Is this limited to physical descriptions? If so, "pretty" people are those who look pleasing to the eyes, attractive and beautiful in a way that a man and a woman can appreciate his/her beauty in a non-malicious manner. "Hot", to my understanding, are people who tend to ooze in sex appeal, usually the ones who give an erotic "feel" the moment you lay your eyes on them.
It's like reading a fashion magazine and a porn mag, the difference is clearly there.
