I'm also really anal about that. When I lived with my grandmother and my younger cousins would come over, I'd tell them every time that if they play one of my games they'd better damn well put it back in its case on penalty of death.
My other cousins don't seem to be as adamant about it as I am and are always losing their games for long periods of time because it wasn't in the case they thought it was. Jam it back in, in the dark.
