Forget the dinner and a movie. Probably the most boring idea ever.
Dinner is nice, but I prefer lunch. Lunch is a lot less pressure and feels more casual. Of course, if you want dinner to be less stressful, offer to make dinner in your own living space. Whatever time you choose, have a light meal and then go out for fun. The pier sounds nice, but museums, concerts, or the zoo are all good options too.
