I agree, though I have two minor complaints. One is the T logo, which sticks out as much as a Gamestop logo. And two is the blown up logo. I would have preferred if they used one of the beautiful illustrations instead.

Regardless, I'm reserving this sucker. Are supplies really so limited that I should reserve now?

Also, can anyone tell me what song in the OST is playing in this trailer? I really want it.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I was planning to reserve it tommorow anyway, so I should be okay. I do hope they decide to toss in an extra bonus or two, most notably an art book. I bet there are tons of concept sketches and such.

Quote:
Which part of the trailer? The opening fanfare and ending tune are both from the "Opening Movie" track.
I wasn't sure whether the trailer theme was all one song or snippets of each, but the opening is what I liked most. Thanks for clearing that up.

Speaking of the opening, is it true that the opening cutscene lasts for 17 minutes, without any interaction from the player (you)?

I reserved the collector's edition today. The process was easy enough, but the bonus is that I learned that my Gamestop guaranteed me that the game will be ready to pick up on 10/31. According to them, they will be receiving the shipment 2 or 3 days eariler but won't sell it until the 31st.

It makes me happy to hear that they're taking first priority with this game, like they did with GTA:SA. But after thinking it over, it is kind of a drag to receive the game on Halloween. I'm always on a pure horror mood that day, and between the horror marathons and answering doors for trick or treaters, I might not even play FFXII until the day after.

The clerk also tried to convince me to reserve the LE guide, saying that the supplies for the guide are even smaller than for the CE, but I don't usually like purchasing guides. I'll have to see if the bonus content is worth the price.

Any word when those FFXII figures will be available? I'd much rather pick up one of them along with the game.

I was speaking idiomatically.

The fact that practically every LE guide bonus for a Square Enix game has been an artbook leads one to believe....
Are the artbooks worth the price, though? The only LE guide I've seen that seemed to have a comprehensive enough artbook was the one for FFX-2, and those were mostly CG stills.

That's what bugs me about Bradygames' guides, most of the art is just CG renders you could find anywhere. To me, a real artbook is full of concept sketches and rare illustrations. That FFIX book they brought over is exactly what I want to see. And with such a long development time, I'm sure FFXII has tons of concept designs that could take up a whole book.

Christ, I want this game so bad. I'm ready for it now, but I still have to wait for it. I was thinking of playing one of Matsuno's best, but I've already finished FFT and Vagrant Story. Which of the Ogre Battle games do you recommend? I'd especially like a game with a political story like FFXII's.

Also, damn OPM and their FFXII preview. They gave away the surprise of the "tutorial" that opens the game. Bastards.

Quote:
In the upcoming Final Fantasy XII, the earth elemental summon uses an attack called "Rock You", a nod to the song We Will Rock You from the album News of the World. However, Rock You has apparently been changed to "Roxxor" in the localized English version of the game.
What.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

I have issues with streaming content from official sites, so if anyone rips the high quality trailer, please post it here.

Yes, but that trailer wasn't a direct link, but recorded off the TV, so the sound was hard to make out (the video quality suffered a bit too). The trailer in the official site would inarguably be in better quality.

That's actually pretty good; best US FF cover since VIII. But yeah, CE all the way.
You DO all realize that this might very well be the cover for the case INSIDE the CE, right?

Aside from Ashe and Fran's heads, I think it's a pretty cool cover. But again, I really wish Square would make like the FFXI expansion covers and have someone like Amano illustrate a cool boxart. Gives the game a classier look instead of reusing promotional CG.

And Simo, that player did the trick (and the voice acting really shines now that it's direct feed), but is there a way to set the movie to fullscreen?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Goddamit, if it was anyone else but PSM, I would've believed that. Please let it be true. Progressive Scan isn't as desired, since the game will get a definite boost if played on a PS3.

Yahoo!

Quote:
Widescreen TV owners can be partially happy to know that the game now has true 16:9 support. While it's not 480p (much less HD), it at least alleviates the no-win choice between using stretch modes or window-boxed display. And the additional screen real estate opens up the view nicely. Switching between standard and 16:9 views felt like removing blinders, and the 3D engine showed no signs of trouble from the slightly broader field of view.

Yep, and lack of progressive scan is unimportant, since the PS3 will undoubtedly give the game a boost no matter what.

It isn't all wine and roses, though. 1up says the shakespherean acting is overplayed. Full impressions henceforth.

I wouldn't worry, as the dub sounded quite excellent in the trailer.

Don't feel bad, I made a checklist of my own.

1. Finish unfinished FF games (Tactics Advance, Dawn of Souls, FFIV GBA).

2. Brush up on Matsuno's previous games (Vagrant Story, FF Tactics, Tactics Ogre).

3. Prepare a kickass Avatar and Sig.

4. Watch, or request, an FF compilation music video at amv.org.

5. Purchase a Playarts FFXII figure (hopefully will be available by the time the game hits).

Yeah, this is the big one.

Have you seen the logo? It's not something you can squeeze in.

