Need help on what kind of HDTV to buy

My situation is that I want an LCD flat panel HDTV. I know that I want at least 720p and 8ms response time. I would like the size to be within the 26-32'' range. I have a budget of around 800-900 dollars.

My problem is that I don't know what brands are good to buy. I don't want to spend extra money just for a brand name if it does the same thing as a lesser known brand. I also know that although the specs may be the same the picture quality of the TV's are different depending on the brand. I will be using this primarily for DVD movies and the occasional video game (Halo 3, WWE Smackdown Vs. Raw 2008)

I do NOT want a wall mounted one so I need one with a stand.

Given this, anyone have a good idea of what brand, type, and model TV would be good for me?
