God Of War 2

Release: March 13th, 2007

IGN's New Hands-On Preview & Video Interview:
http://ps2.ign.com/articles/755/755391p1.html

Just head to the videos section of the article to see 4 new clips from the beginning of the game featuring Kratos taking on a colossus. The boss fight looks insane.

On a related note, to coincide with the release of GoW2 NECA is producing a 7" figure of Kratos in 2 versions:

Standard Version

This version includes...
  • The Blades of Chaos.
  • 2 flaming arching chains which the blades can attach to.
  • Different head sculpt - "Aggressive, Open Mouthed" expression.

Golden Fleece Armor

The Golden Fleece Armor version of Kratos is based on his look in GoW2 and includes the following...
  • The Blades of Chaos.
  • Interchangeable right arm with the Golden Fleece Armor.
  • Interchangeable right hand holding Medusa's Head.
  • Different head sculpt - "Serious, Closed Mouth" expression.

The idea also is that with both versions you can mix and match accessories and parts between the 2 also.

Anyways I loved the first game and I'm pumped for GoW2!

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Can't wait. I love that newer cover, there was that crappy cover that was going around that people thought was final, but this is much better. Is the game actually 2 discs or is the 2nd disc just bonus content?

Oh, and I want that figure.
You mean this one?

I must admit I do that like that artwork above but yeah the one they went with is the better of the two especially since the rejected one looks awfully similiar to GoW1's cover art. Still perhaps GoW2's sleeve will be reversible like the first game's sleeve to feature both artworks.

The game is only 1 disc. The second disc is all bonus content including a documentary that charts the game's development from the very beginning to completetion. Best of all the 2 disc set is the standard one and only edition that'll be available so no having to shell out an extra $10 for bonus content like most sets.

I'm just curious if they'll offer GoW2's soundtrack free again and if they do hopefully do so via a means that actually works.

How ya doing, buddy?

I hope this is worthy of the bump: New God Of War II Trailer!
http://www.gametrailers.com/player.p...pe=mov&pl=game

Wicked trailer with some amazing visuals even for the PS2.

The game is also officially complete with just the last stages of QA to go before going gold and mass production, making the game ready to hit shelves on March 13th.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Hmm, I hope they fix the screen tearing issues this time. Apart from that, God of War looked pretty impressive in progressive scan.
Not sure if it'll fix the issue but God Of War II has been optimised for HDTVs as well supporting 'Widescreen' and 'Progressive' according to Cory Barlog, GoWII's director, and David Jaffe.

Looks like EBgames/GameStop is already beginning to promote GoWII:

Better view of the narly poster in the above snapshot:

Playable demos are going out next month. I just wish I knew about the demo offer sooner as I would of had this in the mailbox within the next 1-2 weeks...

The director is signing copies of the demo and sending them to people if you sent him your address like a month ago through his blog. Luckily i was browsing so I'll get a copy. I don't think hes accepting emails for it anymore though. I watched the trailer yesterday and was really impressed I'm sure the game will be at least as good as the first one. One also starts out with the Blades of Athena and Posidens Rage.

link to the game directors blog btw http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=2567
Yeah I know. Sadly I didn't keep tabs on Barlog's blog so I missed out on the chance unlike the GoW1 demo from Jaffe. Still it seems this kind of thing would be the perfect thing to distribute via the Playstation Network.

Seems like the press have got the demo though, what with GameTrailers and such posting videos. Here's the full run through of the demo from the excellent opening intro to the end title:
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3

I'm fiending for this game so much that the 5 week wait is almost unbearable.

I was speaking idiomatically.

I give it a week before it surfaces on torrent sites.
More than likely, especially with more and more press and sites getting the review code as well. The only downside of course being that the game is still going through the final stages of QA with the removal of any final bugs and glitches which I'd imagine won't be in the review code pictured there given the date, along with the final game being on one disc and not two.

New gameplay clip for anyone interested featuring Pegasus:
http://www.gametrailers.com/player.p...e=wmv&id=16885

Some Hi-Res screenshots too:
http://www.jeux-france.com/news19126...-les-airs.html

In other GoW news, the New York Toy Fair is this weekend where NECA will be showing off the two 7" figures of Kratos but will also unveil the big 13" version too that's supposed to come with an assortment of accessories and be quite impressive.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Unfortunately it's only 480p not 720. IGN got their facts a little mixed up and as such updated their review.

