Actually, I read that these crane flies, or mosquito hawks, do not eat mosquitos unfortunately. I wonder why they are called that then?
As for avoding those skeeters, try not to wear bright, floral colors. Also do not where fragrances or basically anything that makes you look or smell like a flower. A good repellent is one with plenty of deet. I know a lot has been said about the health affects but I read that it is harmless if you simply follow the directions.
Jam it back in, in the dark.
