No one thinks that these people maliciously neglected their child to death, otherwise she'd probably have been beaten or left in a carseat in her snow suit for a week before someone noticed the dead baby smell* or something. The problem is that neither you nor your friend are arguing anything, except (in his case) that we're all ignorant because we don't preface our posts with "I don't think this couple is worse than Hitler however"