1UP.com has their review up too:
http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3157112
Quote:
When a prerelease God of War 2 demo first arrived at 1UP, the only "secret" we uncovered after two hours of searching was a statue of a small boy peeing in the bathhouse. On its own, this wasn't much of anything, but given the franchise's history of earning its Mature rating, it seemed to hint at something more.

So when the full game arrived for review, we headed back to that statue to see if anything had changed, and...well...it looked about the same. But the statue was joined by two topless ladies waiting for Kratos to Circle-button them, and if you choose to go that route, the camera zooms in on the statue and the boy's stream stops and starts while you hear various noises.

Yes, God of War is back.
Also the official site is now up:
http://www.us.playstation.com/Content/OGS/...te/default.html

The concept art is worth checking out though..

Got my copy today and just finished the first level...WOW.

Aside from looking like one of the, or perhaps THE, best looking PS2 titles the first level was just epic. One thing that wasn't in the demo but in the final game comes courtesy of the obligatory sex minigame in the bathhouse that brought a LOL to how it's "portrayed" and such.

Now I can't wait to give a Pegasus a try and the tidbit of Harry Hamlin reprising his role from Clash Of The Titans has me giddy.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

Did you forego sleep or something? People said this game was twice as long as the original, and it's only been out a day.

Wow, was the sequence where
Spoiler:
The Steeds of Time start up and pull the two islands together
realtime? Because if so.....wow.
Seemed like a prerendered cinematic using the in-game engine but with how good the graphics look it's hard to tell. That was an awesome and jaw dropping moment though.

BTW did anyone else check out the reverse sleeve with the packaging? Looks like we get the best of both worlds in terms of the NTSC/PAL artwork.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Right now my only big complaint is that so far, most of the enemies are carried over from the previous game, or just rehashes of the original monsters. I'm still in the area that I spoiler tagged, but I hope there will be plenty of original opponents aside from the bosses.
I'm a little past there after getting...
Spoiler:
The Amulet/Sphere of the Fates which allows you to slow down time...

....and some enemies from the first game crop up along with some new cool ones too especially if you remember the old Harryhausen Clash Of The Titans/Jason & The Argonaughts.

Right now I just defeated...
Spoiler:
The Barbarian King from the first game and received my first sub weapon: The Barbarian's Hammer. Awesome weapon with some great damage.

I'm thinking of picking this up, save for one issue:

In the original God of War, when you finish the game, everything that you did will be erased when you start a new game. Does GoW2 allow carrying over items/experience/whatever when you start a new game?
Yes. GoWII has a "New Game+" where you get to keep all your abilities and upgrades from you've unlocked to a new game. Also there are extra items, Urns of Power I believe, placed throughout the game during the "New Game+" to help unlock more features.

Speaking about Harryhausen and Clash Of The Titans, regarding Perseus...
Spoiler:
That was a good battle but the final blow was such a great payoff, not to mention a really brutal way to go.

I dunno about anyone else but I think this game was meant to be played on God(hard) mode. I played about 2 chapters on spartan(normal) mode and found there was never any threat of death in any of the battles. I'm almost done the game now on hard mode and I must say its a ton more satisfying. Sure you die like 4 - 11 times on every boss, but that just makes the way kratos finishes them off all the more pleasing. You must try it.
Pretty much the mode I've been playing it on. God Mode seems like it's more suited for GoW vets while Spartan is for those who missed out on the first game but ultimately it's whatever you're comfortable with.

I haven't had a chance to play for 2 or 3 days which means no I haven't completed it and I'm currently at...
Spoiler:
the Palace of the Fates with the Phoenix Ashes challenge.

Just completed it. Excellent, excellent game where the visuals never failed to impress and the action along with all the boss fights that kept the game being challenging and gruesomely rewarding. The only problem now is that I'm left to wait at the very least 2 years for God Of War III...

Now I've just got give the Challenge mode a whirl and replay the game to get all the urns which I've already found one of.

I'm just a little perplexed about one thing though because the instruction booklet notes Cam Clarke voicing Hercules...
Spoiler:
..and yet he is nowhere to be found in the game, so what's the deal? Hopefully they'll throw him in GoWIII for an encounter...

...along with Achilles and heck, if you can get Harry Hamlin to reprise his role from Clash Of The Titans for GoWII then how about trying to get Gerard Butler for Leonidas?

