I don't think Donkey Kong had any clones... but there were Captain Falcon and Fox McCloud clones, if memory serves correctly. And then characters with very subtle differences, like Marth/Roy, Pikachu/Pichu.
As far as new characters go, you guys know they haven't dropped all the names yet. They're going to have to save something for just prior to release to get the hype rolling again. Snake was used to get the initial hype going. It'd be pretty weird if he was the only non-Nintendo character in the game. Jam it back in, in the dark.

I'd be more than happy if they did away with clone characters, too, though. There's nowhere I can't reach.

It's quite possible that you won't see Sonic in the game just because SEGA might want too much in licensing fees for Nintendo to feel like it's worth it. Sonic is a megastar game character much in the vein of Mario, whereas some of the lesser-knowns from some third party developers might be more affordable (or free if the company needs some exposure).
It'd be cool if Sonic showed up, but I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't, either. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I really think there are enough notable characters from mario games being left out as it is... TOAD, Birdo, Shyguy most obviously.
Diddy Kong is conspicuously absent. Poo, Paula and Jeff from EarthBound. King Hippo from Punch Out! Eggplant Wizard to compliment Pit. Mike Jones from StarTropics. MIKE JONES, THE ONE AND ON'... Jill from Drill Dozer. Tin Star from Tin Star! (gasp) Nester (the Nintendo Power mascot) a.k.a. Lark from Pilotwings 64. And another cool option would be to let people use their Mii character as a fighter (with slightly more stylized graphics or something)... of course the moveset would be the same for every Mii, but they could look different depending on who was playing. I was speaking idiomatically.

The characters that they had in SSBM were all cool, it was just disappointing that they had duplicated movesets for a few of them.
Ganon and Falco are totally worthwhile of maintaining a spot on the roster, they just need movesets that are different from Captain Falcon and Fox. Pichu was probably the only character that wasn't necessary at all... we don't need two squishy yellow electric Pokemon. I think having Pikachu, Mewtwo and Jigglypuff is more than enough in terms of Pokes, but I wouldn't really mind having more so long as they have unique movesets. Maybe some other fan favorites like Lucario or Sneasel from the Diamond/Pearl games, or Golduck/Allakhazam/Machamp that have been around since the beginning. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Considering that Young Link has also been axed in favor of Wind Waker Link, it doesn't seem likely that there will be any OoT characters in this incarnation of Smash.

The issue i can see with an unmounted analog stick (nunchuck) is that it's easy to get your hands misaligned, so you think you're pushing the stick to the right, and really you're pushing it diagonally in a general rightwards direction. If the sensitivity doesn't account by giving this a buffer, you might end up jumping or ducking instead of doing a smash attack.
The only reason I bring this up is because I've noticed some inconsistency with using the nunchuck analog with other Wii games. For a game like Smash that's going to require some quicker-than-usual reaction time, having a traditional controller from the GameCube seems like the best idea to me. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Considering the plumes of smoke ... I'd say that hyper beam hits like a smash attack. And your character gets knocked accordingly to the amount of damage they've already sustained.
Jam it back in, in the dark.

Pretty sure it has something to do with the story mode. Like how all the characters in Smash are trophies when they're not fighting.
But Mario and Kirby don't want to be turned back in to trophies and so MetaKnight is coming to kick their asses because they're all like "viva la resistance!" There's nowhere I can't reach.

MEGATON: Toad is going to be a playable character!~~~~ He has his own sticker, this is evidence!

New Famitsu Scan shows Peach wielding Toad as her shield again... This might indirectly imply that Toad won't be a playable character.

I think I'm probably going to like the way that Diddy plays.
I mean... I tend to like the characters that people hate losing to. I played almost exclusively as Peach in SSBM, and Jigglypuff in SSB. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

That Sakurai mentioned Ness in his post about Lucas pretty much confirms for me that Ness will be back.

I think it'd be pretty sweet if they loaded the roster with more than just one Mother character though. Some Ness, Lucas, Starman, Bubble Monkey, New Age Retro Hippie and Carpainter action would be wicked cool.

Perhaps they're purposefully NOT revealing every single character in the game.
I mean, what fun would it be to not have any surprises? Most amazing jew boots