Here's something I've been wondering about; does the game have a cutscene viewer? I was under the impression that it wouldn't, but I was surprised that Xenosaga Episode III had the feature.

It was rumored a couple of weeks ago that there would be an FFXIII DS strategy game, but a FFXII one that plays like FFT seems more reasonable. And inviting.

It has been mentioned before that a game with Basch as the main character was considered, so this might be the culmination of those rumors put together, like DoC was.

I find Penny Arcade's lack of faith disturbing.

Shut up, fanboy. I know the comic was hilarious. But if you bothered to read thier article that accompanied the strip, you'd find out that they're not that confident in the game's battle system.

Of course you won't bother to check for yourself, so I have to just quote the whole thing. Which you won't read anyway.

Quote:
FFXII's Gambit System is, and I am not exaggerating for effect, the mechanism by which you relinquish control of the game.

The Final Fantasy series has been an nearly unbroken string of cinemas for several installments now, and with this new innovation they have managed to wrest even combat - that tawdry, unregulated brothel of player interaction - from our increasingly desperate grip. I am not a "Final Fantasy Hater," though such people exist - indeed, I believe many are currently employed at SquareEnix, where their evil labours on Final Fantasy XII have birthed darkness in a twisted mockery of The Holy Nativity.

A glance at today's comic will give you a taste of a savage and cyber future where the rubbery feeding tubes of SquareEnix - tubes which are at once part esophagus, part tentacle - latch on and then digest the Odin All-Father of gaming deities.

1up suggests in their recent preview that it's hard to know what the fan reaction will be, but one need not resort to nostradaman ambiguities to derive this one. It is going to sell out in every store until the stores get their next shipments, which will then sell out. The lines of merchandise will themselves create lines, except they will be lines of people instead, and their hands will clench on sweaty money. Reviews will rest high, like crowns, at 9.0 and above. No divine punishment will ever be meted out! The giant hammer will hang there, suspended, but not fall. Looking out from my tower - my robe resplendent, chin heavy in my palm - I will think of winter.

Even I - I, who have made myself a fortress against it! - feel that brand's dense core drawing me in. It's even set in Ivalice, which twists the knife. I want to summon spectacular creatures to war with violent root vegetables - or, at least, I am not opposed to their being summoned. I want to navigate convoluted familial bonds and fly in ships designed explicitly for that purpose.

Most of all, I want to do what's right.

And I love being wrong on things like this, so if it's really this amazing thing where you're, like, programming your guys or whatever, you'll tell me about it - it's not like I don't own a PS2. It may be physically difficult to pry out the Guitar Hero disc by this point, but I've been working out, and I think I've got what it takes.

(CW)TB out.
I happen to value PA's comments quite a bit, so when they express worry that the game may be more boring than you thought, then I get a bit worried too.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

FFXII DS Confirmed.

http://gamesarefun.com/news.php?newsid=6860

I'm hoping this is a prequel (which should be, due to the younger look of the characters), because it pisses me off when I learn ahead of time which characters will survive through the end.

Okay, I did a simple translation of the Famitsu scan. Beware there are minor spoilers.

Spoiler:
And I have confirmed that this game happends AFTER FFXII, thus SIMO said, its a "sequel" and thus the spoiler.
And thanks for not being courteous enough to spoiler tag it like Simo.

This is why I hate the delay between JP and NA releases. For a Matsuno game, everyone is expendable. Not anymore.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

PSM's newest issue featured a 14 page (!!!) review of FFXII. They gave it a 9.5.

....for 14 pages I was expecting a 10.

It beats the consolation bonus they gave us after an 8 month delay for Advent Children. Oh wait, we didn't get a bonus, we just lost some extras (Last Order).

How ya doing, buddy?

So Xenosaga Episode III has its violence toned down for NA, due to the fear of getting an M, while FFXII has its violence increased, yet still maintains a T rating.

Worse than that, all blood was removed. Characters who were dramatically impaled or shot are left squeeky clean.

And don't start celebrating until October 1st (30 days left).

Unless my calendar is mistaken, there is no 31st in September. Thus, October 1st=30 days until the 31st.

but don't quote me on that, my math is horrible

Which is what I've said. SOLDIER, why the hell start celebrating October 1st? It'd be the same thing as celebrating now =/.
What I meant to say is that it feels more dramatic waiting until October 1st to celebrate. You know, 30 days being an even number and all that. But anyway...

Quote:
Nah, I'm all for actually getting a real deal copy in my hands come Hallowe'en.
Not me, unfortunately. Halloween is my favorite holiday of the year, and on Halloween day I like to immerse myself in horror marathons and trick or treaters. I'd be much happier if I could get FFXII a week early, and Gamestop mentioned that they would receive copies around that time, but not sell them.

EDIT: EGM's scores are in.

Quote:
Final Fantasy XII 8.5 9 9.5
For a game that has scored a perfect 10 and a ton of praise, this is just awful. I knew EGM's been strict with their scores lately, but giving an 8.5 to a numbered FF title is just depressing.