I think I'm going to look into getting the LE guide next week plus the 2 versions of the Kratos figure are supposed arrive then too which I'll post some snaps of when I get 'em.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Simo, the answer to your question
Spoiler:
heracles
, is THAT BLACK FIGURE you fought and killed . The same spartan that also survives in the beginning. You can also unlock him after finishing the game, in titan mode, as alternate costume along with
Spoiler:
athena
.
People who have read GreekMyth had no problem figuring that out.
Spoiler:
THAT was Hercules?! Eh...well that doesn't seem to make much sense. I thought Hercules was supposed to be another champion and son of Zeus and not just a Spartan soldier...

Quote:
One question
What are the contents of second dvd?
(is there any concept art, music samples , how much content is there, i am more interested in concept arts).
Haven't watched all the DVD but there are like 3 or 4 documentaries about the concept art for the game be it the creation of Kratos, the environments, enemies, the creation of Zeus and the bosses. There's also a doc for the music of the game with interviews.

Simo:
Spoiler:
Well yes he was supposed to but the game has fictionalized Greekmyth, some of the greek parts are there , other are heavily modified(for good,Greekmyth can't get more creative and exciting like this). So its its their version.
Myths aren't about sense i guess. I was wondering and even asked someone that how could Titans can have sex with human, giving birth to human child. What is the sex process?
Some said that titans could take human form but nothing is concrete .

There are many sons of zeus and kronos, almost all of them are brothers and sisters, its quite complicated, they all haven't got importance and attention atleast in this story so hercules importance is not the case here, kratos is more important.
Where hercules always gets attention in other stories, here he is not the star but kratos is and i liked it.
In other stories kratos is not even mentioned, only after gow1 i found his existenz.
Come to think of it Threesisters of fate, athena, ares all are even children of zeus.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zeus
Also do check the pics i attached and the wikipedia entry of gow2 for extra tidbits, in case you have missed.Take note of the bosses you wil face in gow3.
4 of them standing in the final FMV
I know but Hercules is just an important character as Zeus in all respects since the majority of people are more likely to know who Hercules is over say Perseus. Heck the Spartans are supposed to of descended from Hercules himself so it seems highly unlikely...
Spoiler:
...that the last Spartan Kratos commands and fights is Hercules. That and the bonus Hercules costume basically rules out the last Spartan anyways.

So again, where is Hercules in GoWII?

Reading other boards/forums, all gamers are confused. Whether he is or not, gamers are fighting.
Things to get noted

Camclarke voiced him.
He is crdited.
Maybe he was cut out in last second.
I never checked the model (alt. costume), so i was under wrong impression.
Do you have any pic the costume anyway?
There is no other guess , but my final guess would be that he will appear in PSP game.
Maybe the voices have been already recorded for PSP version too.
Here's a YouTube video of the costume:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCm20WxG70w

I'm wondering if he's actually one of the challenges for the Challenge of the Titans or whatever the uber challenge mode you can unlock is called.

Anyways I did come across some excellent concept art for GoWII by Andy Park:

Spoiler:

I think I'll need to check out the LE guide on Wednesday for the artbook.

Fuck man excellent , i don't have words to explain my excitement. Please answer my query below

1. Is this andypark art form extra DVD?

2.Where to get this LE guide (you are showing)? Are these concepts in the extra dvd or they are completely new just for this LE?

Update: came across this http://andyparkart.blogspot.com/
This pic is from here so , i think i have no other way to get this artbook other than requesting yout , if you can scan but 112 pages?
So my question again , if these concpets are there in extra bonus dvd or not?
The concept art is from Andy Park's official site:
http://www.andyparkart.com

Not everything is there and naturally more is in the artbook and then some considering the other artists involved.

The second DVD with the game has no Art Gallery feature but several documentaries about the art design where you get glimpses of various pieces of artwork. So really it seems the LE guide is your best bet to get all your GoWII art needs.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Bah! What a letdown. I was hoping it would of been some official goods on the PSP title...

Hey Simo from where i can order this guide online, how much it cost?
EBgames or GameStop.com sells them but given your location Amazon.com might be your best bet since they sometimes send books internationally. The LE guide retails for $29.99 plus there'll be the shipping too.

Anyways after the first shipment was sold out instantly along with the second wave sold out last week, my Kratos figures finally arrived yesterday!

Unfortunately the photos I took with my POS camera do not do the figures justice but here are some better snaps from someone else with the figure just to give a better idea...
Spoiler:

TONS of articulation and one the best mass produced paint jobs to date. Suffice to say it's the best figure NECA have put out to date and I can't wait for the 12" version.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
