I'm trying not to really browse this thread until I feel I've worked my way through most of Brawl, so if you want to add me please send me a message or something.

More or less unlocked everyone (sans Wolf) which was the only sensitive info I cared about, so I figure I'll take myself off this self-imposed Brawl info blackout. Hurrah.

Spent most of my Brawl time so far on SSE (I think my play time was 8 hours something) and a couple of events (1-20) and stadium activities. Still haven't played a single Brawl yet, but I have next week off so I hope I'll get some Wi-fi play in starting this weekend. No clue how my connection will be, but I hope it'll be sufficient for regional matchups at least.

I thought the game would be awkward to control since I don't have a GCN controller, but the Wiimote+nunchuk combination is actually pretty comfortable except for the fact that my right hand fingers start getting sore after a while. It's a bit annoying having to change the player name each time because I adjusted the controls, but that's a small inconvenience for wireless + rumble capability.

How ya doing, buddy?

Added myself to the wiki since it seems when I posted my code it got lost among the other posts. Let me know if you add me so I can add you back.

Spectator mode is fun to watch when I'm taking a break or eating. I don't think the quality of play (or coins earned via betting) is really that great, but all I need it for is a distraction.

Stickers only work in SSE.

It would be kind of crazy if they worked in regular brawls, though it would've been interesting if there were a "Sticker Mode" or something.

Wii Remote + Nunchuck:

Surprisingly good actually. I'd recommend this one if you absolutely cannot get a Gamecube controller. The analog stick is precise and both A and B are easily reachable. Again you'll have to get used to grab/throw (which is A + B, not too hard) and shield/roll/dodge (which is mapped to Z, or the Left Trigger. I think Left trigger was dodge on the gamecube controller too, but I always used the right trigger, so it's unnatural to me.) Otherwise, a solid choice.

Remember that it's possible to remap the controls as well, so you can always configure it to what's most comfortable for you.

For example (I use wiimote + nunchuk), I have problems jumping by pressing the analog stick up so I set jump to down on the wiimote's d-pad. Grab was changed to z on the nunchuk, etc. Shield as the C button on the nunchuk is entirely intuitive (same feel as the N64 controller), so yeah. Only thing I had to get adjusted to was using B attacks with my index finger...

I was speaking idiomatically.

Just played my first online matches with some folks, and man is my lag amazingly bad. It was a constant 0.5 seconds or so of lag. The opening intros ran like molasses, and whenever I got knocked off the stage it was pretty much a gamble to see whether or not the inputs would get recognized in time for me to jump back on.

Even considering my abysmal record (I think it was 3 wins or so out of 24 games... most in last place) playing with other folks is definitely fun.

My Wii is hooked up via wireless, and I get a sizable amount of lag when playing people CST/EST (though it may have to do with my connection sucking in general). Still, I'm trying to get the best connection possible so here's what I've done so far: assigned the Wii a static IP, made it the DMZ, set the broadcast channel on the router to either 1 or 11, and updated the router's firmware.

My question is: Is there a list of ports that should be forwarded to make the Wii's connection even better? I think I read a string of ports in that GFAQs thread linked earlier in here, but it was kind of a mess of numbers and I didn't really trust it too much. Perhaps someone here has a better list with an explanation of the process to boot?

Just to confirm, doing a Team Multi Man Melee on wifi doesn't count towards breaking the challenge wall, right?

I did a 100-man melee with Snow the other day expecting to clear that particular challenge, but nothing ended up happening.

I think the clan/team idea is interesting, but I dunno so much about forced no items. I feel that should be left up to the discretion of the people doing the brawling, really...

I mean, we're not smashboards here. :/

GFF isn't Smashboards, so I think adhering to their set of rules is kind of ridic. But anyway...

New Pork City is missing from that list (I think). I imagine they'd want to ban that one too, though, on account of being GINORMOUS.

One method I read about (but have not tested or seen demonstrated) is using Jigglypuff and just floating underneath the stage from one end to the other. Apparently, sometimes the alloy AI is dumb enough to try and pursue you but they end up suiciding that way. Takes some time and patience (and luck?) but it's worth a try. Maybe.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Too bad you can't use the hammers on stuff that's really likely to make you want to murder something (boss battles on intense, etc).

I used to like seeing the new character updates on that pixel art, but I stopped paying attention after Japan got its release so that I wouldn't get spoiled. Now that I know all the characters though, I don't remember where that art was. Can someone give me a link to it?

I think it depends on who you play with, and what resources you have at your disposal. If you play your buddies online near a phone or a computer, you can easily hammer out a few words to them in between matches. Not as good as actual physical interaction, but in some cases (long-distance friends) it's great.

In regards to your second idea, you should probably look at the existing Brawl tournament thread.

There isn't any actual benefit to doing stuff like multi man melee on co-op is there? Aside from a personal record, that is.

I like Hannenbow, though I don't play on it much (doesn't seem to pop up in Random much). I guess it's not really the best stage for action, but I love the design. Seems like a lot of folks hate that you can't change music on it, but I dig the hannenbows bouncing off leaves.

I raged at the black screen with nothing but lyrics pasted on it. After all those cutscenes, that's all they could come up with?

Does anybody else use/like to use any other combination outside of the GCN controller? Just curious.
I don't own a GCN controller or a classic controller, so I use the Wiimote + nunchuk with a bit of remapping. I switched down on the d-pad (does anybody even like tilt jumping) to jump and c to grab. I rarely use the other directions on the d-pad, but they're currently set to smash attacks.

SSE was fun, though I miss some of the aspects of the earlier games. Mainly, the random stages where you race across the stage. I guess with Sonic being in the game, they felt there might not have been any need for displays of speediness.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
