SH1 is a lot more gory and gloomy than SH2... the Zhaoyang village scene, Li Li's scene, the orphanage scene, the Doll house, the bathroom scene, etc. The towns and cities from SH1 in general are a lot more depressing than those in SH2, and that really builds up the atmosphere for a successful story. I suppose that's why people praise SH1 for being more dark than SH2.
