Nyuk, Nyuk.

The bit with this image was funny though.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone actually came to her with a question like that. We're a pitiful fanbase.

I see a Rikku cosplayer in the background. Like tossing meat to a pack of rabid wolves, I say.

In addition to that, it seems like you have the same problem as the other person I chatted with about this: the fanboys. The ones that scream the movie's praises and absolutely refuse to recognise its flaws or tolerate any criticism.
Yeah, those guys can suck, but the other kind of fanboys are just as bad: the purists who demand that Square doesn't tread on sacred ground with sequels and focus purely on creating new games (and who, ironically, demand a new Chrono game, which would techincally be a sequel).

Neither side is very appealing. I really am saddened at my "fellow" fans. Am I sounding smug? Maybe, but....

At least I know how to bathe. Seriously, what is on this guy's face?

Double Post:

"You fanboys stay the hell away from my sist-uh, girlfriend, before I shoot you with my Nerf-I mean handcannon!"

I like how he couldn't find an all black shirt.

Quote:
The Voice Acting

Cloud by Steve Burton: just as predicted, is great as Cloud once again. He matches the voice very well, the only bad thing is that they changed a few lines that were unnecessary and sounded worse.

Rachel Leigh Cook as Tifa: seriously the best voice overall in my opinion. I was shocked that her voice matched Tifa's personality and what you would imagine her voice being to a T. She was amazing. The only really stupid thing, was that for anyone who saw the JP version wondering what they were gonna do with "Zu zu zu, zu zu zu." They changed the words to "Dilly Dally, Shilly Shally. Dilly Dally, Shilly Shally." I shook my head in disappointment when I saw that.

Mena Suvari as Aeris: anyone whose played KH2 knows that she sucked big time as Aeris and didn't really match anything like the JP version or what we would hope to hear. For AC, it is similar but still a lot better. Her voice still doesn't match, but the tone of voice she uses for her dialogue helps out a lot, and makes it seem more like we would like.

Vincent: personally I didn't like it at all. I thought he sounded like he should've been cast for Rude. His voice is not just deep like the JP version, it is overly masculine, and reminds me of Rude and Barrett's voice. The JP version was perfect but they couldn't mimic that. His voice sounds like the Trailer Narrator but even more.

Barrett: his voice was great. He did kinda like Mr. T without being overly loud and obnoxious. The terminology was changed for him and sounds great, matching the character very well.

Reno: His voice is quite different than JP, but both are equally good. The main thing you'll notice is that they dropped the "...yo" at the end of every sentence. I'm glad they did that, because who really says yo after every sentence.

Rude: just as you'd imagine him. Well Done, very monotone, with a deep voice.

Yuffie: just like KH2 and DoC she's perfect for her as well. Her voice is flamboyant, optimistic and cheery like it should be.

Cid: I personally didn't like it at all, nor did I in KH2. Its the same, and he sounds like a Texas Oil Tycoon with a Ten Gallon hat. I don't know where they got the impression he's a redneck.

Cait Sith: almost same as JP. Doesn't have many lines, nothing to complain about nor really praise.

Red XIII: He really only has one good line near the end of the film, but his voice is good. I don't know what to expect for him, so I didn't really know what to critique him on.

Sephiroth: I personally didn't like it. People are gonna crucify me for this, but I thought he sounded too much like a good guy's voice.

Kadaj: great. his voice was spot on but didn't sound like a little girl like the JP version. His voice was better in the US version than the JP version.

Loz: Good. His voice was good and his tone of voice matched with the JP version and the situation but I was hoping his voice would be deeper like the JP version.

Yazoo: Good as well. Matches nearly everything the JP's did. Equally good.

WCP: His voice, Wally Wingert, was great. He had everything down pact, and his voice is also one of the best for the character. His tone matches the dialogue well.

The dialogue for the movie had changed a little of course to meet the American terminology. This made the VA better and the story better. However, there were a couple times where they could have lef the dialogue exactly the same and it would have been better, but these are minute and small lines.

Even though, I highly liked a lot of the English VA's for the film there were a few problems with them. Obviously, the English lip synch was not redone, and every now and then, its obvious. They did a good job covering most of it up with news lines but sometimes its kinda bad.

