Looks like the game will be released in three versions. Standard, Collector's, and something called LEGENDARY EDITION.

Apparently, preordering such a beast gets you a mini helmet replica! Neato.

The LEGENDARY EDITION contains 3 bonus DVDs that include:

# Behind-the-scenes at Bungie Studios with new insights into the Halo Universe and the making of Halo 3.
# A special hi-res collection of all cinematics from Halo 1 and Halo 2 with director commentary from the Bungie Team bonus
# Community content from Red vs. Blue, This Spartan Life and Exclusive Gamer Tiles & a Theme
# Each unit will be serialized for added individuality and collectability. Not life-size.

Of course, there is no info on the Collector's Eidtion, but the LEGENDARY EDITION has these features. I assume the Collector's one will be missing a bonus DVD or 2 and won't have the helmet.

A shame the helmet isn't life size.

OH MY BAD I TOTALLY MEANT PROGRESSIVE SCAN PAPER.

But to use it you need to hook up your fancy new printer with those expensive Monster Cable brand Component or HDPI (High Definition Printer Interface) cables, and those are almost as expensive as the paper itself.

Shield grenade.

Basically it looks like it creates in an invincible shield for a fraction of a second. A very neat idea.

Also worth speculating is that the big X button thing is a sprint. If it worked like the Roadie Run in Gears, that'd be pretty sweet. (IE, you can't really turn very sharply, you can't shoot while doing it, etc.)

Talk to your buddy at Office Depot (everyone has one whether you know it or not) and have him shrink wrap it at the UPS center in store. Take said shrink wrapped game back to Wal-Mart. Since you dont have a receipt they will give you store credit, but atleast you can get another game you like instead of keeping said game.

Stores and participation may very.
Here's an easier trick.

Buy it from EB or some store that takes back unopened stuff. Open it, take the beta sheet out. Take the open thing to Walmart, say you bought it there but lost the receipt, get an exchange for a new sealed one. Take the sealed one back to the store of purchase.

Doesn't involve any purchase of any game at that point. Not that your method won't work or nothin' but yeah.

Actually there is no beta 'sheet' so to speak, the game CD itself will interact with Xbox live to gain you access to the beta. So once you have used the disc and gained access to the beta thats it; the next poor soul to come across your game disc will be short changed.
Gotcha, I thought there was going to be an insert with a code on it that you'd redeem. My bad.

It'll still work though.

Audio Request thread in which it's attached.

Don't expect mega quailty though. It's an iTunes release. Gorgeous track though. Can't wait for the final OST, and I hope this is on there. Otherwise SADNESS.

Beta has a date now, folks, just so you know. 5/16 to 6/06.

I'm really not sure how much this will excite anyone, but there's an ARG up, ala ilovebees from last time. While I really dig this sort of thing, their appeal seems limited and I'm not sure if anyone else here enjoys them.

I just read about this from Penny-Arcade, so I just started. Here's your requisite URLs to start.

http://206.16.223.65/
http://societyoftheancients.com/

All I've got so far is the Array Recorder Log from the first URL. If anyone wants to discuss/work on this, feel free to PM to avoid potentially cluttering up the thread.

I was speaking idiomatically.

That list of achievements looks a lot like why so many Battlefield 2 games were shit. You just know there's going to be a load of kids trying to earn achievements with their friends by jacking each other in and out of vehicles and stuff like that, rather than actually playing the game. The continued emphasis on achievement points and rankings pisses me off a bit really. What ever happened to playing games for the fun of it?
Over 900 of the 1000 potential points can be earned in the campaign. While the other online only achievements are somewhat trivial, what hurts them is the "Only available on ranked" requirements. That can mess up some ranked games, but with Halo being the kind of game it is, I don't think we'll see it further ruin what is already a really stupid general community.

Quote:
On a similar note, I hope they make the ranking points penalties for dropping out of games a lot more severe than for losing them so people won't all quit if they're on the losing team in round four of an assault match.
There's two types of rank points this time around. On ranked matches, there's skill points, which works like Trueskill in any other 360 game. This goes up or down depending on how well you do or how badly you lose and if you quit, and so forth and so on.

There's also Rank Points, which only go up a point if you win, or stay the same if you lose. (I think in the beta if you came in second on a free for all you got like, half a point's credit or so. Can't confirm this though). The only way these go down is if you quit a game early, and then you'll be docked one point. These points are what contributes to your military rank. Private/Sarge/etc. Luckily, this is what the achievement is based on, not your trueskill number. So it's obtainable by anyone, pretty much.

This is, of course, based off of the beta so it could change.

Oh, shit.

So let's see. This confirms a fair bit.

- Instead of just video clips, you can pull a Forza 2 and upload screenshots. Fucking awesome. <3
- There's more X button placeables. Includes a jammer, which screws with the radar.
- Brute chopper pics. Apparently great for smashing people.
- There's info on a variety of new maps, like Shrine, Epitaph, and the remake of Zanzibar, called Last Resort. There's also plenty of "unannounced maps".
- And my favorite, customizable armor/helmets. Look at some of the screens. Different MJOLNIR armour variants like the Mark IV are seen. Hopefully even further customization is possible, but we'll see, this is a great start and I like it.

HOW DID YOU KNOW THAT WAS MY PLAN? >__________>

Honestly, though, I can't imagine them giving you total control over decal placement ala Armored Core or Chromehounds, or painting like Forza, it seems more like it's just gonna be some mixing and matching of suit parts, like...uhhh...Bomberman or something.

Unless they have a suit with giant round shoes, a straight body, and a purple helmet, my MASTER DICK Spartan might not be possible.

Where'd you hear that? I have a hard time believing EB's gonna stop taking pre-orders on what's gonna be one of their largest sellers this Christmas.

Unless you mean on the Legendary and CE sets? That's a bit more plausible but still not something I've heard. They tend to let each store take a certain allotment of units and they take orders until that's tapped out.

The mountains are supposedly real geometry. Both Bungie themselves have said this, as well as the far away mountains in the Beta stage Valhalla could be reached after bugging past the invisible wall, and they were solid, so I don't think they'd be lying.

Also, just because that's in-engine, Paco, doesn't mean that's what the final game will look like in SP mode. Could be a cut scene snapshot or something similar. The final will pretty much not look like that. It's just a bullshot, but that's not entirely a bad thing.

Remember how the Gears of War commercials were entirely produced in-engine? I'm willing to bet it's the same deal here.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Of course they say otherwise.

I wouldn't doubt if this is a screen from a replay mode or a cutscene or something similar. Many games lower frame rates and increase geometry detail and texture quality for modes like that where a constantly high frame rate isn't important.

It's simply *not* going to look like that when you're actually playing. I'll eat my fucking hat if it does, because that looks about 500 times nicer than anything in ANY OTHER SCREENSHOT we've seen.

You're right! How could I be so blind as to assume that the beta in which I partook was in any way a representation of the final product? Man, I enjoyed that beta, but all the fun I had is moot. I have garnered no information as to how this game will play, at all! Nope, none. Why, after the beta was done, they probably threw out the entire project and started coding again from scratch. Nothing will be at all similar, nope.

Crunchy, you wanna know why we don't use this thread? Motherfucking rocket scientists like this kid here.

To assume that the public play-test didn't add to the hype surrounding this title is quite stupid. Tell me, oh smart one, what promotional materials and methods do create positive hype for a product, and which do not.

Protip: I actually might not have bought the final game if I didn't play the beta. I really didn't like H2 at all, y'know.
