I reserved my copy of the LE at the beginning of the month at GameStop.com. I know some people are picking up their Saga DVDs from GameStop and EBgames stores and preorders stopped for the LE version about a week ago.

Apparently preorders for the regular edition are coming to a halt now too.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

They promise I'll get one with the game, but maybe I should go check...
The whole "No bonus before game release" could just be a local store enforcing that rule and not the actual instructions of the nationwide company.

Your best bet is to stop by there as soon as you can and enquire about it since various people from East to West coast have been picking up their copies of Saga.

In anycase, I made a pre-order of the LE with Play-Asia about a week ago. Just a backup plan incase I couldn't find it at Wal-Mart, or some other department store, and incase EB didn't have enough for me to upgrade.
Yeah Canada, at least EB stores, won't be carrying the LE version unfortunately. Here most EBgames and GameStop stores have already stopped taking preorders for not only the LE version but also the regular edition too.

Meanwhile the US Subsistence website updated:

The Saga DVD is quite good for MG fans, and for a free bonus anyways. Kojima discusses the Metal Gear series and talks about dropped concepts and whatnot including this little bit about what would of been the final fight with The Boss...

Kojima also talks about MGS4 which will address and provide answers for...
Spoiler:
Vamp's immortality, The Patriots, Olga's baby, and Liquid's arm controlling Ocelot.

Well that was the idea after MGS2 but the reaction to Raiden was less than favorable from gamers and fans so that canned any ideas for a new spinoff or series involving just Raiden. MGS4 will be the one to tie up and finish the storyline/series from MGS1-3 and at least the last Metal Gear title for Solid Snake.

Speaking of MGS4, right now they're working on the motion capture phase for the game while some of the team are sight seeing, taking photos for reference located between Norway and South Africa.

I believe Subsistence is heading over to Europe but they're kind of pissing about with the features. For example, the Platinum AKA "Greatest Hits" budget re-release of MGS3 will have the Metal Gear Saga DVD bundled in with it. They'll probably just release the 3 disc set of Subsistence rather than 2 pricing options.

The 3rd disc isn't a DVD either and can only be played on your PS2.

  • Demo Theater. Vew all the in-game cinematics in MGS3 that can be edited with different camouflage and face paints on Snake plus a secret "Peeping" mode.

Disc 2-Persistence
  • Duel Mode. Relive the battles with all the game's bosses in 2 special modes.
  • New Snake Vs Monkey Missions.
  • Secret Theater. A collection of hilarious movies using the MGS3 engine. Also includes Metal Gear Raiden-Snake Eraser trailer.

Disc 3-Existence [LE Version Only]

The regular edition consists of just Discs 1 & 2 and retails for $29.99 while the Limited Edition version features the 3rd Disc, Existence, and is $39.99. Preordering either version would of netted you the Metal Gear Saga DVD, a sit down with Hideo Kojima where he discusses the Metal Gear series past, present and future.

If you can. EBgames and GameStop stopped taking preorders for the LE version about 2 weeks ago. They've apparently stopped preorders for the Regular edition too now so I'm not sure what the availibility is for either version or whether or not you can actually walk in and purchase them in-store.

I hope Subsistence fixed it.
They have as well as improved the framerate and the 'Survival Viewer' loads quicker now too.

IGN has their review up:
http://ps2.ign.com/articles/694/694781p1.html

Quote:
Closing Comments
2004's Snake Eater was a fantastic but slightly-flawed game. Alternatively, Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence goes a long way towards remedying the few problems of that acclaimed title with a brand new camera system that literally rejuvenates the gameplay. The online mode adds a ton of replay value as well, and has dozens of options to keep you returning to blow away friends late into the night. For fans of the series, the additional extras, including the two theater modes and original Metal Gear games are bonuses that are simply not to be missed. For the price and the extras, you can't go wrong with Subsistence -- even for those that have played and beaten the first game once or several more times, it still can't be missed.
Quote:
10 Presentation
The flashiest presentation for Subsistence comes from its movies and bonus features taking center stage, which are good, but superfluous to the rest of the gameplay.
9.5 Graphics
The visuals are untouched, but the new camera makes every texture look like new. Online play is lag free with very few hitches.
10 Sound
Sound has remained practically the same, which isn't a bad thing at all, since the sound delivery of the original was basically perfect.
10 Gameplay
You have to love how the new camera makes Snake Eater feel like a new game, and the other modes more than back up the single player experience, while multiplayer rocks all.
10 Lasting Appeal
A redone camera system, Duel Mode and a robust online play guarantees this isn't a one trick snake ... er, pony.
9.8 OVERALL
Incredible

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

The only online game that requires the official PS2 HD is FFXI.
You also need the HDD for FFVII: Dirge Of Cerberus too if you're planning on online multiplayer. So if you're a PS2 slimline owner....You're screwed.

Ok I'm a little pissed right now.

I ordered my copy of Subsistence LE at the beginning of February on the 2nd and today my order has been shown as "Processing" all day. Now I check to see if it's shipped only to find that the game is now "Backordered".

WTF?! Either they didn't actually get them in stock today or...Shit if it's the latter and they're all out then magazine racks are going flying.

GameStop. Someone else over at GAF ordered from EB and got their order shipped and EB/GameStop are supposed to be intergrated but I haven't read anyone having their order from GS.com ship today yet....

Well I guess it turns out that GameStop never got their shipment hence the "Backordered" status on all orders. In store pickups aren't until tomorrow either.

Now I just need to get everything for online which means a PS2 Network Adapter..

And today was the ship date, you weren't supposed to be able to pick it up in-store until tommorrow. I really hate how Gamefaqs and most places show the ship date as the release date, since there's always the flood of people complaining that they didn't have it that day (not referring to you, just in general).
I haven't heard from anyone who's order did ship so I assumed it was the same regardless of what shipping method you chose if they had none in stock.

The thing about the release date is that some stores actually do, and did for MGS3:S, carry the game on the date released and when it's a big title like GTA, Halo or anything like that then most often they'll have it on the Tuesday release date.

The last time I used GameStop to preorder anything was for Resident Evil 4 on the GC and they actually shipped the game out a day before the game's scheduled release date.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

At least your copy is on the way. There's still no change with GameStop.com....

Double Post:
Ok so consider my order cancelled.

I got off the phone with GameStop little over half an hour ago to find out just what the shit is going with my order. After 20 minutes waiting in a queue I finally get to customer service who already prepared for what I'm about to ask and simply said that they didn't receive enough copies than what they ordered. As such they should be getting more on March 23rd, a week from tomorrow.

Assuming they do and it ships on the 23rd, with the shipping and all I'd be lucky to get the game before the end of the month. They say they didn't get enough copies yet I've got a friend up in Maine who is the general manager of one GameStop willing to send me whatever number copies of the LE version and Saga DVD since they got plenty to go around....

How ya doing, buddy?

Yeah so apparently GameStop doesn't know jack shit. After I got off the phone with them I went to cancel my order altogether because chances are I could get the LE version elsewhere rather than having to wait until next Thursday, only my order on GameStop had changed from "Back Ordered" to "Processing".

Curious by the change in status I decided to wait it out and lo and behold my order shipped.

I won't be online for awhile though. I need a Network Adapter and an Ethernet cable because my PC is one room and my PS2/TV in the other.

Yeah I think I'll be selling my copy of the LE version+Saga if they're going for $150+. Besides I can always pick up the regular edition with the Demo Theatre which is basically what Existence is anyways.

Seriously, is Existence really worth that much when you can just watch all the cutscenes on the first disc with the regular edition?
