maskrider at Gaming-Age provided some direct captures from the game including the starting options menu and comparisons with the Flicker Filter option on and off:

Flicker Filter On

Flicker Filter Off

Screens..

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Huh? Not it isn't or at least it shouldn't be.

While FFXII takes place in Ivalice, the same name of the world in FFTactics and FFXI, all 3 are entirely different worlds and locations that just share some similarities and influences in design.

Yeah I got them confused because some compare FFXII to FFXI but really it's FFT/Advance that shares the world name and races, even though FFXII was in development before Tactics Advance it's just the latter title made it out the door first.

Troidal at GAF was kind enough to rip and upload 5 of the 11 tracks from 'The Best of Final Fantasy XII Original Soundtrack'. A great sampler for the real deal out on April 19th and instead of YSI it I've thrown it up on Tappy's FTP for now.

The 'Members' section on Square-Enix's official site has a few new wallpapers and 2 screensavers, 1 of which is an "Airship Gallery" featuring 10 airships named after summons in previous FF games that are in FFXII

I've attached them below but be warned since some of them haven't been seen before some might consider them a spoiler.

Eh, I'm crap at creating sigs but thankfully those "Avatar & Signature Requests" lot are pretty talented so I can't take credit for my current sig. Inhert was kind enough to make my signature and did a fine job at that.

Thanks to maskrider & BlimBlim at Gaming-Age we've got high quality downloadable versions of the Pre-Ppening FMV, Opening FMV and the first 6 minutes of gameplay. The direct links might not work so just go with the torrents:

I just don't see why use chocobos in a fight when you have flying machines with guns ... But I won't complain since the chocobos looked really cool in that armor.
Melee combat mostly, plus it looked like they were using Nephicite to create a barrier over the city to protect it from any air attacks.

Speaking of Chocobos, here's a short clip from Bebpo at Gaming-Age controlling a Chocobo. You also get a sample of the "Chocobo Theme" in the clip too:

Somebody mentioned 2 pages back that Penelo's Theme was originally an early track for FF Tactics that didn't make it into the game, so perhaps that's why it's familiar?

Somewhat true I suppose but there was also some "damage" to an extent considering between FFVII-X-2, FFIX had the lowest with sold units in the US with only 1.66 million copies sold compared to FFVII's 3.9 million, FFVIII's 2.34 million and FFX's 2.69 million copies. Even X-2 sold more copies in the US than FFIX.

I'd imagine FFXII would get hit harder given the hype and worldwide launch and limited numbers for the PS3 making it more sought after for the holidays. Besides how many casual gamers will really pick up a PS3 and go "Wicked, I got my PS3 so let me now put aside launch titles and get FFXII to really show off my system".

A summer launch would of been more beneficial for not only SE but gamer's wallets too.

Seems like you people really are aware of everything being posted out there, so I have a question.

I read some stuff posted on 2chan on the 13th and 14th about some possible big game spoilers, mainly stuff pertaining to the final boss and who/what that boss is, and how they tie into the story of course. In that thread, I also came across the possibility of
Spoiler:
a character dying.
I find it hard to believe that people would know all of this, considering the first FF12 torrent did not hit the web until the 14th (correct me if I am wrong, please). I would hope this information is just speculation, I really didn't want anything spoiled and came across the thread by accident. I do not know how these people could post all of that info, seeing as how the game wasn't even released yet, and pirated versions JUST hit the web as they were typing all of that...

Anyway, does anyone know if that discussion is false or just a bunch of speculation? It was titled "FF12 ultimate capture" or something weird like that.

And the game is coming out in November? I thought they said October. Damn. Oh well, we've waited long enough... what's the difference at this point, right?
The info is most likely correct if it's on 2ch. Despite a few stores breaking street date last week the Chinese release was also before the Japanese release of the game.

As for the November US release...I'm taking it with a grain of salt for now until a specific date is announced considering Wada said only last week in Famitsu FFXII would be released in the US during the summer and then sometime before the end of 2006 for Europe.

