This seems irrelevent, because China never magically took on 1 billion extra people.
As for the video, it was kind of disturbing to watch. I had a feeling the kid was trying to prove a point to the police and not fully cooperating, but not to the point where a taser was anywhere near necessary.
It reminds me of what I saw around here when Michigan State's basketball team lost in March of 2005. After the game, a lot of students were leaving to head home, and police were already lining the streets. They shot off tear gas into crowds to prevent riots from starting, which effectively huddled students into bigger crowds, where more teargas was dispensed. Police then yelled for people to go home while filling paths home with teargas.
