You have to be on 3.52m33-2, and you need to use Irshell.
Full installation and instructions are at that link. If you feel like downgrading to 3.03OEC or 3.10OE, you could use SCEP-XMB. Full install instructions and information are at this link as well. There's an easy way of upgrading straight from 1.5.
I used this tool as a test on another friend's psp, and it worked very easily. I recommend it. it's the PSP Upgrader/Downgrader tool, which makes upgrading and downgrading firmware really easy. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? WALK WITH THE DREAMERS,

Most people have solved the issue by changing the gameID of the eboot file from the original FFVIII game ID to SLPS02180 (which is Dino Crisis' gameID). you have winrar enabled to control .iso files.
This is why you cannot see the file itself. Open up Winrar, then choose Options > Settings > Integration, and uncheck ISO. Then your .iso files will be back to normal. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. WALK WITH THE DREAMERS,

The reason why kimchi can see the files inside the .iso file are explained above...
