It's cool that Europe gets the game around the same time Japan does. I originally thought this meant that the US version would be released months and not weeks later, so it's also cool to see that in the end Europe still has it bad when it comes to releases.

Feeling kind of apprehensive about the character selection. I'm absolutely not a fan of baby characters, so I don't really fancy the idea of having them take up a large portion of the roster (I never played Double Dash). Aside from that, the game looks to be a lot of fun.

I'll probably end up using the wheel due to not having a classic or a GCN controller.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Wow, sure sucks that Nintendo is trying to get people to use the controllers that actually come with the console and all.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I skipped the GCN generation of Mario Kart, so I'm a bit out of practice. Needless to say, there's a lot to get used to with Mario Kart Wii...

I don't seem to remember there being such a big emphasis on stage hazards. First thing I could think of when I started the 50cc races was "WTF THAT'S BS" at all the various crap on the stages. Really hate how hitting any sort of wall or obstacle at all kills your speed completely. Then there's that fraggin' AI. Every single race, there's a lightning bolt, blue shell, ink blot and pow block without fail. I don't even get any of that stuff when I get booted to 12th, but oh well.

Wii wheel is kind of fun to use, though I don't think I'll be using it for "serious" races. When I play games my right hand is usually a bit lower than my left, so I'm constantly shifting to the right. The strap is also a little uncomfortable, as you kind of have to grasp the wheel AND the strap at the same time.

So far I'm having a serious nostalgia hit for Mario Kart 64, but as I get used to MKW I suppose my opinion of the game will rise.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

In previous Mario Karts, unless you hit a wall perfectly dead on it wouldn't result in a total loss of speed. More often than not, you just ricochet off the obstacle or bounce backwards a bit before continuing forwards. The change in Mario Kart Wii, coupled with supreme AI item gangbanging, can be pretty frustrating late in a race.

But hey, I guess we can't all be VIDEO GAME PRODIGIES.

EDIT: Took the liberty of making a wiki page for MKWii FCs. I only put in a handful of FCs, so someone else can dump in the rest if they'd like.

Guess I should also mention the usual "PM me if you add me so I know to add you back" bit here.

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

Been a while since I played a game that actually made me frustrated. Mario Kart Wii has something special going on for it.

I guess my frustrations could be lessened if I just stopped using the Wheel, but since the game came packaged with it I feel inclined to use the friggin' thing for a while, at least until I beat a couple more GPs. Unfortunately, controlling a bike with the wheel can be pretty nuts, even more if you're constantly doing tricks. The game manuals says you only need to tilt the wheel up to do a trick, but it's more like you have to violently jerk the thing to get it to register, which in turn affects the bike's sensitive steering. Blurgh.

Haven't played online at all, but I'll check it out more when I manage to clear more GPs (or when I snap the wheel in half).

I was speaking idiomatically.

There's nothing special about getting the golden wheel. I got it after 3 or 4 races on WFC (my wheel usage offline is 100%), and it's not like I'm good at the game or anything... Anyone can get the wheel after enough time, which kind of dilutes the specialness.

Sitting at a very average 5300 or so VR right now. WFC is pretty fun since there really is a wide range of skill, easily displayed on a course like Rainbow Road where more than 30 seconds can pass after the 1st place racer finishes (thus ending the race prematurely).

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Also, good luck trying to do that with a wheel. If your arms are not completely parallel to the ground, you'll end up hopping into a drift, ramming into a wall and destroying your ranking along with your self-esteem.

@Sacred X and whoever else: Really kind of busy this week with some projects, but I'll try to get everyone else added by the end of the weekend so you aren't faced with a permanent "?" on your FC list.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

For Wii, it's generally channel 1 or 11.

AFAIK you can simply edit the Mii on your existing license. When I first started, I used my (meaning my real name and all that) Mii on the license. Decided I'd rather have a net-friendly Mii name show up, so I simply changed the Mii I was using in the license setting.

It's pretty dumb you can't just edit the name on your license, especially given how Nintendo is all WATCH OUT FOR ONLINE SECURITY. But still, you shouldn't need to do anything as drastic as recreating the whole thing.

How ya doing, buddy?

After some insanely long delay I've gone and added everyone on the wiki to my FC list. If you've added me before and I never got back to you, I apologize for that. It can be difficult to get Wii time (it's hooked up to the main TV everyone uses) so I sometimes just go long periods without turning the thing on. So... yeah.

I do already have a couple of you on my list, though, so hopefully we can get some races in sometime.
