I read all the books in anticipation of the movie, because it looked so beautiful in trailers. Plus the books were recommended to me anyway.
A lot of relatives and friends were telling me I couldn't watch the movies because it was about killing God. Hi, I read the books. While it could be taken that way, it's more of a humanization of God than anything else, which doesn't really bother me like it does some people. Besides which, even with the religious slant, it's more a commentary on authoritarian organizations and governments than anything else. And the movie took out any mention of the Magisterium as a religious organization. It's simply authoritarianism.
The movie didn't meet my expectations, sadly. It didn't move well, and I think people unfamiliar with the source material would be at a bit of a loss. With its low gross, it's unlikely we'll be seeing the second and third books, which is a shame. The casting was positively brilliant. Couldn't have made better choices, I don't think. It had so much potential.
Jam it back in, in the dark.
