No random encounters pissed me off a first, but then I realized I didn't have the equipment to learn any new skills. And that I couldn't find any recipes for Rods, so my mages are woefully weak compared to my physical fighters.
Final Fantasy Tactics was a game that when people asked you about it, you could sit down and explain it to them and sell them on it. Its not a perfect game but I'll say its one of the very few PSX games that you can detail as the best of the system (and for those of us intellectuals - as one of the greatest games ever made.)
FFTA is the kind of game you played while no one was looking.
Now, if you enjoyed FFTA - more power to you. Liking fun things is what life is about, but the fact that you went from a deep, interesting story with phenominal battle system to a "kids game" (Im using that loosely) with an awful Judge system to hamper the gameplay was like walking out of a fine dinner and stepping in dog shit.
FFTA2? I hope a lot of people enjoy it - but truth be told, I'm considering getting a damn PSP off of Ebay just to play FFT; I won't buy a DS for this - even though its easily the better handheld.

FFTA2 is possibly worse than FFTA in some aspects. It feels a lot slower than FFTA, which is my main problem. Battles seem to drag on and they get pretty boring at certan points. Square is actually limiting your access to classes. The "tactical" aspect, I feel like it's weaker than Advance Wars. The story sucks, but what story really compares to FFT? It does help a bit that your main character is an assholish douche, sometimes. Overall, the game falls into the better than mediocre category. Nonetheless, I am enjoying it but I'm not sure that I'm liking it or loving it.
