i don't care so much about no digital audio... but i want component cables! i hope that either 1) they are in stores, or 2) you can buy them BEFORE the console releases. people who say "you can't tell the difference between component and composite unless you're a videophile" clearly are not thinking of large displays - i have a projector capable of progressive scan, and i have friends who don't care about video quality who whine about how "pixelly" it looks when it's in component-interlaced-scan mode or composite/svideo. component/progressive scan makes a HUGE difference... and oddly enough, RE4 doesn't look super-good with it due to the fact that it's letterboxed, but whatever, i still want my wii with component cables... i don't want to suffer through muddy, blurry, pixellated crap for two weeks waiting for some cables to arrive.
it would have been nice to have the same AV ports that the SNES, N64, and Gamecube had, but apparently they changed it ![]() Jam it back in, in the dark. |
![]() ![]() (my camera did a piss-poor job of focusing but there still is a difference). seriously, the projector's screen is something like 57 inches, and the couch is 5ish feet away from it, so you can see small details a lot, even if you're not a hardcore videophile. edit: huge pictures resized, i keep forgetting that i have a high monitor res There's nowhere I can't reach.

i just got a sega genesis two weeks ago. it had ONLY the RF attachment (this is a genesis-2). i have a very nice VCR with all sorts of nice connection options, but sega games still look like absolute shit on my projector-- the NES looks better/clearer by far, and there is no bleeding on it. why? because the NES is going through composite, and thanks to a kickass filter on my projector, it looks decent enough. the rf cable though... looks terrible. anything on a blue background looks terrible - whether it's sonic on a blue sky, raiden shooting lightning in mortal kombat.... and ecco is downright unplayable. i really really want to get some composite cables for this thing! How ya doing, buddy? |
I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
well you're not taking into account archetectural differences. the wii's power-based processor running at nearly the same clock speed as the xbox's p3/celerized-derivative will probably be more efficient in some areas and less so in others.
also the gamecube's memory was insanely efficient with bandwidth and latency, and i can't see why the wii would forego this idea. i'm guessing that we're going to see a fairly fast machine due to lots of efficiency. the xbox360 and ps3 (moreso the ps3) are all about raw power. .......this assumes the cpu is really 729mhz, which is made "believable" with the rumored specs since the gpu supposedly is running at 243mhz (243 "bus speed" * 3 multiplier like GCN would be 729). this really doesn't mean anything though since it could all be fake, etc. even if nintendo doesn't release specs of the system, you know some site like anandtech will take it apart and try to find out anyway. I was speaking idiomatically. |