Another thing I thought was the VA would be really well, and then all of a sudden the VA's tone of voice would be way off from what they're talking about.

This is about the only complaints I had from the movie all together.

All in all, the English version is better because you can enjoy it more, and some of the VA is better than the JP. However, some of the JP VA is better so it's kind of a trade off, and you'll have to decide which one you like better.
Keep in mind that opinions always differ. Just because he didn't like Vincent's voice doesn't mean other people will (come on, it's Blum). I really wish I could hear Sephiroth for myself, but I'm nowhere near him in KH2. I think overall I won't have a problem with any of the VA's, not even Suvari.

It really is ironic that Tifa has the overall favorite voice, considering how I kept worrying if they would find someone good, when I couldn't think of any good candidates myself. It's a very tricky role to fill if you're unfamiliar with the game, considering AC Tifa is different from FFVII Tifa, on account of what she experienced. Same goes for Cloud.

Quote:
Rachel Leigh Cook pretty much thanked us and said "I am a FF fan tonight." Okay?
Hopefully she'll steer clear of the internet.

Cook: "Tifa is so cool, I'm going to put her in my desktop. Let's see what I can get from Google Images and OH MY GOD!"

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Oh.

I'm pretty sure all the background text is in english anyway, so probably not.

Quick question: What's the name of the song that plays during the official japanese flash site? The slow choir song?

Final Fantasy VII needs a remake.

I'm more certain of this than ever before. You'll know what I'm talking about when you reach that point in KH2.

So I got to hear a couple more voices now.

Tifa: There's really not much to say. Cook is every bit as good as everyone says. However, it should be noted that the Tifa in KH2 has a lot more in common with FFVII Tifa than AC Tifa. She's a lot more outgoing and cheerful here, as well as shockingly blunt ("Let me take a look around" *smash* *kick* *bash*). But she had a few dramatic scenes to prove she can handle the job as well. But it's the movie where I'll be able to make a final judgment.

Sephiroth: Oh yeah, I finally got to hear Newborn in action. I'm going to go ahead and tell you that you'll have to hear him speak a few times to let it sink in. I'm sure we all have an ideal way for Sephiroth to sound, so like Cid, you'll have to adjust to the "definitive" voice Square has given him.

That's not to say that he's bad, because he isn't. In fact, a couple more hearings and I'll probably say that he's excellent. I just personally always wanted Sephiroth to have a deeper voice, with more bass, just like what Billy Zane did with Ansem. Instead, Seph sounds more like Inuyasha's Sesshomaru, soft and arrogant.

But it works though, especially when he addresses Cloud.

Oh, and I'm fully convinced that Burton is the definitive voice for Cloud. I seriously couldn't wait to hear him scream out "SEPHIROTH!!!"

That first image would've been absolute perfection if a certain person's bustline wasn't horribly exaggerated...again.

I think I know that artist. Pretty sure he does hentai as well.

It's especially noticable if you've been playing Kingdom Hearts II.

If that really was a wallscroll, though, I'd get it. I don't think it's possible to fit an image that large on a single wallscroll though.

I know it's probably the result of the artist's style, but to me it feels like he's just trying to use her original design in her AC clothes. Everyone else resembles their more realistic makeovers, but it does look like he's still trying to toss in some faservice. Basically, it's something Tifa doesn't need, especially after the legions of horrendously disfigured fan-art out there.

That is some excellent art, regardless. If there's more, please share it.

IGN has video interviews with some of the english cast. I'm not looking for fear of any possible spoilers, or most likely these will be the same interviews found in that bonus third disc (when is that being distributed anyway?).

Regarding Tifa's assets, I don't think the size is the problem, it's more like the emphasis on the shape and curves which doesn't fit what she's wearing. Just my thoughts.
You nailed it; that's the real problem I have with the drawing. With that kind of outfit, her chest shouldn't stick out the way it does.

I was told while playing FFXI today that the recent issue of Game Informer posted a rumor about the FFVII remake, saying that it's well underway (think he said that it mentioned an E3 showing), and that it's going to utilize the FFXII battle system.

