My first time driving a car was pretty average I guess. Was in my mother's 03 Mustang GT. I did alright, I suppose. I was like 15.
First time on a motorcycle (my primary transport atm) was much different. It was my friend's bike, and I had no idea how the thing worked at all, but I was interested in giving it a shot so dammit, I did. I get on, and try to start it. Doesn't start. I pull in the clutch and hit the ignition and the engine comes to life. So, after learning that in order to move I have to bring the thing out of neutral and into first gear, I immediately stall it out (taking my hand off the clutch of course). After about ten minutes of messing around with what was at the time a new concept to me (I had never driven a standard shift in a car) I finally began to inch forward. The bike stuttered a little bit but I made my way down the road (in a subdivision, mind you). Unfortunately, I found myself coming up to a turn so I did what was natural to me: turned the handle bars. My direction didn't really change. My friend is running after me telling me I have to lean. I shift my body weight a little in the direction I want to go and voila, I'm turning! Hurrah! Relieved, I make my way back to my friend, having had enough of motorcycle riding. I near him, hit the brakes and (due to my height [like 5'3" on a crotch rocket]) sort of just lay the bike over.
Luckily it was an old bike.
I actually swore off motorcycle riding for a while, saying it wasn't for me. But I ended up giving in a couple months later and decided I wanted to learn for real. It took a while, but I'm a good rider now.
Jam it back in, in the dark.
