The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth [PC] - 30pts

Taking a great game and making it greater. And not in flash. I was really late to the party in playing the first game (didn't touch it until well after Wrath of the Lamb came out), but it really sucked me in. So much content, and the replayability is unbelievable. I may miss the Danny Baranowsky soundtrack of the original a little bit, but the whole package of Rebirth is far and above the gold standard for a remake or pseudo-sequel for a title.

Dungeon of the Endless [PC] - 20pts

I sort of stumbled into this game on Twitch. It also really nails the tower-defense-plus-X genre mix that I really like, despite absolutely hating vanilla tower defense. Brutally difficult ("Easy" is as high as the difficulty goes off the bat and it's still ball-kickingly hard), simple on the surface yet with a shocking degree of strategy and planning necessary to succeed. Since picking it up in November I've sunk almost 40 hours into the game and have won exactly once. Now that I've tasted victory, I only want more.

FTL: Advanced Edition [PC] - 20pts

In on a technicality! While FTL may have been a 2012 indie game darling, the (free!) Advanced Edition update added so much more to the game. Out in the first quarter of the year I still boot it up again every so often just to get either another flagship kill or another beatdown from the RNG/my own mismanagement skills. Also in the update were the best tracks the game has now, which was impressive considering how great the originals were.

Mount Your Friends [PC] - 10pts

What can best be described as a QWOP-like, this "simulated sportslike experience" may be one of the best late night drinking competitive games of all time. Swing your manly body through the air, go for daring launches, and reach the top of the man-pile. For glory. And for the flopping dongs.

----- WEEBLORD SECTION BEGINS HERE -----

Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme Vs. Full Boost [PS3] - 10pts

A fighting game I sort of dove head first into when it came out in January. Having gotten to play a little bit of it in Japan on vacation, it really tugged at my Virtual On heartstrings. While I'm not the biggest Gundam fan on earth (There are still some I haven't seen), there's enough here in both substance and fanservice to keep me playing it regularly almost an entire year since its release. I'm now totally onboard for the series, and wait with bated breath for the console release of Maxi Boost.

The iDOLM@STER: One For All! [PS3] - 10pts

OBLIGATORY. I've sunk well over 150 hours into this game at this point and am still nowhere near done. It took the base game systems of the previous game (iM@S 2) and instead of being a more visual novel-style game expanded it into a 765 Productions Management Simulator meets Score Attack meets Final Fantasy 10. There's singing, dancing, absurdly expensive DLC, silly minigames, and a sphere grid. Real good.

Honorable mentions:
Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl [3DS]
Bravely Default [3DS]
Shantae and the Pirate's Curse [3DS]
Lethal League [PC]
Shovel Knight [PC]
Wings of Vi [PC]
Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late [PS3]
Atelier Escha and Logy: Alchemists of the Dusk Sky [PS3]
Guilty Gear Xrd [PS3/PS4]
Threes [Android/iOS]
Monster Strike [Android/iOS]

Jam it back in, in the dark.
