WTF You mean this is VGM?

We've had plenty of threads on here about introducing others to VGM and about what songs could "trick" people into listening without realizing the track is from a game, but what I'd like to know is: has anyone here ever been tricked in such a fashion?

We're (for the most part) all seasoned VGM listeners, and have all learned what certain characteristics the vast majority of game tracks have in common, be it musical motifs, looping, patterns of complexity, etc.

Has anyone ever been listening to some song or another at a friend's house (or anywhere else), found out that it was a VGM track, and been truly surprised at the truth?

Happened to me once in a game store during the Halomania 2001-2002 era when Halo was the only game in existence and Halo was saving the human race from the plague of bad video games (which means every video game ever released before Halo which is true because Megalith said so) even though it was the only video game ever released anyway and it doesn't have to make sense because it's Halo...*deep breath*...Anyway, the game store was playing the Halo soundtrack over the PA system and at first I thought it was some kind of film score or neo-classical album. I asked the guy behind the counter and FOMG GAEM SOUNDTRACK.

I shouldn't have been as surprised as I was, considering that it would stand to reason for a game soundtrack to be played in a game store, but for whatever reason...shockage.

Anyone else have this happen?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

It is not my custom to go where I am not invited.
