Oh my god, I'm posting in an ANGST thread. Like the idea, though.
I recently started working full-time at the place where I did my last internship, and since that's a high school, rule number 1 does not apply to me. (right?

) I'm an assistant system/network administrator, by the way, so no teaching involved.
Anyway, I'm having a great time there, but I have these moments of extreme frustration and annoyance with some of my 'superiors'.
First of all, there has been an IT Manager there for almost two years now. Before that, the entire department was totally screwed over by the system administrator who I replaced (won't go into the details), but mostly by the lack of control from the higher ups. They had (and still have) this "if it works, it's fine with us" attitude.
The department is run by people who know jack shit about IT, and they don't really need to, but they don't take advice from the people who DO know what they are talking about. Whenever we try to make to make changes in well, whatever the plans are always put on hold, cancelled or being made into a huge drama because most of them don't like changes. And changes is exactly what we need to create a good functioning network infrastructure. I realise this, my co-workers realise this. It's the people who run the damned department who don't.
I could go on for ages giving examples about stuff that's happened. It gets really frustrating and really de-motivating because I never get the idea that I'm actually accomplishing something.
Jam it back in, in the dark.
