Basically it sounds like the system automatically sets HDTVs to 1080i instead of 720p (it's debatable which is technically the best). As a result people are bitching up a storm.

Of course, the simplest method would be to simply uncheck 1080i in the display settings, but I think people prefer bitching about it online instead. I haven't had this problem with my new monitor, as the info still reads it as 720p.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Dark Resurrection to light up your PS3
Posted Dec 06, 2006 at 07:22AM by Mabie A. Listed in: News, Games Tags: Famitsu, Japan, Sony, Namco Bandai, PlayStation Network
coming to PS NetworkOkay, before all other speculations fly regarding Namco Bandai's Tekken 6 for the PS3, listen up, 'cause this one here's more imminent. Says Japan's Famitsu Weekly, Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection will be heading to the PlayStation Network's download service. Soon. Very soon.

Now, making it's way to your PS3 from your PSP, this version will be featuring full 1080p visuals, as well as the playable debut of Jinpachi. This boss character wasn't playable in the arcade version. Well, not anymore. Apart from that, the various modes in the arcade game will also get some makeover for the PS3, including arcade battle, ghost battle, and gallery.
-QJ.Net

That's actually pretty awesome. Could this be a new trend of downloading PS2/PSP games with 1080p support?

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Tommorow the PSN Store is expected to update with Go Sudoku 2 (pass) Lemmings 2 (maybe) and a Genji 2 demo (definate). I'm just wondering when that Tekken: Dark Resurrection game will be available (they said "very soon").

Funny how with the announcement of this game being ported to PS3, we're also getting ports of Prince of Persia (not sure which one) and Mortal Kombat Armageddon for Wii. I forsee a new trend coming (do you go for ports with visual upgrades or play style upgrades?).

In what may be an error on Sony's part, Lemmings is currently $2.99. Grab it now before they correct it..

The Genji 2 demo was a big disappointment. The scenery and characters look wonderful standing still, but there's a ton of slowdown, choppiness, and a seriously gimped Benkei (1 attack hits!?). This could have been big if they spent more time on it.

Well I thought the original price was $5.99. GAF is reporting it as an error. It's definetely worth the money though, based on the demo.

Damn the people who already set insane time records in Lemmings. I've tried to redo the floater level over and over but I can only finish in about 18 seconds (top scorers finish in 17).

So has anyone tried using their PS3 controller on a PC yet?

http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=45209

I'm curious to find out if it really works as a standard USB controller that games actually recognize or if the few posters who couldn't get it to work weren't just butterfingers after all.
The only thing I've tried is hooking up the controller to my PC in order to recharge it. But I'll probably give this a shot, even though I already use an adaptor for my PS2 controller. A USB hookup would probably be a little less cumbersome, though it would be great if it could work wirelessly.

Also, I ended up enjoying Lemmings more than I thought. My first (and until now, only) experience was the SNES game, which I only rented but certainly enjoyed. I read about different variations in the sequels (some that worked, some that didn't), but I'm glad the PS3 version keeps the core gameplay of the SNES game. It's also very clean and colorful for a mini-game, and I like the option of being able to zoom in and fast forward.

The fact that the Lemmings are cuter makes it all the more tragic when they explode, drown, or splatter from a great height.

Also, does anyone know a site or forum that regularly updates on the features of PS3 Linux? I burned the Linux into a DVD, but I haven't bothered to use it since my new LCD lets me hook up my PC to it, thus eliminating my primary interest with YDL (the emulators). I did read news about someone managing to upconvert PS1/PS2 games, so I'm waiting for an update on that.

Yes. Unfortunately it's a lousy transfer as far as Blu Ray is concerned. For a look at what the format is capable of, watch Corpse Bride, Monster House or Ice Age 2.

Just wanted to share a very fun multiplayer option in Resistence.

Create a game with the following parameters:

Sniper Rifle only

Hedgehog Grenade

Infinite Ammo

One Hit Kills

At least up to 20 players

A setting with high areas (like the Rooftops)

Experience true tension. I had a ton of fun the other night (dodge a sniper shot, dash up to the guy and pow, melee hit).