I'm not sure how credible GI is, but this is one of the remake rumors I'm not willing to believe. I don't see FFXII's MMORPG style working too well with the context of FFVII. I think Nomura will want a battle system where he can utilize more flash to it. I hope both the remake and FFXII have a more fast paced battle system though. I can't really imagine AC-quality models standing stupidly still while waiting for their turn during battle.

EDIT:

I need your input; I'm considering making a seperate thread to discuss the very-real possibility of an FFVII remake. With all this talk about either FFXII or FFVII being shown in E3 (and possibly utilizing the FFXII battle system, or something similar), I think the chances are very good that one game or the other (or maybe both, but not likely) will be unveiled soon.

Even if that wasn't the case, I still want to talk about what everyone would like to see in an FFVII remake. Should I make a seperate thread to talk about this, or keep any remake discussions in this thread (which techincally is getting off-topic)?

I'm not looking at a single clip before the release. I'm still attempting to expunge all the images and clips I've seen so the overall movie will still feel somewhat new to me.

Quote:
Cid is suppose to sound like a hick, cause in the Japan version he had a country Osaka accent.
Interesting. I didn't know Cid was supposed to be a southerner. I always figured Yuffie to be the Osakan in the group. Knowing this helps me accept the new accent more.

What's the word on that third bonus disc? Has Gamestop started distributing it yet?

I'm pretty sure it was either too expensive to resync all the lips, or they didn't want to shell out two versions of the same movie (one with japanese and lip synch, one with english and lip synch).

I hope the languages text is meant to read "english AND japanese 5.1", because it sort of looks like only the japanese has 5.1. Of course it goes without saying the english track will have 5.1 also, I'm just saying it could be read that way.

Aside from that, there isn't much else to say. The back cover came out pretty much how I imagined it. The whole thing feels like something that should've been ready 6 months ago.

Quote:
Ok, from the back cover, its obvious that the 2nd disk is the same as the advent pieces Special DVD.
Is it really? Aside from Last Order, are we missing any other extras? I don't see the commentary track listed at all, and that was one of the few commentaries I was looking forward to hear. I read it's quite informative, discussing both the movie and the game.

If it turns out the commentary isn't in this release, is there a site anywhere that has a translation?

I think aside for Last Order and the commentary, it looks ok, I'm not sure if the USA DVD has the FF7 Reminisque featurette though, it consists of some Live actions shots and we hear Clouds phone calls and messages as he travels through the fields, after each call or message from a different character, we see scenes from the Orignal FF7 game set to Tifa's piano theme, One Winged Angel, and Aeris theme Orchestral.
That would be the Reminiscence of FFVII extra found in Disc 1. It's also the one extra I am very much looking forward to. I would love to hear the characters' input on certain key moments from the game, plus I read that it helps flesh out characters like Cloud more, especially his feelings toward Tifa.

There's always the slim chance that the NA version will get an exclusive trailer that doubles as a confirmation of the next project (remake, sequel or otherwise). That would be a pretty nice consolation prize, but I won't get my hopes up.

Anyway, maybe that bonus disc from pre-ordering will include some of the stuff mentioned during the commentary.
What stuff? Also, I doubt it, since it feels more like some tacked-on mainstream disc to show that the movie is using real actors, and promoting some of Sony's other crap.

Scans of the Ultimania is nice, but I'd prefer a full translation. I've read a few snippets from ac.net, and that book is a goldmine of conceptual info (Tifa with a scar in her back? Cloud as a samurai? Vincent as a letcher? More of Red's species, each named after a color? Neato).

I remember someone (lurker I think) linking to a forum that was dedicated to translating the book in parts. Anyone have that link?

Even though I'm not watching any of those clips, I'm going to assume that it's the same case as the online videos for Xenosaga in that the rips don't reflect on the overall sound quality. Online video previews tend to sound much worse than the actual product, so I don't think you should be quick to judge the voices from a few potentially spotty online clips.

In any case, IGN was very favorable with the dub, so I'm not worried.

