I think the last time I went was in high school, although we always planned to go when I was in college and it just never happened. If you've got decent enough costumes and you're polite (i.e. you don't act like teenage hoodlums) people don't seem to mind.
I don't know what I'm doing this year--probably a party. Maybe I'll find an orange bikini and paint a jack o' lantern face on my tummy.
