I think they can get away with that price just fine as long as they emphasize the value of their system in a snazzy box. Just imagine some slick looking box with "PLAYS BLU-RAY MOVIES!" written across it.

Plus, perhaps like the PSP, they'll add a few more bells and whistles, like an HDMI cable, or a playable demo of MGS4.

Oh yeah, an MGS4 demo would definetley boost sales. I won't get into a debate if an FFVII-remake demo would sell more, since it's still unconfirmed....for now.

Here's an interesting question; is anyone planning to sell their PS2 system in order to get a little cash toward the PS3? I tried to sell my PS1 back when PS2 hit, but I got some crap excuse that the laser lens was too used up to be sellable.

I'm not selling my PS2 for one very simple reason; HD Loader. Until someone creates the HD Loader equivalent for PS3 (might be impossible, or might be simple as hell), I'm sticking with my system.

The Gamecube though, I see no reason of keeping, since Revolution can play all the GC games.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

But a PC is not. So basically, the PS3 is also a makeshift PC. Perhaps.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

That better not be true of the PS3, I don't want to pay X amount of money for a so called 'blu-ray player' if its gonna have shitty play back.
I don't know why everyone is so certain the Blu Ray player in the PS3 is going to suck. It has an HDMI output, so it's a given that the picture quality would be about the same. Oh, so I can't zoom in 5 times or have super slow motion. Big deal. Not worth shelling out the extra cash if the movies will look the same when played.

Well, whatever. Just because some developer from a no-name company is tossing guesses around doesn't mean it'll actually happen. The PS3 will be delayed when Sony confirms it. I'm waiting until E3 before making any solid conclusions.

Quote:
The latest issue of Playstation Magazine has revealed more details on the upcoming PS3, including the current hot topic, the price. Contrary to the opinion of other news organisations, PSM has named the PS3 has having quite a low price: $399 in the U.S., €322 in Europe and ¥45,965 in Japan. My hopes of Sony announcing a price at E3 are still there, despite some claims that Sony will not announce a price at the expo.

Although not new information, the magazine also claims that the PS3's 60GB non-removable hard drive will come as standard. And for those who care about backward compatibility (I know I do), PSM also revealed that PSX/PS1 and PS2 games will run on the PlayStation 3 in 720, 1080i and 1080p. The magazine also confirmed that all PS3 games will be in the Blu-ray format, and will have no region lockouts. Finally, PSM also mentioned that the launch line-up and final design of the PS3's controller will be released at the E3 gaming expo in May.

QJ.net will be sending a team to E3 to bring you the latest news, first. Stay tuned to QJ.net throughout the E3 expo in May.
I really hope this proves true. $400 I can do. Anything higher would be too much. I still prefer $350 as the maximum, but I guess we should be fortunate it'll be equal in price to the 360.

PS3 confirmed to be playable in E3.

Quote:
If you think have been dreaming that Sony will simply have a booth in E3 with their PS3s locked in glass cases, well, wake up kid. That's not going to happen.

Thanks to Insomniac Games' announcement, we can sleep peacefully knowing that we could preview games in this highly anticipated console in E3! Insomniac Games' Resistance: Fall of Man, a first person shooter game developed for the PS3, can be played in the Sony booth in E3. The lines will definitely be long, but the PS3 experience might just make you forget about having skipped lunch just to get in line.

So far, we have only heard that Resistance will be played in the Sony booth. Hopefully, they have other PS3 games for us to try. With announcements for Metal Gear Solid 4 as well as other highly anticipated games for the PS3, we hopefully could at least see if this new console is worth every penny in our wallets.

I don't believe for a second that you're actually impressed, but it's true that while good, it doesn't quite look like the trailer they released during the PS3's unveiling. Still, the final judgment will be in the direct feed trailers coming next week. I just hope they don't try to oversexualize the main character. Female characters that can be taken seriously are becoming a dying breed.

I'm pretty sure an american developer is making this, not Japan. Also, it's not like they had jeans or anything during whatever era this takes place in.

It's not the attire that bugs me, it's if they throw in a dozen pantyshots and endlessly bouncing breasts.

What you fail to realize, Mr. Nintendo Faithful, is that if Sony did implement this feature to their controller, it would be merely an addition and not a required part of their overall strategy. Nintendo is basing their entire system to the motion controller. If this rumor was true, I believe it's basically Sony saying "look, we can do it too. Ain't no thang."

Now if they market this feature in a way that basically says PS3 has both a motion sensing controller AND the best graphics by far, well....let's just say that wouldn't be good for Nintendo's side.

I was speaking idiomatically.

It's a bit premature to assume that Sony will be half-assed with motion sensoring, isn't it? They didn't half-ass controller vibration, did they? They didn't half-ass analog control, did they?

For the record, I'm keeping an open and equal mind for both Sony and Nintendo until this E3 finishes. I'm going to wait and make my decisions after I see both systems in action.

Is it safe to assume all news from the Sony Conference will go in this thread? I can't wait to see what they'll reveal. This week is going to be quite exciting.

Gamespot had live coverage when the PS3 was first unveiled, so I expect them to have it for this. I'm sure ps3qj.net will have it as well.

What time does the Sony conference start again (EST)? I'm going to the movies and dinner later, so I'll probably miss the debut. I hope everyone submits all available links and news in this thread, so I can check it out first thing.

This is just depressing. I'm honestly not sure if I'll be purchasing a PS3 on launch day with that price. I guess it depends on the launch games, but the possibility of MGS4 making launch has now been dismissed.

So is there really no way to save your games if you go with the $500 system? And Sony said they wouldn't pull this 2 system crap.

I was speaking idiomatically.

In your opinion, what do you think the odds are that they'll reconsider and lower that price before launch? November is still far away, so it's possible.

The sad truth is that if you plan to wait out for the price to drop, it won't be for a long while, and certainly not before MGS4.

Hmm, Magic Box lists the official price as $50 cheaper.

Quote:
* PlayStation 3 w/ 20GB HDD - US$499 / CND$549 / 59800 yen / 499 euros
* PlayStation 3 w/ 60GB HDD - US$549 / CND$659 / open price in Japan / 599 euros
It's not a major difference, but it still helps (you could use the extra $50 for a game).

Does anyone know a site other than gametrailers that has downloadable trailers for everything E-3 related? Because that site hasn't let me download anything all day and it's gotten rather tiring.

I just read an artcile about HDCP compliance in DVD/Blu Ray players. Did they mention yet whether the PS3 will have HDCP compliance? If it does, and my HDTV doesn't, then I'll get screwed out of the full resolution.

I also read that if your HDTV has an HDMI input, your TV is automatically HDCP certified, so it looks like I'm in the clear. Of course, HDMI is also the sole reason why I'll be forking an extra $100 for the $600 system, but that's the price I pay for true hi-def.
