[Multiplatform] Official Final Fantasy XIII Thread

The only thing I disliked about FF6's World of Ruin was that there wasn't enough destitute people. There were a lot in Albrook, but not many elsewhere.

I especially liked the poor folks in the domes in Chrono Trigger.

Midgar is my favourite place in FF7.

What I'm trying to say is that I hope there's poor people in this game. I'm a hundred percent serious.

I don't know, all I know is that it sounds dumb based entirely on the title name.

I'd like to think that this whole FF XIII series thing will be similar to Persona II, as in they're two distinct games unto themselves, but enough connection that prior knowlege of one's storyline enhanses the other. Plus it beats retconning folks like FF VII's doing.

This is a Japanese RPG you inuits, why would they have the characters' names in English in the screenshots?

Becides that name is entirely too gay for reality.

Well, yes, most j-rpg names are gay. If you prefer, Lightning as a name makes no goddamn sense. Maybe the bad guy will be named Cure. Support characters include Potion and Unlockable Door.

I played FF7, maybe the fifty or so posts in the AC thread weren't enough for you to know but yes I've played it a few times. In fact, I've played other jap games, surely you would think I'd know the difference between "key" text like characters' names and dialog and non-essential text like background stuff or labels for your spell box. But no! You tell me anyway. Well thanks for that. I'm sure there were some people who just never noticed this before.

What the hell people. Can you think of any jap screenshots of any FF game that had the main characters' names in English? I mean, do me the favor of thinking that much for yourself.

No, people are arguing that the UI shown in the screenshots might not make it to the final product. You are arguing about the battle system, which is entirely different.

I think the UI mockup thing is right though. Okay, look at all the garbage on the screen. Do you think there's enough room for two or three other party member's stuff in there? The only thing I can think of is that they show the action queue / ATB bar for one person at a time, and execute accordingly. Don't know if I like that.

The only other thing I can think of are that there is no party members.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

It's not that it's in a different font, it's that it's in a highly stylized font. You have to admit that's unusual for a character's name in battle.

Usually when they introduce the main character's name in the pregame hype, the company specifically mentions it. Why would they show a pretty movie at E3, and while not making a point to release any information about the two main characters, would neglect to leave the one's name in screenshots? Granted, that this is what just happened to the ps3 with FFXIII but what if other titles such as white knight story, god of war 3 (Which is doubtfull seeing as its a sony game), and other ps2 sequels which were once exlcusive to sony now all coming to multiplatform when your original assumptions were that they would be ps3 exclusive and thought "alright, i can only afford one console at the moment, let go with the one which has exclusives I'm familiar with and I know I'll probably enjoy"

Here's what i don't understand about this argument, maybe you can help me out here.

In what you said above about buying the xbox for Halo 3, one assumes you probably bought the console reasonably close to when the game came out, not several years out. I can understand wanting to make the 'best' choice in console purchases if your money's tight and you can only afford one, but I just don't understand making that choice so many years before the games you wanted are going to come out. You know what I mean? Why lock your money into one console simply because of one game, or a few games, if no other games that had come out until this point really pulled you?

I guess it doesn't matter really though. YOu had already made your bed, and you're prepared to lie in it. I'm just wondering why people did this in the first place, I guess.

That's what I mean. If the big game you're waiting for is FFXIII, which was announced in like 2006 and probably won't be released until the end of this year at the minimum, why did you buy a console before now? Were there other games coming out for the PS3 that you wanted? That's all I'm asking, why people bought a console for a game that was going to come out well over a year or two later than the purchase.

I bought a PS3 console in June 2007 and yes, I also did it because I wanted to be able to play games like GTA IV or Final Fantasy XIII. It did not exactly matter to me when those games were going to be released. There's something wrong with asking somebody why they bought a console without first waiting to see if it'll have more than a couple of games they're interested in? The guy was bitching because, if he had known then what he knows now, he would've gotten an xbox - which is perfectly logical and is why I was wondering why he and others like him made the purchase so early.
