But still no MGS theme?!? Are you fucking kidding me?

Ah, what the hell...It's definitely a good time to be an MGS fan!
Which only reafirms my fear of it being axed thanks to those 2 Russian journalists last year.

AHHHH [explative], this is getting ridiculous. My mouse hovers over the Spoiler tags, debating whether to click on that "show" button, but alas, my call for class has averted me for about another hour.

But to those who have seen the trailer, you've been doing a great job keeping it in spoiler tags; please contine to do so, so that I may enter at my own risk.

So when exactly is the conference/the time when the real video will be uploaded?
Well my last post I supposed could be pretty spoilerish given it contains 2 animated gifs of the next to last scene in the trailer and is probably the moment that Ryan Payton at Kojima Productions wished they hadn't included but man, it does fucking rock!

The English dubbed version of the trailer though should be online at 6pm PST.

Also worth noting is that in the new podcast by Payton today he mentions that there 40 booths at the Konami stand with MGS4 playable along with 8 more at Sony's stand except some of those have a special surprise. It wouldn't divulge what it was but no doubt it has something to do with the new Dual Shock controller...

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

What happened? I haven't heard of this.

Any news if the playable demo will hit PSN? =o
During GC last year 2 Russian gaming journalists had the chance to interview Kojima at the event but instead played a track by popular Russian flute player that sounded an awful lot like the MGS theme that was composed in the 70s IIRC. It seems ever since then the theme hasn't shown up with it being absent in every MGS4 trailer and was even snipped from the "MGS Theme" track on the 20th Anniversary album released not too long ago.

According to 1UP they TGS demo WILL appear on PSN but no timeframe was given. You can read their impressions of the demo at the link below:
Metal Gear Solid 4 PS3 Preview, Metal Gear Solid 4 Playstation 3 Preview
Quote:
We did enjoy the various rumble effects employed by the new Dual Shock 3 controller, though: As explosions rattled around Snake, we could actually feel the direction from which they were coming based on what part of the controller virbated. Overall, the controls feel incredibly streamlined and accessible, while still retaining the precise movement and aiming fans have come to expect from the franchise.
Gamersyde has some showfloor footage of the demo:

...And of course the direct feed, although compressed WMV crap, English dubbed and subtitled trailer is now up:

Well back home from vacation to the UK and now I had the chance to watch the HD English dubbed trailer. Some good stuff in there but didn't really have that much of impact compared to the trailers for MGS4's predecessors. Infact the only trailer that seems like a typical "Kojima" trailer was at last year's E3 which introduced the characters with that vocal track and suicidal Snake. I think the main issue is with the music as again all the previous Metal Gear trailers featured the "Main Theme" prominantly and it's been notably absent in every MGS4 trailer to date including this TGS one which marks the last major event and trailer that the public will see.

Kojima supposebly said the theme was in the game but I'm even more doubtful after this trailer.

Spoiler:
BTW, did anyone notice the snowy local Snake and Liquid were fighting at? Could that possibly be Shadow Moses?
Spoiler:
It looks like it but the one question I have is what is REX still doing there? I would figured that after the events at Shadow Moses the government or even the Patriots would of retrieved and disposed of it, unless of course Ocelot selling the specs on the black market pretty much left REX to be left there with the rail gun dismantled and the entire base locked down and under surveilance...?

But if this had made any kind of ruckus, wouldn't we have heard about it?
Not unless they wanted to draw more attention to it than it already has. It almost seems like they're trying to quietly axe it incase of I assume copyright infringement by not including it in the trailers and snipping the theme portion from the MGS3 track on the 20th Anniversary CD. The problem is that it hasn't really worked since it already has drawn much attention thanks to the fans so there really is no idea if it'll be in the game or not.

Here's the video in question though of the 2 Russian journalists meeting Kojima and then playing the music:
YouTube - Metal gear solid main theme - plagiarism?

Argh. I did it. I watched the trailer, but in all honesty, with wasn't that bad at all. It's definetly worth viewing regardless.
Spoiler:
But what gets me is the question of what the hell Snake is doing with Rex that doesn't have a rail gun, or any other means to battle with Ray... What the hell?
Spoiler:
Because he's that bad ass that he's going to take on a Metal Gear that was designed to be THE Anti-Metal Gear that's twice the size of REX with only a Vulcan Cannon and a laser..