Yes. I've seen it twice in Adult Swim and Comedy Central. Well, I haven't actually seen the whole thing, I turn around and see the last 5 seconds or so. It's a bunch of really fast, action packed scenes with OWA playing.

Doesn't matter. Any form of advertising they attempt is just a formality anyway.

Square Enix Legal Action Over Illegal Uploading
Square Enix released an PDF today, talking about the regulation of illegal uploading of Advent Children online. With the release of the English version of Advent Children in the UK (24th April) and the US (25th April), S-E will be tightening regulation of infringement of their intellectual properties, such as illegal copying of their games, music, videos, images, and so on.

In October of last year, a complete video file of the Japanese version of Advent Children was uploaded onto Google Video. After getting the file removed from the site, S-E continued their investigation and identified the person responsible. The infringer eventually admitted to it, and as well as issuing an apology agreed to pay the compensation, so on 17th April they reached a settlement.
Wait....NOW they decide to do something about it? Now, after 6 months later?

Please change you management, Square.

Wait until you actually see the movie before you cast judgment on the dub. Based on what I heard from KH2, I'm confident in the voice acting. Even Suvari isn't so bad after some later lines.

Anyway, it seems Best Buy and Circuit City are receiving the movie this Tuesday, a day before Gamestop. I'm considering purchasing the movie in one of those stores while cancelling my reservation at Gamestop. Not only would I get the movie earlier, but at least ten dollars cheaper too. The problem is I wouldn't be getting the exclusive third disc Gamestop offers.

So my question is if that bonus disc is even worth it. If all it contains is short interviews with the main actors, not saying anything we haven't already heard from the LA screening or anywhere else, then it certainly isn't worth the extra day and cash.

And neither can Best Buy, lest they get in deep shit.
So are you saying Gamestop will ship the movie on Tuesday and not Wednesday?

If that's so, is the price still the same? I'm still not sure if it's worth forking over 10$ just for a short third disc.

Piff, just pull the old buy and return move on them. It's not like they're gonna ask you to return the pre-order bonus.
For my store, they might. They mentioned before how they were enforcing a stricter policy regarding pre-order bonuses, refusing to hand them over until the customer purchases the game. I believe they also mentioned once that if you wanted to return a game, you had to bring back the pre-order bonus as well.

Also, I'm pretty sure they don't accept returns on movies, unopened or not. I'm just going to check with my Gamestop first tommorow. If they have it, I'll just buy it from them. If not, I'll stop by Best Buy on the way back from College and cancel my GS reserve.

Either way, it looks like the movie is finally on its way tommorow. With that, it's about time I ranted a bit. In my journal.

If you do read that rant, here's the short counter-argument; despite the repeated delays, I'm still excited for this movie. Even if Square failed in the american execution, the concept was still one of their greatest ideas, accomplishing three things I've always wanted to see them do. A continuation of FFVII, A true sequel to an FF game (that was taken seriously, unlike FFX-2), and another attempt at the film industry. People can debate it until they turn blue in the face, but I stand by what I said many times before; FFVII needed a continuation. The ending was one of the most unsatisfying I have ever seen for a story of its caliber. It didn't matter to me whether it was a new game, movie, or even novel (Case of Tifa would've sufficed on its own. Go read it), it just had to happen.

Spoiler:
"Mouth agape" would be the proper description. I feel drained, if anything else. I enjoyed it, no question, but after 8 months of waiting, I feel sort of empty. Anyone who called this a proper resolution to FFVII is wrong. If anything, it felt like an extended trailer for the compilation. Rufus and the Turks are still around, Sephiroth pretty much hinted that he'll come back again. And then there's all the questions I have; why did Kadaj have all the kids gather at the lake where Aerith died, and why did drinking the water corrupt them? Does the ring on Tifa's finger mean her and Cloud are married?

I guess if I had to summarize it in words, it would be "more please".

Elena wasn't pissed enough at Cloud for thinking he "offed her boss".

Speaking of translations, while I scoff at the laziness of Sony not dubbing the Reminiscence of FFVII feature (I know it's only 5 or so lines, but still), it was pretty neat looking at a proper translation of the original game's dialogue, especially the rhyme Aerith had regarding the Cetra.