Craze: Right, but the posts I read were from the 13th and early hours of the 14th (Japanese time I would assume). Were pics of the boss out that early? BTW, I didn't read your spoiler, your info could be much different than mine and I don't want to know!

This might sound ridiculous, but I'm pissed. It sucks when you have waited like, what is it now, four or five years for a game and you already have at least one, possibly two big things spoiled.

That's what I get for being curious.
Well I could of told you to avoid 2ch if you don't want the game completely spoiled for you.

That place had all kinds of spoilers including the ending before the game was even officially released in Japan.

I've been avoiding all the plot spoilers but checking out the various impressions over at GAF which have all been overly positive about the game so far. One thing I'm glad about is how diverse the locations and landscapes sound like which is relief considering most of the screenshots released by Square show mainly nothing but desert plains.

I guess the real time weather effects/change actually managed to stay in the game despite early word of the feature being cut.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Well I'm not naming locations but there is a "snowy terrain" but the character's attie don't change or anything. In terms of the weather change though there are moments in the game, not a plot related location or anything just weather specifics...
Spoiler:
....where you'll visit an area or village as part of a Mob hunt with various locals mingling about only for it to later rain like a downpour and visiting that same area during then and you'll see that most of the NPCs have all gone inside their homes to avoid the rain. It's not scripted either to my knowledge and this applies to other areas too including the "snow" areas.

Quote:
A couple other things is how come, not only in FF games, but pretty much every other RPG game the monsters will ALWAYS team up against YOU; do they have some secret vendetta against your traveling party or something? You'll find the strangest combinations of like a Flim Flan teaming up with like a Bird or something which really don't have much in common, but the only thing on their agenda is to KILL YOU. I think this is why I generally enjoy fighting human like characters (seeing in the first few clips of FFXII) because you know the enemies have a reason to hunt your party down - this time probably because its a political difference in their system that they will wage war against your party. I read somewhere that in FFXII you can actually see monsters fighting other monsters since it's all real time. It'd be a real nice touch if this really did happen.
<Megalith-like>Can any one confirm this.
Yeah I recall seeing a video of monsters fighting other monsters and they'll not only gang up on you. Sometimes if one or more monsters see you then they'll chase after you and attack regardless of their species and sometimes it usually takes YOU to attack THEM before they make any kind of move.

Well the thanks to Johnnyram at GAF, the preliminary sales report from syoboonline reports that 1.3-1.4 million copies of FFXII were sold on day one and the number increased to 1.7-1.8 million over the weekend. That pretty much puts the sales on par with FFX but remember these numbers aren't confirmed so it could considerably higher or lower than those numbers.

Sup Simo.

Also, what order are the ratings in for Famitsu? Ie. Gameplay, music, controls, visuals etc. I'm curious because this will obviously help me understand reviews better with the Famitsu system of rating.
They don't break down the game like that but rather post their final impressions with each of them reflecting what stood out best. Like I said earlier though, Famitsu's reviews are pretty much worthless because of their review system and how how biased they are to some franchises that they'll rate others harshly. The magazine is so respected and popular however because of their news and exclusives that their reviews are primarily a "go to" source in Japan.

Sorry about that but maskrider never came back to me with the request. Also is it possible for you to refrain from putting location names in your sig for where you are in the game?

It'd probably be best for a seperate spoiler thread since some seem to be having trouble grasping how to use the spoiler code.....

Oh and according to GPara.com FFXII sold over 1.76 million copies in 3 days. Not a bad number at all especially considering how expensive it is in Japan.

No surprise their review for DoC didn't make press until 2 weeks after the game's release.

Impressions make it sound like Vaan isn't even the main or focal character for the story. Sure he's there to drive it along but he's not the lead like Tidus, Squall, Cloud and other past male leads.

Overall though I've heard nothing but great things about the story. No JRPG cliche plot point or revelation and all the characters being fleshed out and character interactions well written along with the plot. Somebody basically compared that aspect like the Fantasy version of Metal Gear Solid and as for being "Dark", well if you mean mature, gritty and serious then yeah that's all FFXII main plot is about.