Also the demo for MGS4 unfortunately won't be on PSN. Seems like there was a miscommunication and while Kojima Productions "would like" to release a demo, at this time there are no plans to do so.

There's plenty of videos of the demo on the net though but sadly those playing it can't play nought for shit including this one at Jeuxvideo but you do get to see the Codec in MGS4:
Jeuxvideo.TV : Vidéo Metal Gear Solid 4 : Guns Of The Patriots

Along with some new clips at IGN:
IGN: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Trailer, Videos and Movies
Spoiler:

Also for anybody interested Jonnyram over at NeoGAF scanned the entire 52 page booklet that was handed out to each gamer who played the demo:

It's not though.

The track "Metal Gear Solid Main Theme - The World Needs Only One Big Boss!" is basically the main theme track from MGS3 except when it gets to the 5:04 mark when the Metal Gear theme is supposed to kick in the music shifts to the MGS2 track "The World Needs Only One Big Boss" and the MG theme is never heard.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Spoiler:
That's a good question. Why is it that the military/gov't haven't anything to clean up the facility?
Spoiler:
Well given Ocelot leaked the specs soon after on the black market maybe they thought it wasn't worth it and just set up security and shut the base down. I think I recall a bit of information in MGS2's extra features with those newspaper clips and Nastasha's book which mentioned a journalist going out to Shadow Moses but being captured by an unknown group where he was then rescued by Snake and Meryl...?

Quote:
Bleh, that sucks. It doesn't even sounds like they intend to release it. Why must they deny us the chance to play it!?! Hmm, maybe they're planning to package it an upcoming game of theirs...
Well Kojima Productions doesn't have a title coming out between now and MGS4's release and with no Official Playstation Magazine anymore they can't really bundle it with anything. I honestly expect the expect the demo to be released before the year's end if anything because of the overwhelming positive reaction at the show. I mean even with 48 stations set up and only allowed 15 minutes of play time there was still a 4 hour wait line to play the demo.

It'll probably be worth keeping an ear out for Payton's podcasts and see if he'll reveal anything next week or in the weeks to come.

Might I suggest that anyone who is intrested in MGS4, check out "The 1up show" this week, they talk in depth about their chance to play the demo for about a hour and a half. I found it to be pretty intresting and I also like their takes on most everything they review and talk about...

Just letting everyone know
Saw the show and I'd recommend too. Some interesting details they talk about that some sites haven't covered and their impressions of the Dual Shock 3 was interesting too. At least with the demo coverage we now some details that sort out the story and the clarification that the demo is approximately 15 minutes into the actual game.

Ruliweb has the better video available though since the demo is being played by someone who is, well, actually good. Stream is available in a post or 2 above but the downloadable HD versions are much better and worth keeping:

Spoiler:

Interesting note from the first Codec conversation with Otacon involving Metal Gear MkII that I'll spoiler code just incase...
Spoiler:
Apparently the MKII was developed and constructed by both Otacon and Sunny which means they must of already rescued her prior to MGS4.

The trailer kind of made it seem that Naomi and Sunny were both captured together and being held by Liquid but I guess not now.

Something about those images...

Spoiler:
Old Snake? I don't know if I'm reading into this a little too much, but are we going to wind up playing as a different Snake at some point? Or someone else entirely? The prospect of playing as Johnny amuses me to no end.

Oh and the weapons are crazy, damn.
Spoiler:
I don't think so as Kojima stated that Snake would be the main and you play as. Of course it might not rule out being able to control Cyborg Raiden or any other character but right now it's just Snake that we know is the only playable character.

The name just refers to what the developers and fans are supposed to know Snake as now as well as the rest of the cast in comparison of what they were when most first met them in MGS1 to who they are now at the end of it all. Examples being Solid Snake - Old Snake, Col. Campbell - Roy Campbell, Revolver Ocelot - Liquid Ocelot etc. that the E3 2K6 trailer emphasised.

I love the variety of weapons in the game now and weapon customisations makes it all the more sweeter.