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Question for you HDTV owners (LCD, mostly). Do you experience some minor banding while playing Resistance (transparent horizontal lines that appear while you move the camera; mostly shows up in grayish areas like indoor buildings or the sky above)? I've experienced banding in that and the NBA 07 demo, but nothing noticable in Genji 2 or Lemmings.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Has anyone played Fight Night Round 3? I dismissed it early on because I read that one reviewer complained about additional slowdown. Yet the latest EGM said the port was "perfect", along with some minor visual improvements. What's the official word?

Well for someone who doesn't own the original (or the system it was on), is it worth getting? Does it have online play? I was mostly interested in it for a visual showpiece (720p or 1080p?).

It's ironic, and quite annoying, that the Wii is impossible to find in my area, yet every clerk I've talked to seems required to add "oh but we got the PS3's in stock." I acquired the PS3 first because I was certain it would be harder to find. I don't regret buying it before Wii, but it doesn't satisfy my Zelda craving.

Gripshift is available for purchase now, but I was a bit underwhelmed by the demo. Maybe I'm just not in the mood for racers, but I'd rather wait it out for Flow (hopefully out by next week) and Tekken 5.

I'm also hoping for more notable Blu Ray releases. I rented Black Hawk Down, which looked fantastic in 1080p. I hear The Descent is a great transfer too, but it wasn't available for rent.

I wanted to install Linux merely so I could play PC emulators on my TV, but since I recently upgraded to a 1080p LCD with a DVI port to display my PC, I no longer have any real reason to use Linux. At least not until the hackers figure out how to make it so you can play PS1 and PS2 games on Linux with a resolution boost (someone was working on this a while back).

Jam it back in, in the dark.

But what happens to the original soundtrack? It kind of sounds like all this does is play your custom music over the game's original BGM, which is completely lame. And even if you can turn off the game's music, what happens when the song finishes? Or is there a way to generate a playlist?

This just in, PS3 Firmware 1.5 is now available for download, and it's confirmed to fix the BC issues with PS1 and PS2 games. I haven't tried it myself, but people are reporting the games look "perfect" now. I have no idea if they look "better", but I'll get back to you on that.

EDIT: Okay, I gave FFXI a quick spin, and it definetely looks as good as it does on PS2. The opening FMV is no longer embarrasingly compressed, and the textures are as clean as they were on the previous console. Even better, it's no longer required to change the PS3's resolution any lower than the max your TV can do (1080p in my case), as it will automatically change to 480p once you start the game.

Does it look any better? Hard to say. I suppose the textures look a tiny bit cleaner, but that may have more to do with the fact that it's on HDMI rather than any upgrading from the PS3. However, this is certainly good news as it fixes one of the system's major problems. It also opens the door for improved textures on BC games. That March update is looking more and more promising.

If that Sony/Namco partnership means a revival of Xenosaga for the PS3, then I will be.....

.....cautiously intrigued.

Oblivion is out in February, right? Port or not, this will be the first notable PS3 release after Resistance, won't it? There's also Virtua Fighter 5, but I'm not quite as excited for that one as other diehard fans. The lack of an online mode (purposely left out by the director) hurts.

A bit back, I had split the partitions on my 20gb drive in half, as was required to install Linux on the PS3. But, since at the moment I no longer have interest in installing Linux, I was wondering if there was a way to get those 10gb back without formatting the drive, and losing all the downloaded games and videos I have (it would be a pain to redownload them all). I want to free up the 10gb so I can install FFXI on the PS3.

Not that I know of. I tried hooking mine up, but it didn't register. I think people are on the verge of finding a way to crack this, and I hope they do it soon; SATA hard drives are much cheaper than the ones for laptops.

VF5 has been getting rave reviews, but I'm still not sure if I'll be buying it day one or not. Like I mentioned before, I wasn't very good in VF4, and the lack of a story mode really turned me off. Not sure if I should save my dough for March, which is going to be jam packed with quality titles.

Oh, and OPM UK confirmed that Bioshock is coming for the PS3. It was always hinted, but never actually confirmed, so this is certainly good news. I've been very interested in this game since the IGN trailer.

You guys should take the time to make a JP account, because their PSN store has some cool stuff that ours do not. Trailers for Virtua Fighter 5, Gundam Musou, and even an anime 1080p trailer. There's also some wacky games to download if you want to spend the yen.
