Yeah, it says it, there was a new trailer shown along with the old one (with new scenes). Overall, I'm not really enthused. We've got another "chosen one" story, and what sounds like another religon in FFXIII.

Amazingly, FFvXIII is actually sounds more interesting at this point. A cold war? From previous info, an isolated city and a crystal being fought over.

And tech-fused monsters/summons can look good, but they often don't.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

They could be bringing a bag of Sun Chips and dip to mankind, as long as they're some "chosen one" it knocks the game down quite a few pegs for me. XII was a surprising breath of fresh air for the series, and now from what we know, it's going back to its regular self.

Also, don't expect that "doom" thing to last to the end, as a reversal will likely occur, revealing that it's actually the source of salvation/hope for the world.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Really? Chosen ones are that way from birth, ordained by the gods, fate, whatever the hell.
Spoiler:
She just happened to be part of Raithwall's bloodline. The royal family of Nabudis probably could've entered his tomb without problems because they're both descended from House Galtea.

The series has long followed your preference, it's one of the roots of complaints made of the Final Fantasy games. Let's leave the stale formula alone for at least another title or two, ok?

And it could end up as a ray of hope thing, though the fact they are pitching this as a bringer of doom thing, we might get something very different, perhaps something morbid or we in the end play the role of an inevitable villianess. Who knows at this point? I think this could be a fresh story personally, a darker path.
I agree this still holds quite a bit of potential and I'm looking forward to any sliver of information that leaks out, but it's not looking so great now.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Spoiler:

Anyone descended from Raithwall could open the places where he put his seal. This means anyone descended from House Galtea (all deceased 400 years before), House Dalmasca or House Nabradia (destroyed) could do this. This point was repeatedly brought up, and the information on the Houses can be found in the bestiary.

Of course, you could argue all that was orchestrated or "fated" so she would be the only one.

Spoiler:
Quote:
Ashe being a descendent of Raithwall's is exacily what made her a "chosen one" who was given a task by the supposed Gods themselves. So what if Rasler's family was part Raithwall's? They would be "chosen ones" too. There doesn't have to be just one. Besides later in game Ashe gets chosen by the Gods for specific task.
You're really stretching here, buddy. Suddenly, they're all the savior figure for the world because of relation? They made clear that the only reason why agreed to help Ashe was because they had dealt with one of her ancestors.

That's it. Had any other descendant gone there, they would've received the same treatment for the very same reason. Far from what we've got in FFXIII.

Quote:
Furthermore according to your criteria FFXIII's Main Character isn't a chosen since she does not meet those requirements aside for possibly "fate" (i.e being there at the wrong time), but Ashe does meet some of them, Also aside for FFI-V (a bit VI as well), and X (kinda) there been any "chosen ones", so it's hardly overused.
- You're chosen

That's all you need. We've got one where this is the case and another where it's not. That's all. Hopefully the series doesn't adopt the crutch of mediocre RPGs around simply because it hasn't abused it.

Quote:
Im not sure what this "formula" your going about is considering how different these games are from one another.
Are you being obtuse, or are you actually being serious here?

How ya doing, buddy?

Hmm, I think the Crystal is evil. Simplistic, no? Or, if not, leaning towards the dark. That idea sounds great Inhert. Maybe they pick more people and give them the power to destroy mankind (different element for each).

Her name/codename is Lightning, could it be related to the crystal's position in the sky and maybe the power it bestows?

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

FFX-2 was also different from FFX itself. If you're referring to anime like cliches, well, it only started in the PSX era, FF6 and before didnt have the anime character stuff in it. For me FF12 had a so so plot that bounced from political to man VS god and it wasn't focused, and the lack of character interaction also hurt this.
If it was man vs god, we would've been raped, thoroughly. Notice that no one so much as attempted to attack any of them after they stand in the way (example: Venat and... several scenes).

Characters weren't focused on because they were, well, meaningless on the grand scale of things. Rightly so, as the main point was to off the cat at the top and bring peace again. The only one that was somewhat important was the princess, and that was to for her to regain the throne. But enough about XII...

Quote:
The idea that we play a part in destroying mankind in FF13 (perhaps either for greater good like purifying the world or we're just plain evil) sounds intriguing and appealing to me. And the idea of a character not just summoning a summon, but BECOMING one makes it sound even more bad ass. Also love the idea of each character having a specific element in their power, makes it so each character HAS to be unique unlike FF7-12 (minus 9) which the only unique element is overdrives attacks.
You know, that's alternately good and bad about the summons. They might gimp them like they did in FFXII, which would render them completely useless or a liability. On the other hand, done right and without a damage limit (or at least, not the classic 9999) and with stats leaning in one direction or another would make them interesting.

