The two main Lunar games are two of my all time favorite games. The first Lunar on the Sega CD was my first RPG and because of it I bought every WD game released for the system (Vay, Popful Mail, EB). EB is tied for my favorite game of all time. I loved the Sega CD versions, and I loved the remakes for nostalgia reasons.
Heck, I originally painted my dorm room in a Lunar 2 motif:

Lunar door
Lunar wall

As a challenge, I even went through the entire game of L:SS in one day/sitting.

So yes I loved these games!

But...

I also realize I love them for nostalgia reasons. They remind me of the good times I had as a youth and were essentially my introduction to RPGs. I see that they can be called cliche, although I believe they were the originators of the cliche since every game that resembles them was released later (what pre-1994 RPGs were like this?). And alot of the features introduced in the series are now commonplace in console RPGs (anime/CG cutscenes, voice acting, "pop" song themes, epilogues), but back then I remember them being completely mindblowing and unlike anything I had ever seen. If a game like Lunar came out now it probably wouldn't be impressive. Grandia 2 proves this for me, it was very similar and yet to me is was pretty ho-hum.

A part of me wishes for a Lunar 3 just so I can remember the games of my youth. But then a part of me doesn't want a Lunar 3 because it could disappoint me, much like the fans who grew up on the original Star Wars are disappointed by the prequels.

BTW: a great challenge in L:EB (both ver.) is to kill the green shiros in the ice area, they pretty much level you up for each kill. That made the last boss so much easier. Also, I think the bosses' levels were based on the main characters levels, so if you make the main character run away and level everyone else up 10+ levels the bosees get easier. That may be the Sega CD versions though...

Jam it back in, in the dark.
