What would you guys think of a trading thread?

I had one of these back in....oh, 2003 I think? 04 maybe? It was used only a couple of times, but I do remember participating and so forth. As for WHAT I bought...fuck, I can't remember.

Anyway, it was a thread where we trade, buy, or sell the vidya amongst ourselves. Someone's looking to ditch XYZ? Looking to buy ABC? List it, or request it.

Of course, you're gonna want SOME sort of proof you're trustworthy, so we'll keep track in the thread of how many people have dealt with whoever and if they're good or not. Also, an eBay history or something similar would be great if we don't know you, or if you're new, or an idiot, or something of that nature. Case by case and such.

Anyway, this is sort of an idea thread, and I'm basically throwing it out there to see if anyone is at all interested.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I'd probably get more worth from trading or selling a game to someone on here rather than getting $1 from Gamestop (their trade-in prices are terrible, especially on older games). Even if it's not the best deal, at least I'd be helping out a fellow member rather than those greedy bastards. So in other words, yeah, I'm up for it as well.
That's partly what I was thinking. We seem to have more people these days who cycle through collections rather than hoard, and it'd be a definite improvement for them to sell/trade here, sans eBay fees and all that BS, for a slightly better price.

DN, it would be for buying/selling/whatnot. Think CAG's trading, only on a much more infinitesimal scale.

Seems like more yes answers faster than I thought we'd get, so seems like it's a worthwhile thing to try. Anyone have any ideas on how we could best run it, other than what I thought up?

Additional Spam:
I'd do it, but... I'm new, no one knows me, and I have no Ebay history. Aw...

I wouldn't really trade anything, though, just buy stuff.
An advantage to buying only is that whoever is the seller won't have to ship until payment is received. The issue lies more with people saying "PIPING HOT SUIKODEN II FOR SALE SIXTY BUCKS" then someone paypals them and they run off.

Well, didn't take very long before some idiot came in and misinterpreted the point.

I was thinking that WTB posts would be just as viable as WTS posts. Combine them, have a wishlist, or whatever, it's all good.

I'll make up a proper, full blown thread later.

I can't really participate in this unless the people I'm dealing with have modded consoles, Swap Magic, or if I have games from their region, so making it a requirement to describe what you're selling with what format it is (NTSC U, PAL, NTSC J) or region free games would be a must. Also whether it's scratched or whatever, you know the deal. 'd imagine there's a lot of people here with pretty much immaculate games but there's also a bunch of people here who will buy any shit game that's under $20 because it's under $20. We don't want any :< from buyers if their seller incorrectly described something.

I can't really sell stuff because people probably aren't interested in paying for international shipping (it's something like $11.50us per game) but trading might be fun, since both ends are shipping and covering the cost like that. It seems like a good idea.
I don't really want to make rules for or against anything like that, but a description, and an accurate one, is a requirement. Good point.

And selling should be negotiable. How much do you want to pay for the whole thing shipped, etc.

Additional Spam:
SomethingAwful's market does stuff like "must be a member for seven months". In order to sell here, is there going to be a certain requirement?

Here's my main concern -- some random douchebags coming in here and fucking someone over. SA's $5 charge (albeit small) in addition to the seven month wait prior to selling stuff is enough to stop fucktards quite often, but I'm curious what work-around we could do here. Personally, I'd only do business (trade, sell, buy) with familiar faces. I suppose that's going to be the bottom line =o
Obviously it's up to a person to trust another fellow, no one is forcing anything. I figure an eBay history or some similar history on any other trading site will help convince people if we don't know you personally already.

I was speaking idiomatically.
