I bought this game last night, and I've played about 5 hours. It's a lot of fun so far.
I'm in the Shinshuu Plains right now; I just got there, so I'm mostly exploring. Since I haven't played any console adventures or platform games, the learning curve was a little higher for me than for most of you. It took me forever to figure out that you have to keep pushing the dig button to finish up digging. I'm not very good at the combat either, but luckilly it's been easy so far. The art is wonderful though. So is the gameplay. I've enjoyed running around, playing with the brushstrokes, and even just feeding all the animals. Most amazing jew boots |
Wow, you guys are all so far. I'm 9 hours in, and I'm still in Shinsho Field, though I've just about cleaned everything up - I think i have a couple of walls to Cherry Bomb, and then I'm heading back to make the village bloom and to see if anything changed in Sakuya's shrine.
I should get an hour (or maybe 2) of playing in tonight. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I wonder how far out in the water I can go before I hit a barrier.... Most amazing jew boots |
Okay, finally (at about 11h 25min elapsed) had my first Boss battle. Man, it was tough. Waka obliterated me the first time, even with the one-life from the Astral Pouch, and 5 or 6 Holy Bone S's. So yeah, I actually hit the "game over" point and had to reload.
I beat him on the second try though, without digging into the Astral Pouch, and using a few less bones than before. I guess it's all about timing, and learning how to use the beads and mirror properly... How ya doing, buddy? |
Wow, so many spoilers that I can't click on.
Anyway, I got to play for a few hours last night, so I finished the first dungeon, and beat the first real boss. She wasn't hard once you knew what to do, but I spent a good 10 or 15 minutes trying different things, probing in various places. Defeating her was very satisfying. I also bought the Golden Fury technique =p , and traded in a bunch of fangs for Lucky Cat and the Prayer Mat. So, do you guys use your Gold Dust right away? I've got 3 bags, but I haven't decided if I should use one on my new reflector. I was speaking idiomatically. |
I got to play some last night, and I got past the second boss, so I'm finished with the Gale Shrine. Tonight I'll probably finish the most recent "Wanted" list before moving ahead and following where the plot directs me. I just clocked in at 29:00, and I don't understand how I'm going so much slower than everyone else. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |

Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Well, last night I killed
Spoiler:
The sad part is, it took me over an hour to kill him (no deaths, just one continuous long battle) -- not because I couldn't figure out what to do, but because executing the pln was difficult with so much going on and with my not-so-great brushstroke control when drawing from point to point. Also, I used up 2 golden peaches, 2 inkstones, and a pile of holy bones S. For later bosses, I think I should upgrade my pouch some more. But, it felt great to bring him down. Now, at the first save after the battle, I clock in at ~34:00. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
You guys should check out the Okami official site:
http://www.o-kami.jp/ There's a lot of neat stuff on there, including some cute little cartoons. Meanwhile, I'm about 60 hours in, just finished Oni Island, and I'm currently running around some of the previous maps, trying to find beads I missed. Also, I've found 4 upgrade brush strokes. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Well, I've finally finished the game, so I thought I'd give you all my stats:
Spoiler:
All in all, I'm sad it's over, since I thoroughly enjoyed the game and grew to care about the characters. it's been a long time since a game drew me in to such an extent. Most amazing jew boots |
I spent about 88 hours on the game, though I completed almost all the sidequests.
I think most people (who are more experienced console gamers than me) are around the 35-40 hour mark for the main quest. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
