Almost everyone I know does it, and it annoys the hell out of me. And a lot of them try and get me to sing along too, which doesn't work for several reasons. First, I want to hear the music, not myself. Second, I'm an awful singer, and I know it, and they don't want to hear me. Third, I can't understand 99% of lyrics as it is, so I wouldn't know what the hell to sing along with.
I took my girlfriend to a Colplay concert a few months back because she likes them. For some reason, during every song, half the crowd felt the need to sing along, drowning out Chris Martin's voice. Why the hell would people pay $30 (or whatever tickets were) if they're not gonna listen to the band they're paying to hear? I certainly didn't pay to hear a bunch of tone deaf people shouting as loud as they could. If I'm paying to hear someone, I'd want to hear them.
