Hope it's not a failure like Eirgheiz (however you spell it). If the play mechanics are good, it might be a decent buy, except that I'll never find another person with a PSP to play against. It would be better to come out on DS with Wifi.
That's easily solved by having this actually use some kind of infrastructure wifi rather than ad-hoc. Of course, this probably won't be the case.

Honestly, I'm kind of split with regards to this. It could turn out to be a good game or something awful, but we just have to wait for screens and more information/impressions on it.

Anyone else see where SE could take this? We could end up seeing a Dissidia for every other IP they have.

I think they already confirmed that there will be online wifi.
Really? Got some links and quotes, since that's great news if true. Especially if they actually follow through with it.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Well, scans are out now of Dissidia, FFIV DS, FFXII Zodiac job system and FF:CC Ring of Fates for the DS.

Behold!

Oh yeah, Nomura redesigned all those Amano characters. Just a warning to you fans of the old designs.

Personally, I'd love to see Amano's artwork brought to 3D. Maybe not IX (the game's ingame cast always looked goofy to me), but the sketches for FFVI were definitely nice enough to warrant consideration.
Well, I think we've gotten to the point where it's possible to do so. Okami is a good example of a game based on a style that looks like it might not translate very well, but it turned out very well.

The ancient PS2 managed the sumi-e visuals in that game, so one of these new fangled next gen machines could handle it with ease (as well as providing larger environments to work with).

That's scary...Okami was exactly the game I was thinking of when it came to Amano-like work in 3D. I can just tell from screenshots and such (since I haven't seen how it works in action).
It actually works very well. Sure there's some rought edges here and there, but the overall game was phenomenal. Most things in the game seem to be moving constantly, with some objects moving more than others. Oh, and the style lent itself to the creation of quirky/charming characters.

BTW, Okami apparently did ok over here. Apparently it was in Japan that it didn't do so hot.

The way the battles were described reminds me of KH2. There you had a similar setup where contextual commands would pop up for you to use, often going into a longer stream of inputs. Sounds interesting and definitely lends itself to some frenetic combat.

I'm curious as to what heroes they'll choose to put in, aside from the expected ones (Cloud, Squall, Tidus, etc). And who would they pick from FFVI and FFXII?

Just dropping in with the latest characters revealed to be in Dissidia, Tidus and Jecht (YOU BEEN EATIN' RIGHT BOY!?):

Large Scan:

Now, I know some people are getting nervous about folks from FFIV-VI being conspicuously absent but we'll just have to wait and see.

Why would they put Zack in? I thought Dissidia's whole shtick was the protagonists and antagonists from the first ten games in the series?

Anyway, one thing I noticed is that the color in the character portrait backgrounds seems to match the logo of said game.

Good evening folks, I'm just here to drop off the full reveals for Cefka and Tina.

Spoiler:

As expected, their "limit break" (the term used in Dissidia escapes me at the moment) are their alternate forms.

Spoiler:

And here's some more story/gameplay screens, and what looks like summons in the bottom left.

Spoiler:

Well, this is a pretty neat thing to wake up to. The last two from the regular roster have just shown up in some scans along with a spiffy new trailer. This one gives us a pretty good look at Cosmos and Chaos along with the last four revealed in scans.

Warning: Large Image:

And here's the trailer (looks to be the last or second last one before it's released):
This one is either going to please or enrage the Cefka and Tina fans out there.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Thanks for the sweet info, Jagged. Looking over that there aren't any real surprises, Kefka got an EX Burst attack based on the goddesses as expected, Sephiroth is basically the same as in Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2, Onion Knight confirmed the belief that he was going to be an aerial fighter, etc...

WolfDemon, IIRC, Kefka and Terra have always been Cefka and Tina in Japan.

That art of the Warriors of Chaos (and the other one with the Warriors of Cosmos) is almost a year old by now. Only thing that came to mind was his front and center position on there.

BTW, anyone noticed the character styles and how the matching protagonists and antagonists have... issues if they ever went head to head? Like Ultimecia's strengths being in staying at a distance and spamming magic while Squall is a close range fighter.

Here's the special OST that comes with that bundle that they're selling in Japan:

The other side of the OST, and a few more shots:

Well, it looks like the guys who got the site data way back then were right when they pointed out the FFXI and FFXII pages. Looks like Shantotto is in Dissidia.

Mechanical google translation of the info on her

Heh, Shonos got the message in first.

Secret character? Most likely, but I still think she'll wind up on the Cosmos side and have a counterpart on the Chaos side. We've seen quite a few screens with characters on the same side duking it out, and one of the more recent scans shows a good guy's board... with a Cosmos boss piece.

Just my two cents, they'll probably keep the theme running even through the secret characters.

Well, there's been tons of updates. It seems like the game's got something like 22 characters thanks to that one Dissidia guide's slip up. Then there's Nomura in that huge Famitsu interview responding in the affirmative when asked on whether a FFXII character would be in the game.

On top of all that on the 15th there's so japanese gaming show that'll have some secret thing air on there.

My guess? The final character is the secret character for the Chaos side, equalizing both sides' numbers. If they choose a character as kooky as Shantotto, it could easily be Dr. Cid.

Well, in that LiveJournal link that was posted, apparently the guide to game says there's 22 in the roster. That leaves 1 character left and in the latest scan, Nomura basically confirms it's an FFXII character.

I'll second Dark Nation's choice, he's similar to Shantotto in that he's... eccentric and seemingly does his own thing.

How ya doing, buddy?

Hmm, I don't know. They realized Prishe was a more popular and fitting choice, but put Shantotto in because it would be fun to play as a Taru.

Similar reasoning, if carried through to the FFXII choice, would lead us to something other than Gabranth. With that said, here's this week's Famitsu scan showing Nomura's Chaos and Cosmos drawings.

Hey, folks. Game Center CX just unveiled the final trailer to Dissidia. It's fantastic seeing all the characters in action in this one, and the secret was just as awesome.

Here's the trailer (Nicovideo)

The folks over on the chaoticcosmos livejournal have the trailer available for download too: Chaotic Cosmos

Here's the secret character:

Spoiler:
Yup, it was a predictable choice so not many people have been disappointed. It's pretty much confirmed it's Gabranth, since they seem to have called him back to reprise his role as Gabranth's VA (Akio Ohtsuka). Same guy who does Snake's voice in Japan, including Brawl.

Makes me wonder what his Ex-Mode and Burst are. I can see the mode being the two blades apart (or together, depending on what's their regular state) and the burst being Innocence or Circle of Judgement

He probably meant like what they did with FFXII, MGS4, Wind Waker, etc... Famitsu's reviews raise the question of whether they were paid for much more often than the other rags.

Jagged, those rankings aren't based on ease of use. Just reading them it's just the reviewer's opinions on the characters (for example, look at the near-squeals of fanboyism for Kefka and Sephiroth influencing the score). It was closer to a popularity contest than anything else.

Yup, IIRC there was an incident a while back where Square-Enix pulled its ads and games from Famitsu and the magazine suffered. I forgot what the trigger was, but it's an example of how much sway they've got over them.

Well, now we wait and see if they'll have a scan for this last character.