One thing to notice in demo is stress level below health bar, maybe 'snake needing injection' comes from there.
The "Stress" meter increases depending on the action going on around or involving Snake. So trying to sneak through a war torn city with explosions going off all around you and bullets whizzing overhead causes the meter to rise and when it reaches it's limit then Snake goes into a "Battle High" where your accuracy increases and you take half the damage but it doesn't last too long and could cause Snake to lose conciousness. So it has it's rewards and losses given that it'd be handing in a last ditch effort when you're in a tight spot but when there's reinforcements around, well then you're screwed.

If you look above the Stress meter you'll see the "Psych" bar. It's pretty similiar to the old stamina gauge etc the psych bar is affected by the weather conditions and terrain and the only way to fill it back up is to psych Snake up via what'll no doubt be GOTY material for sexninja: collecting and flicking through nudie magazines.

That was a good article on GameSpot and the mention of 70+ weapons that are all customiseable...

Uh, what does that even mean.

Are they creating a demo for an upcoming game show in the states, or an actual PSN demo.

The least they could give us is a VR session, which shows off the character models and new movesets. I would even pay $5.
Well the info came from Ryan Payton's lastest podcast so a link would of helped:
i-revo The KP Report Session 059 マイポータル

He wouldn't really divulge any information saying that everyone should have a hint of what's going to happen and that they were now working on the English demo. So basically it should be an English version of the TGS demo that when done will hopefully go up on PSN given that there are no major trade shows left between now and MGS4's release. The only other way to get this demo into the public's hand outside of PSN is possibly through EBgames/GameStop as a preorder bonus but that seems a little too soon for such a bonus to come into effect.

Other interesting parts of the podcast was Payton being asked if the Dual Shock 3 was an improvement over Dual Shock 2 to which he replied "Absoluetely" and that they only received the DS drivers just a week prior to TGS.

Also the new MGS4 and MGO trailers should be up on PSN Thursday...could be tomorrow or next Thursday given that the podcast was recorded earlier in the week.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Oh and the Ultra Detail Figure: MGS figures (those 7" ones from medicom) and MGS 20th Anniversary Kubrick figures are in this month's PREVIEWS. Heh and the masked Snake is called Octocom in the item details, I'm assuming they meant Octocamo. The UDF figures are scheduled to ship in this December, and I'm assuming the Kubricks will probably be in December or January.

Heh, that reminds me I gotta place a pre-order for those RAH figures soon too, considering how the exchange between US and CAD $ are pretty much equal now.
Well you might want to hurry with the RAH figures then since Sideshow is completely sold out so whatever the limited quantity the likes of CornerstoreComics.com or other stores will get will be it.

Here are a couple of photos from TGS of the RAH Old Snake on display. Wish I could find more but these 2 images were the onlys one I could find:

Its nice to see some of the accessories Snake is getting and by the looks of the poster Raiden will be out before Snake at the end of the year.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Damn, didn't expect it to happen that quickly. Though I don't wanna place my pre-order with CornerstoreComics just yet (where the total comes up to be 50 bucks less than Sideshow's and that's including shipping! good deal), as I wanna see if these are going to be available through Diamond. Heh, be sweet as I'm sure I'd be saving a lot more by ordering through my comic dealer than online (the guy usually sell's me items at whole sale price).

Man I wish they showed the figures in a kneeling pose or something, so we can at least see how the articulation works with the legs (eg. limitations).

Interesting to note that RAH Snake has a black vest/harness (I think that's the right word for em), while in the game Snake's vest/harness is tan. I wonder if he'll be changing vests in the game.
I doubt Previews will have it to be honest since the catalogue is usually for merchendise that Diamond distributes like the 7" UDF line and Koto's Final Fantasy stuff for example and the RAH figures already have a distributor in Sideshow.

The colour of the vest just seems to be a design choice they haven't updated given the vest was originally black in the TGS '05 video and renders. Considering Snake is scheduled to ship after Raiden theres still time to change that which I hope they will do or at least include it as an option.

Speaking of which the new Kojima Productions podcast is now up:
i-revo The KP Report Session 060 マイポータル
  • Big announcement coming this week.
  • Ryan has been working on the polygon demos with everything coming together nicely.
  • The rest of last week's interview is covered with some information about PMCs, locations and some questions about the trailer answered.

