Go out to Barnes & Noble or Borders and buy yourself a copy of the U.S. Constitution. Barnes & Noble had a nice set on sale last year of the Constitution, Declaration, and Articles of Confederation. It can be an interesting read.

Find your State's web site, and find a resource there that lists all current enforced laws.

Also, keep in mind that just because you know what your rights are doesn't mean someone isn't going to shove a nightstick up your sphincter and apply a taser to your balls until you evacuate your bowels all over yourself. Sure, you can hire a lawyer and cry legal foul all over the place, but you're still not going to be able to sit down in your fecal stained pants for a week. This is where street smarts and common sense can save you a lot of pain.
