I partly disagree, as I've seen many people say the synth quality of FFVII horrible. Indeed, though Uematsu and some other staffs could use more than twice channels in the new platform (it allowed them to compose more cinematic music), they were forced to reduce the size of instruments data at the same time because of the loading time. When it comes to FFVII and FFVIII, it's only streamed tracks such as "Eyes on me" and "Liberi Fatali" that we can feel 'new sound technology'.
I don't disagree Uematsu was more
powerful in SNES era, but I prefer his PSX works to SNES and it's not because they have the new sound technology.
