I haven't posted Van Tomiko related stuff for a VERY LONG LONG TIME (to think that I am/was a big fan of her). So just to contribute to the thread, I'm posting her latest PV (maybe some of you have it already).

Van Tomiko - Yumeji

I haven't watched it myself. Like I mentioned earlier, my interest on Jpop have been slipping slowly. I'll probably download it tomorrow.

Tsk Van, I hope you release GOOD NEW material soon, eh.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Rejoice, for I have rekindled my passion for songs uttered in Japanese words and tunes! For the night that passed, I have listened to melodies by the trio of Core of Soul and the soulfull voice of Misia. Apparently I have lost interest in anything too pop/sugary (no offense guys ), but the ballads are tickling my ears, heart, and... pants?

/me listens to some Miki Imai now

lia, aside from Tokyo Jihen, if you want rock/alt tunes, you can try The Brilliant Green (although they haven't released anything new in ages), Anna Tsuchiya (I adore), ZONE, Judy & Mary (old but good), High & Mighty Color, fra-foa (although they can be slow and boring), Tommy heavenly6, Sayaka, Nanase Aikawa, Miz, and I think I should stop there.

I ran out of names/bands to say. -_-

Curse you declining disk space, curse you to digital hell!

Koda Kumi eh? Never really liked her stuff.

Anyway, I downloaded the new Mika Nakashima album "The End". Well, I loved all of Nakashima's previous albums, but there's something about this one that I don't really like. I mean, not that they're bad songs, but all the songs in this album are in alt-rock, and I dunno, I kinda prefer her type of voice for ballads (the nasal/soft kind of voice).

Maybe it's just me, but I kinda prefer her "Sakurairo Maukoro" type of songs.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

After a few months of J-pop hiatus, I listened to Do As Infinity's "Do the A-side" album today. Why can't there be bands like this anymore (this and The Brilliant Green ). Maybe there are new bands like them, I just haven't checked yet. heh.

Ah fucker.. now I'm listening to Tokyo Jihen and Shiina Ringo's stuff again. I haven't listened to jpop for such a long time that it actually sounds so good this time.. -_- Listening to Shiina's latest album "Heisei Fuzoku", which I should say is a lot different from her Tokyo Jihen stuff, this album reminds me of parts from "Karuki Zamen Kuri No Hana". Argh, curse you OP! Now I'm pretty curious about Namie Amuro's new album.

(I think this means I'll be rebuilding my jpop folder from scratch...)

Hey guys, I've been out of the Japanese music scene for quite some time now, and I kind of require some help getting new bands to listen to. For starters, I like rock groups with female vocalists (tokyo jihen, do as infinity, the brilliant green, etc.) I was wondering if you guys can recommend some new (or older) bands that have the same sound or theme in their music?

I just watched the new TBG pv, and I'm loving it. I'm glad they're releasing new material now. I'm hoping for a new album soon . I downloaded Mika Nakashima's new album, so far she still sounds the same but I prefer her "normal" style compared to her NaNa style (which is I think is better with Anna Tsuchiya).

Hm, now that I have a job, I think I should pre-order Tokyo Jihen's third album, "Variety" (and perhaps order the 2 previous albums).

Also, any thoughts on Mizrock? I'm hearing she changed her name but failed to deliver the "oomph" when it comes to her music.

Tokyo Jihen, however, has two new singles this summer, both which are great, and a new album in September. And that's all that matters. No other artist is important.

New ELT pv/single is <3. I'm trying to look for info when they'll release a new album.

Also, lol Leah Dizon.

I just got that last night (I can't believe I missed it!). I can say that their sound changed a lot compared to their previous album. I was kind of expecting this since I read somewhere that the third album, "Variety", will be consisted of demo songs by the band members instead of Shiina writing most of the songs.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Well, the new Tokyo Jihen album is a disappointment. I was expecting a "variety" of pop/jazz/rock/electronica fusion, but what I got is a variety of songs with "beeps" and "bloops". Although there's few songs that I like (Kingyo no Hako, Fukushuu, Tsukigime-Hime, and Sake to Geko) the rest of it is very..."beepy".

Oh well, people change, music changes, and I (or we) have seen this trend with a lot of Japanese (and non-Japanese) bands.

Hm.. seeing that your Jpop experience is vastly greater than mine, I guess it's one of those "maybe it's just me" thing. Oh well, I hope TBG and ELT would release something soon.

Oh wow, this place had no activity in such a long time.

Anyways, to those who listen and follow the music industry of Japan, I would like to ask for recommendations. I used to listen to a lot of jpop back then (give or take 3 or so years). I enjoy rock/alternative bands with female vocals, such as Do As Infinity, The Brilliant Green, Every Little Thing, Shiina Ringo/Tokyo Jihen, Yui, hmm, I like some Utada Hikaru (since her songs aren't really that rnb-ish, or too sugary). Basically if you think you know bands/artists that belong to the same category, I would like to try them out.

I guess I just kind of missed the jpop sound, and would to listen to it again.

I just discovered Evil Musume today. Haha! This stuff is awesome! XD

Also listened to YUI's and ELT's latest albums, pretty happy with them. Nothing that can make me go "WOW" but it's all nice and happy. Or something. Gonna get some other stuff to try.