Ryan wouldn't really divulge anything about the announcement but really I'd imagine it'd be either info about the playable demo, an actual release date or the 20th anniversary boxset heading to the US.

Well the Kojima Productions Report #61 is now up:
i-revo The KP Report Session 061 マイポータル

The announcement turned out to be the English version of the TGS demo playable at the E For Everyone event in LA between October 18th-21st. So not only is the demo completely in English but it's also been tweaked and is a newer version than the TGS version, although there are no new areas showcased.

No word on whether or not it'll be on PSN but it seems like with there now being an English and Japanese version of the TGS demo they could throw them both up on the PSN without any trouble.

Oh and the secret thing Ryan and Ken seem to be referring to at the end with the keyword being "Logo/Logan" seems to be for MGS4's opening that they've talked about before including at last year's TGS...
TGS 06: Kojima on Metal Gear - PlayStation 3 News at GameSpot
Quote:
Kojima also revealed that the intro sequence for MGS4 will be done by Logan, replacing Kyle Cooper who worked on the previous two installments. The intro sequence of MGS3 let users control the screen, but according to Kojima, MGS4 is going to be even better and startling. "The customer-service phone line is going to be flooded with calls, and I'm going to get fired," joked Kojima.

Whatever the intro will be like, Kojima's idea behind it was big enough to even get developers jumping out of their seats. According to MGS4 codirector Shuyou Murata, "I totally flipped out when I heard about it. It's going to be like a promotional video, but there's going to be more to it."

Logan's Alex Tylevich was tight about releasing any details, but he gave some first hints, commenting, "It's going to be highly unusual for a video game opening. It's going to be very futuristic."
IGN Advertisement
Quote:
Logan will also be designing the Metal Gear Solid 4 opening, Kojima revealed as he closed off the stage. The opening will have even more impact than the opening from part 3. It will be highly unusual for a videogame opening and will have game-like elements, said the logo designer.

That's bullshit. Exactly how many people would get to play the demo vs how many if it were to go on PSN? Besides, playable demos have played history in the past MGS games. MGS 2 was packed in with ZoE and the MGS 3 demo was packed in a mixed demo disc for OPM. How much would it actually kill them to release a demo for this (you know).

I'll still get the game, but it just sucks that we'll have to jump in blindly, head-first (so to speak) without a chance for some hands-on. Hell I saw demo discs "for sale" at Best Buy recently for certain games. (They weren't for sale, per-se, more that you put $5 down and *have* to pre-order the game in order to purchase the demo)
Not only that but putting together the TGS demo let alone the English version is no small feat either since they're pulling the same kind of resources that should be going in to the development of the game for the development of demo, which Payton made a point of in the last podcast.

Not releasing it to the public via PSN or any other form and now the poor attendence for E For All makes it seem that all that effort was a waste of time and money.

It's more frustrating because you know that even Konami knows that the release of the demo is likely to build and increase hype which in the long run would be obviously beneficial for the title and now with both a Japanese and English version of the demo available that could go up on PSN whenever they want.

Hahaha, wow that is pretty terrible. Is the admission fee really high or something? Hopefully this poor turn out converts to a PSN download now.
Admission fees ranged from $90 for the whole 4 days or $50 for just 2.

Quote:
Hmm... maybe they're just saying all this now as a deception, maybe they are infact planning release a demo within a month or two of the game's release (which sucks if true, I want my demo now! especially since they got one prepared already)? I mean the previous MGS demos were within that same time frame (month or two prior) right? There may be hope yet! But yea, I don't think I'm gonna keep my hopes up for it anymore, every week I listen in in hopes of them announcing the demo's release on the PSN and been disappointed everytime.
Seemed like they were just hyping up E For All but when that passes who knows. Demo timeframes for the previous games had the MGS2 demo released 8 months before release and the MGS3 demo a 1-2 months via OPM before the US release. The MGS4 booth had around an hour wait mainly because only 12 people at a time were let in at 30 minute intervals for an otherwise poorly setup booth according to press.