Quote:
And her codename could be something the people gave her, she was using more gravity elements than Lightening in the trailer (and fire attacks too), so I think they gave her that name cause she's fast as lightening, which she was. She took down a whole group of soldiers in a few seconds!
Well, what if it not only does each person gain a summon/abilty to transform, but also a tendency to lean towards abilities/spells/stats that the summon (now part of them) likes. One example being Ifrit, could make someone Fire-element dominant, attack dominant and let them learn fire type skills earlier than others (or mainly/only fire type abilities).

This way, every character wouldbe useful. Notice, I didn't put in "elemental weakness" as many wouldn't like that. Or... would ya'll prefer to moderate characters like this?

How ya doing, buddy?

I just want character specific abilities to return. I'm tired of them being reduced to just limit breaks (FFVIII, FFXII) or customizable so anyone could use them (FFX).
Eh, I'm not so sure about that. People will just bitch about some characters' movesets sucking or they want more flexibility/customization.

I think they do something akin to FFT, where your character has their own unique moveset as well as a secondary set from a pool of jobs everyone can learn (and even then, certain abilities/jobs would be open to certain characters only).

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

What SE needs to do is offically state if PS3 has exclusive rights to FFXIII or not. It's probably the most talked about thing next to MGS4.
Well, why? It wouldn't surprise me if they've seriously considered yanking exclusivity and have it show up later on the 360 with extras (like XIII International, without the International part). That way they can still get the visuals and story they like, and tap into both userbases since the PS3 is floundering behind the other two.

And we all know SE is all about that money.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

they already said that FFXIII and FFvsXIII are ps3 exclusives. It's the 3 new project that they might go multi-platform (not the "might", because they still don't know)
Eh, these days anything goes. SE's already made it clear they'll be supporting all three consoles this gen. Nothing to get defensive about, they're just trying to maximize how much money they can make.

Damn, you're right about versus XIII looking much more interesting than FFXIII proper, Inhert. Hopefully it improves considerably in all areas, because that was underwhelming.

It was queer as fuck. A ridiculosuly brooding, apathetic-looking guy taking out armoured bad dudes while performing unnecessary acrobatics with opera music in the background, wow just wow.

Bwa-ha-ha, the trailer actually ends with him sitting in his lonely, depressing chair, deep in thought as to how better to convey his inner darkness -- red contact lenses, check; hair dyed gray, check; black combat boots, check; hmm, what to do next? Oh, it seems that it's time for a trip in my black futuromobile to Hot Topic to get some lip piercings!

Haha, oh lord.

Looking at the FFXIII trailer again, I'm wondering if they have the same folks doing the backdrops as they did in FFX.

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

Some new info on the game, folks.
Spoiler:

- Sazh's summon is called Brunhilde
- New party member is called Oerba Yun Fang
- She uses striped socks in bat- Spears, she uses spears
- Her summon is Bahamut
- She works for Sanctum

That's pretty much all that's been revealed in this scan. Thoughts?

Heh, we wish it went like that. Though from what I've heard, a retail price for FFXIII in Japan is equivalent to $100. Which is insane, though it'd probably make more of them want to get that FFXIII bundle that comes with a white PS3 Slim with Lightning on it.

Edit: BTW, that box art is probably just a placeholder. We already know what they'll get in Japan.

When you say 100 bucks, it better include that PS3 as well.
Unfortunately, it doesn't. FFXIII is launching at 8800 yen, which going by the converters I plugged that into, winds up being $98.51. Here's the coverage where the price was revealed. It's definitely super pricy for those who might want to import it.

Do I think it'll retail to anywhere near that here? No.

Quote:
Do want, do do do want. That white slim looks yummy. Even if it the graphics on the body is done with pink, it still looks good.
Except for me that doesn't justify to drop another 300-400 dollars.
Hopefully someone will buy it and give it away to me for free.
Heh, I'd love for someone to do that for me. It's a Slim with a 250GB HDD, and that spiffy paintjob.

Some of the worst handling of a product I've ever seen.
Wow, what a mess. I can see why folks who really want one would be livid right now, especially with that last line being oh so true. That said, V Jump has some scans showing Bahamut's vehicle form. Apparently it turns into a flying platform that Yun Fang rides. In one you can see it firing some sort of laser.

Also, in another one of the screenshots, her spear seems to have broken in two. What immediately comes to mind is Gabranth's spear that was actually two swords combined.
