Was going to go ahead and toss my lot with Starcraft, but instead I'm going to go with Command and Conquer Tiberium Dawn. While starcraft is arguably the better game but to me the old C&C had it at the point where everything felt right. You didn't have to worry excessively about resource gathering yet by no means was it a totally hands free process. The combat in that game just felt very straight forward, anyone could get it. Compared to today's RTS' its like comparing a tactical room breach to a casual snowball fight. You didn't have to worry about complex relationships between units such as auras or special abilities. You just horded a large group of tanks and whatnot and rolled the other guy's base. Now of course some people find that distasteful, but I think its what made the C&C games so fun, and I can only hope they didn't screw things up with C&C3.
Jam it back in, in the dark. |