Whoa, haha was the MGS2 demo released that early? It was so long ago I can't remember. I do remember buying ZOE day one just so I could play the MGS2 demo (haha, which I remember spending the whole week on before finally trying out ZOE).
Yeah it was. I mean the MGS3 demo sucked just because OPM had it timed but thinking about MGS2 and ZOE...man, brings back some fond memories though. I mean MetalGear.net was the first ever board I registered and posted at back in 2000 and I remember buying ZOE because not only did we get it before the US and Japan but this particular electronics store broke the street date by a week and so I got it extra early. Took some convincing of the MG.N boarders though...

But I mean there were so much to do in that demo that I ended up playing it for almost 8 months and still finding new details just in that small area which is why it'd be nice to get the MGS4 demo since it'd probably tide everyone over and have enough to play around with until next March.

For now though we'll just have to put up with more impressions and no doubt more videos of people playing the demo who have no idea how to play...
IGN: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Preview
Quote:
This won't be like any previous MGS4 hands-on article; whether that's a good thing or a bad thing, however, is up to you. Having watched the evolution of the Metal Gear franchise ever since the NES days, I personally have only gotten seriously into a handful of iterations. My Metal Gear knowledge goes none too far beyond what I picked up on NES, remember from Metal Gear Solid on PSX, paid attention to in the GBC remake, and tried to follow on PSP with Portable Ops. If nothing else, this preview should give non-MGS fans a look through the eyes of someone that's - admittedly - one in the same. Still, despite being a bit rusty in my MGS ways, today's playthrough captured my attention again, as Metal Gear Solid 4 is one hell of a game.

Quote:
As mentioned, the demo today harks back to the TGS version we played a while back, though it's now fully in English, and contains some stronger AI. The demo kicks off with Snake landing in a small village located in the Middle East Red Zone: Northwest Sector, responding to a recon mission based entirely on rumors that Liquid Snake is amassing an army in the city. After a quick mission briefing via codec, Snake is sent on his way, and within moments is caught up in a battle between a small resistance group and none other than Liquid's army, who rolls up in a turret-toting K-19 armored car. Troops unload, and a battle ensues.

Quote:
As for the controls, Metal Gear Solid 4 is simple and intuitive to jump into, housing nearly all of the in-game actions on triangle, with shooting handled on R1, aiming on L1, and the classic MGS drop-down menus on L2/R2 respectively. The X button makes use of the fairly mainstream standing, crouch, prone setup, having players tap to switch between a full stand and crouch, with prone only activating when holding down X for a brief moment. Between those simple controls and a few others (O allows for reload, while square switches between aim modes) you've got everything you'll need.

Quote:
After a few minutes of sneaking around (and play time ticking away) I decided to open up on a few soldiers to check out MGS4's revamped combat control. It's a huge leap in the right direction, using the same over-the-shoulder RE4-like camera, with the additional option of rocking a more classic "auto-aim" function for MGS purists. The aiming was a bit floaty at times, but for the most part it was smooth sailing as I gunned down soldier after soldier with my MP5. Once you're in the thick of it though, you won't often come back, as the ambient noise switched from a propaganda-spewing loudspeaker to one radioing for military backup. After piling up a stack of about a dozen bodies, I made a run across the street for shelter and was promptly gunned down by the K-19 car. Hey, when you're short on time you at least need to try for it, right?

Quote:
Snake Eater was a nice look back to the roots of Metal Gear, dropping players back into the wide open jungle, but there's something far more rewarding when you're creeping through monasteries, slithering on your belly as a firefight rages on all around you, or deciding to befriend local soldiers in return for support when it's most needed. Metal Gear Solid 4 blends the classic Metal Gear feel with a design not entirely removed from games like GRAW, and it's a refreshing experience to be back in the thick of battle. As far as I'm concerned, MGS4 is already shaping up to be the best Metal Gear since Solid. Take it with a grain of salt, but it's the first game in the series to really hook me in nearly a decade, and there's something to be said for that.

GT's videos were great and I'm surprised that everything was in English given I just expected it to be like past demos and just feature English text and subtitles with Japanese VA. The war propaganda was a nice touch and some of the insurgents chatter was...interesting.

"You're the man now dog!"

Still with Payton defending KP about no PSN demo I can understand some of the reasons but it's also slighty hypocritical to go on about how the demo by no means ready for public consumption via PSN and yet have the demo available 4 days straight at E For All but whatever. I'm sure we'll see a demo before the game's release, just not as soon as everyone was hoping for I guess.

