No one really seems to play FFXI around here... anyhow, I'm not very excited with the new jobs. I'm not into melees and I kind of just like being a white mage and a black mage Nothing fancy, I'm not looking to be some sort of beefy character that can solo big mobs. Although RDM/NIN would be interesting.... if only I wasn't a taru with no melee jobs leveled

FFXI doesn't have a lot of soloable events, so even if you were to zip through all the expansions, you need to have a static that is willing to zip through all of that with you. It takes months for people JUST to complete all the promyvions and we're not even including the time spent leveling your jobs.

FFXI is $13/month for whoever asked.

Before I started playing, I was told that if you were married, you could SHARE a mog house. That's why I played a guy taru when my husband decided to play a hume female No benefits out of that one, PLUS I don't even get cute equipment!

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Uhh.. if you don't have patience, this is not the game for you. FFXI is really hard to get into, and it takes a lot of time to do anything. I actually get really frustrated with it and if I didn't have my husband basically giving me unlimited amounts of money and leveling for me, I would have quit a long time ago

There is plenty of things to do in terms of you won't get bored, but it's all very time consuming and it's not easy to do things on your own. If you find yourself a nice group of friends then you can accomplish a lot more.

Are there going to be a lot of Xbox360 players that plan to join after the release? Right now on Garuda we're getting some Xbox players that couldn't wait and bought the PC game. They're complaining that the prices are too high

BRD is probably the cheapest job to play, which is kind of nice.

I don't think FFXI draws too many new people anymore, I am kind of glad that there will be some new players around, that means I can help out with lower level stuff and feel like I know something

I bought it for 600k, not sure what it is now... but I feel bad for all the WHM who bought Raise III (which doesn't even benefit the player at all) for 2-3 million when now it's like 5k.

I think you missed my point, I meant that it doesn't benefit the WHM (the person who BUYS the spell), you can't raise III yourself unless you hit 75 and get reraise III and that's a totally different spell. I just don't understand why people would spend 3 million on a spell for everyone else's benefit. And it only affects people over lvl 50.

I seirously doubt people will not invite you to a party because you don't have Raise III. Erase, yes.

I've never seen anyone actually not invite a player because they don't have Raise III. Are they planning on wiping out? At those levels, the chances of dying are slim, so unless your party sucks and needs a WHM with Raise III, I'm not sure if anyone would want to be a part of that. Especially back when it was a couple of million, people would understand a whm being broke and not being able to afford it.

I kind of like the server I'm on. Even though there are jerks that play, petty things like not having a spell won't mean that your reputation is screwed. Unless you were MPKing people or cheating others, lack of good gear, spells, or not knowing how to play your job right doesn't really affect your chances of getting an invite. People end up helping each other out instead of blisting them or trying to ruin each other's reputation.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I think most FFXI players go to Killing Ifrit and Allakhazam to bitch and moan about things And it's not as fun when no one here is on the same server either.

I just picked up the game (including Rise of the Zilart and Chains of Promathia expansions). Apparently, it comes with a 30 day free subscription and a bunch of registration codes for PlayOnline, Tetra Master, the game itself and the expansions.

Seeing how I will probably never use a credit card to pay for fees, I need to find alternative ways to subscribe to the game if I happen to like the experience.

So obviously, I've got a few questions on my mind:

1. Is there anything basic I absolutely need to take care of prior to installing, setting up my account, etc.?

2. Which server should I choose?

3. Can I use the registration codes from another box to extend my own subscription without having to pay via credit card?

4. What are the expansions for and what do they contain? Are they required for me to install right away or are they optional?

Obviously, the most important question is the payment. For various reasons, I can't use a credit card for this, so I thought of just buying another set along with the registration codes to extend my subscription. It would be nice to know how the registration process works exactly and wether player characters are bound to registration codes or not.

Thanks a lot in advance!
Do you have some sort of debit or ATM card? You need some kind of account info that you can input online.

I would suggest choosing garuda but that's just me There's a site I'm part of (in my sig) and everyone is very welcoming and helpful.

I'm not sure how you would get registration codes from another box... you'd have to buy another game. You'd buy another game for $50 instead of getting a debit card? Once you create an account under 30 free days, if you get another one, you need to start all over because it's an individual account, not just a 30 free day trial.

The expansion contain things like advance jobs etc. If you want to play FFXI, then you should at least install the first two. The newest one which wasn't included, Treasures of Aht Urghan, you can't really do much unless you're level 50 and above so that one can wait. Although Zilart you definitely need if you want any sort of advance job and Chains of Promathia gives you access to new items and new areas. You can always install later if you're impatient. But it does take awhile to install everything.

You can try checking www.ffxi-garuda.com if you have more questions, the people there are probably a lot more helpful than I could be

Allakhazam is a good complete resource, between that and FFXI somepage, you should have all the details you need for awhile.

You don't like SMN? They're one of the most desired jobs once you hit 75. I am thinking of leveling it someday but lack of money right now.

Right now I am hating Chains of Promathia. Our static has been doing great up until 6-4 the airship battle. We only suffered a loss to Ouryu but we've been wiping on the airship. Granted it's the hardest mission in the game, the fact that we blow almost 500k-a mil at least each fight is getting ridiculous. The amount of time and prep work and then to wipe.... sigh. We're on our 5th try, we keep doing better each time but something always goes wrong. I hate CoP
