Game is fun as hell. Got pretty pissed off in the beginning just because I don't ever adjust to Tri-Ace's unique battle systems very quickly (in any games). After giving it some time though I can say it's up there as one of the best battle systems I've ever experienced in an RPG (same way I felt about SO2, actually).

Midway into chapter 3, I think, I really don't get how THAT character makes a reappearance but it was definitely a nice surprise. Although judging from where everyone else here seems to be i'd say I showed up late to the party.

The skill system is the only thing i'm not crazy about, the game already had enough of a learning curve and it just added to the overall confusion. As cheap as it may sound, I would just about kill for the Bradygame's explanation in the walkthrough to be scanned and put up on here.

Quick question(s) to you folks though, since I don't have the funds to be spending $50 on a strategy guide: Basically I've been sticking with Dylan (it was a close call between using him and Mr. A, still not sure on that one), Lezard, and Rufus. Every review I've read about the game mentions the grinding involved, and as fun as the battle system is, leveling up einherjar to just release them for good seems pretty pointless to me (I'm also somewhat dissapointed at the lack of background for them), do you guys mostly stick with the story-driven characters?

Also, when you get the two new "mercenaries", did you swap out Dylan/Rufus for either of the two?

I am anti-spoiler by the way, so if anything said runs the risk of ruining something for me, just don't even bother.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

There's an einherjar FAQ over at gamefaqs that explained a lot of it for me.

Just stay the hell away from the forums over there, needless to say.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Anyone else having a bitch of a time dealing with those wild trolls over in the Crawsus Forest Ruins or whatever? Apparently the key is using the flamberge and hitting them with frailty (which would be nice if that effect actually ever went off).

It's also confusing as hell as to which sealstones to put where, according to the FAQ the boss is an earth monster where as everything else seems to have the lightning element on it, making this confusing as hell.

Fun.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

What makes the game stand out for me is the battle system. The story's great, the music is good, but most of all, Tri-Ace continues the pattern where it takes you a little bit to get the hang of the battle system, but when you get it down, it's fan-fucking-tastic.

Honestly with Star Ocean 3 I hated the "innovations" over the 2nd one, as far as the battle system was concerned, but the improved battle system over VP1 is excellent. Never got bored of fighting, so the whole level grinding issue everyone bitches about doesn't bother me at all.

I also thought the dubbing was done very well, especially compared to the voice-acting in RPGs as of late.

I just wish it was longer, but thats probably because it's caused me to pull a few all-nighters on it (something I rarely do).

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

Well I, for one, thought the ending was pretty damn terrible, there was very little to no closure. I was pretty upset over it since the story itself was so damn good. Maybe it's because I didn't play the first one...eh.

Spoiler:
But apparently this ending creates a time paradox or some crap, where in the time dimension for VP2 the first game couldn't even happen.

Spoiler:
And I thought the first transcendential being was laughably easy, with the Upped Tolerance sealstone, and having toughness on all of my guys (Alicia, Adonis, Brahms, and Rufus all around 52), he seriously couldn't hurt my group enough for me to care about avoiding his range at all. The hard part was the very last battle when alicia changes to valkyrie, making my group have no healer, and having valkyrie being the only one who can do any damage. Eventually I just let the rest of the party die, and without them eating the AP the battle was actually easier, even without her SC. What a terrible idea for an ending battle.

The game was great but the way it ended really disappointed me.

And something I never quite understood:
Spoiler:
Brahms said that he combine souls with the original einherjar Dylan or whatever, but then he comes out as Brahms during the conclusion to chapter 4, so..1. Was "Dylan" completely Brahms "personality wise" (i.e. Simply just Brahms in disguise) or was the original einherjar Dylan also present? and 2. If they combined souls and Brahms comes back during the conclusion to chapter 4...uh...what happened to the original einherjar Dylan?

How ya doing, buddy?

Oh snap, my face was deleted or something, well here it is again.

Don't turn this thread into a "which game is better thread", go to GameFAQs for that crap please.

Dylan Spoiler (End of Chapter 4)
Spoiler:
Still want to know what happened to the original Dylan before Brahms fused with him though, answer me THAT

Dylan Spoiler (Chapter 6)
Spoiler:
Brahms mentions, during the process Alicia would undergo to become a Valkyrie, that Brahms fused with a man named Dylan a while back, it is also mentioned in Brahms's background that he was wounded and merged with one of Silmeria's einherjar, a man named Dylan.

So yes, there definitely *was* an original Dylan before Brahms. Basically I'm just pointing out that there is a definitely cliffhanger as to what happened to the original einherjar Dylan before Brahms was wounded and merged with him.

My theory is: Dylan was the dominant soul until chapter 4, when Brahms became the dominant, *but* Dylan is still very much present inside Brahms.