I just got the new issue of PSM (or rather, Playstation: The Official Magazine) in today. They had a 4 page article on MGS4. Metal Gear Online is going to be included with MGS 4 when it comes out next year.

According to them, Multiplayer is going to have 16-player support for Deathmatch, King of the Hill, Team Deathmatch and Team Sneak. The starter pack will probably have 5 maps. There's going to be over 100 different weapons to acquire and use.
Schweeet! Good news and I'll be ready to tear shit up when it drops be it with fellow GFFers or not.

The game seems to have now on a media blackout according to the latest Kojima Productions report although there were some interesting details like the graphics being fine tuned and Snake's model being tweaked and so forth.

It seemed like there was some other announcement coming up given in the podcast before that Payton and co dropped hints to something going on before Christmas but wouldn't really divulge. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

That and an announcement this Thursday on the Kojima Productions Report thanks to Mark MacDonald winning a bet with Payton. Apparently Payton now has to go to Konami US and Europe to get clearance for the info so I'm thinking either release date with infos on different SKUS, LE sets etc or US/Euro release details for the 20th Anniversary set?

Don't hold your breath for a demo though as that shit ain't coming.

MGS4 Release Date: June 12th
PlayStation.Blog » Destination PlayStation News: MGS PS3 Bundle, Kratos PSP and DualShock3 Release Date
Quote:
To coincide with the much-anticipated North American launch of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots in late Q2 2008, SCEA will introduce a PS3 bundle, which will include an 80GB PS3, the upcoming blockbuster Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, and a DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller for $499.99 (MSRP).

As has been announced previously, MGS4 will include a Metal Gear Online “Starter Pack.” If you can’t wait to try out MGS4, the good news is you don’t have to much longer. Those who pre-order the game will be guaranteed access to a multiplayer beta test for Metal Gear Online scheduled for late April.
This week has started with epic and win so far with Sideshow telling me that Medicom's 12" Old Snake is shipping to me and now this. I could less about the bundle given I have the 60GB unit and I'll be buying the game anyway and ditto for the DS3.

The MGO Beta is icing on the cake but I'm holding off preordering until Konami announce the LE pack and then I'll snap that one up.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Not to downplay your announcement or anything, but where in that source does it confirm June 12th?

It just says late Q2, like every other source says.
Whoops, I probably should of linked where the original announcement came from. My bad.
MGS 4 Release Date announced at Destination Playstation - NeoGAF

The OP and thread originated long before the PR and PS blog was posted which is why most of the posts on the first page call for "bullshit" and "fake" until other press folk confirmed it was true.

Day and month was more than likely excluded from the PR due to that media for MGS4 is supposed to have a "re-emergence" that'll start with the release date from Konami themselves along with a flood of info leading up the game's release. Retailers now have the game up for preorder since the PR too including Amazon along with the release date of June 12th.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Yeah. Some random NeoGAF poster's "brother" isn't a source. Unless there's something farther down into that thread from someone recognizable, or a source with some official standing, I'm saying "no, fuck you". And I sure as fuck ain't gonna read a multi page thread on god damn NeoGAF of all places and hope I come across a valid link. So either drop one or edit your original statement.

Also, retailers have had June dates listed for some time, so no. That's not an official confirmation either. There's another thread where we were talking about this, (probably the PS3 thread) where we were discussing those dates too, they've been listed on various retailers for that time frame for a while now.

So uhh, try again chief.
I agree except this guy's "brother" was able slip the scoop about the MGS4 PS3 bundle. Dual Shock 3 coming in April with price and the God of War PSP 2 hours before anything official was released and was fucking spot on to boot so naturally there wasn't much reason to discredit the day and month for MGS4's release he provided.

Another source? Sure here's one but it's pretty much the same "we got an inside source at the conference who said...":
Playstation 3: Metal Gear Solid 4 Finally Has A Release Date

The new Famitsu confirms the 6/12 date apparently along with the details of the Limited Edition version of the game but getting scans of that and confirming the info is going to take some time (hopefully by the end of the night) and if all else fails then theres the Kojima Productions Report on Thursday.

