You have to admit, WD's work is at least...unique. It would be unlikely for another company to both attempt and capture a similar style and be successful with it. There's no telling if it would be good or bad at this early point, but in the case of some nostalgia faggots, different already is bad, so.

I think there's potential there, yeah, but like GB said, the original source material would need some serious sprucing up to be as engaging as it was thanks to WD. Alex is not at all an interesting hero no matter what way you slice it, so here's hoping they do something interesting with it.

And I didn't mean to imply you thought that way, just that some people strongly attached to the WD original translation might. (As much as I love 'em, I want to see what can be done via another take here.)

I'm gonna go play SSSC now out of sheer rage....
What? Why? It's pretty obvious Gaijin Works wasn't tapped for this, and Vic has even made statements several weeks ago regarding how he offered his assistance but was not taken up on it.

This has been known for a while. While a shame, the essence of the story remains intact. And as long as it's not full of grammatical errors, it should still be fine. Minus the pop culture references, I guess.

That said, WA5's translation wasn't all that terrible (comparitively to other middle budget PS2 jRPGs) so I don't think it'll outright blow, at least.

How ya doing, buddy?

The PS1 games were way more polished, but the Sega CD games were far less broken storywise for me (could be just nostalgia talking, but still).
At least in the case of Silver Star, you're not wrong. Luna is a far more interesting character when she knows what is going on rather than being a quasi amnesiac, and it makes her choices a bit more poignant that way.

Apparently there's a whole other scenario they're adding, yeah, that let's you play as the four heroes. No idea on length or meatiness of that segment, though.

They're also saying "new bromides", as if people still get their rocks off to pictures of Mia or something.

I was speaking idiomatically.

"Definitive" eh. Big claims.

I appreciate the soundtrack, once again, but those cards are a goofy bonus.

(Who the fuck am I kidding, I'm buying it anyway)

You'll get no argument from me.

It could come with only a free kick in the junk and I'd still throw out the extra 10'r for it.

Also I found out there's a reason the singer sounds like Jennifer Stigile... it is. Apparently XSEED had contacted the original voice actors to reprise their roles but they turned it down out of respect for Vic. Well except for Jenny lol. But hey, a paycheck's a paycheck.
This is somewhat backwards.

Vic was messing in his pants because he was not dealing with this release, and basically said "you got all of us or you got none of us", and because he holds sway with them still, that has more to do with why they didn't take it than anything.

There was really no "out of respect" here. And using Vic's own words, Jennifer "broke rank". Like they're some sort of union and she's a scab or something.

Vic is shitting himself sideways over this release. Watching him post on NeoGAF is an amazing experience. It's a whiny bitchfest the likes of which are hard to explain. He's condemning it to the level of Lunar Legend and Dragon Song and whatnot just on the basis that he's not working on it, conveniently ignoring that this demo proves that SHIT IS JUST FINE. The game can take a slightly different tone and still come out alright.

His reactions to this version have been really God damn bizarre.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Is anyone playing this on custom firmware? The demo hated the latest GEN, and I figure this is going to as well.

These load times are killing me. Off the disc they are significantly worse than in the demo, and even something so minor as pausing the music for 7 seconds every time you go from one town screen to the next is just driving me bonkers. Combine that with the shortened dungeons and way easier enemies and I'm having far less fun than I should.

Translation is fine, music and gameplay are fine, but between the excruciating loads and the lack of challenge, I'm just not interested in finishing this at all.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
