Yes, the American SNES was an "easier" version with some censoring. The PSX release was the Japanese hard version which wasnt really that much harder having played both. I mean, if you want the game to be even harder, go into config, set the battle type to active and put the speed on fastest (on the PSX version.)

I remember being able to adjust the battle type and speed, correct me if I'm wrong