Another source!

GameStop's also received an e-mail from our corporate offices about this.
Don't suppose theres anything about how this whole preorder/beta thing is planned to work out is there?

JPN Boxart(s):

Full scan:
Spoiler:

Sauce

Famitsu and Dengeki Playstation confirms 6/12/08 as the date to "Sneak Out". Versions available include the regular edition and the "Special Edition" which includes an extra Blu-Ray disc containing a "Making Of.." doc, trailers and more "extras" according to the article. Japan is also getting a PS3 bundle except it'll be the SE version of the game bundled with it.

So the sooner the SE gets announced for the US the better.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

Does that PS3 have a giant red ? stamped on it? I'll keep mine if that's the case.
Nay. According to the info underneath the photo the MGS4/PS3 bundle comes with an exclusive PS3 and won't be revealed until March 21st.

So it could either be the same as the US model albeit with the SE version of the game given Japan doesn't have the 80GB unit or it could be an MGS4 coloured/skinned console.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Hey Simo, just wanted to throw out there that I'm thankful you supplied a better source in the end. If only more people were so diligent. Thanks a ton.

I just really hope the exclusive PS3 in question isn't something that's stamped with a design, and instead it's something with a larger hard drive or a slightly different colour or something.
Don't worry about it man it's all good. Trust me, I was calling bullshit when I came across the news too and it didn't help that an ad supposebly from Famitsu announcing the 6/12 date got debunked last week and now this! In the end I posted the date and info just to get out for something to discuss and now that it's all official we finally have a date to fucking look forward to!

Oh yeah, bigger boxart sexay:

Marc over at the MGS: TUS translated some of the info in Dengeki Playstation that includes a message from Kojima to the fans and some info:
Quote:
Hello again, everyone. Sorry for staying silent so long.
MGS4's release date has finally been decided.
It will be released worldwide on June 12th.
We are currently making our final adjustments and polishing the game.
I and the rest of Kojima Productions feel your excitement.
Snake's final battle is almost here.

Hideo Kojima

Designer / Producer / Director
New Info:
  • Briefings:
You control Mk.II during the briefings, allowing you to adjust the camera (including a 4-angle split-screen and ability to turn the window off) and move around. You can also rewatch any of them from the title screen. In the picture on the left, he's ignoring the briefing and looking at what else is going on. He sees Sunny doing something. You can play different songs on the little stereo.
  • Special Edition disc contains all the trailers and some making-of videos
  • Website relaunches 2/29
  • Pricing for different versions and look of bundled PS3 will be released on 3/21
  • TGS '07 trailer will be uploaded to the Japanese PSN Store on 2/29

MGO:
  • Starter pack contains 5 maps, some new (some from previous titles, I'm assuming). Expansion packs add new characters and maps. Pricing and release schedule will be announced at a later date
  • New beta test is for Japan too. No need to pre-order, open to anyone 17 or older with a PS3 and online account. You can apply from 2/29 to 5/5, and it runs from 4/21 to 5/6

HAWT.

I'm assuming that by "Briefings" he means the Codec.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

i'm a bit confused on the MGO thing, is the starter pack bundled with MGS4 or do you have to buy that seperately and then download expansions, like some of the games on the PSN?

edit: i just answered my 2nd question
You pretty much get the full MGO experience when you buy MGS4. From there you'll be given the choice to pay for and download additional content like more maps. I'm not sure about a monthly fee but like others I sure hope there isn't one otherwise my time with MGO will be limited.

It's an open beta for the US as well and I'd also assume European PSN accounts would have access to it too. I'm glad the beta thing is cleared up and at least it's not just restricted to the US. I'd gather the new site will have a form up on Friday to apply for the beta and if it's a new site then it probably means we'll get some new media too...

Ah almost forgot, I was going to post this awhile ago but then GFF went down but March 18th might be the best time to get a refresher for MGS4 since that's when Konami will be releasing Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection:

Set includes:
  • Metal Gear Solid [PS1]
  • Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance [PS2]
  • Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence [PS2]

And all for 30 bones. Worth noting is that MGS is kind of a PS2 port meaning it'll be on one DVD-ROM and you won't have to bother with a PS1 memory card.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
