I ordered/reserved the movie at a Suncoast in the mall next to my school, the entire thing should cost $20, which means it won't be the Limited Edition... but I'm ok with that.

They said mid to late April (26th probably) for getting the movie.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Well, I paid the last of the 20 bucks on the movie at my local mall suncoast store, so now I just gotta wait for the movie to arrive. I heard its already available in some places, but 5-6 days ain't nothin to stress over.

I'll post a review of the dub when I get it, obviously after watching it a few times

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Well I just watched the english dub. My impressions (SPOILERS ABOUND K?)

Spoiler:
Cloud: His voice was different then what I imagined in my head, but I liked it, and the only bad part lipsyncing wise was when he was talking with Rufus at the beginning. I'm split on the vocals... the japanese seemed to have a 'thinking' tone, while the english had a more decisive edge.

Barret: Spot On. Even if the Mr. T comparisons can be made, it was very accurate to how he was in the game, and that's the most important part for characterization. I like how he threw in "Spikey", and "I'll give him 10 minutes".
I liked the english dub over the japanese, partly because you just can't emulate a black man in japanese well.

Tifa: Her voice, while portrayal was very good, it still just seemed weird to me. She was the one character I never could 'voice' in my head when playing FFVII. While no complaints, I'll have to watch it again to get used to her voice.

Cid: Slightly sterotypical, but good enough for me. I think I liked the japanese vocal a bit more.

Cait Sith: Why all the insults at Yuffie? The Irish was NOT how I imagined his voice in the game. I figured a lean towards (Of all characters) Meowth from the Pokemon Anime. Slightly high pitched and a very subtle new york accent.

Sephiroth: Much more 'calm' and calculating then what I imagined, but I can dig it. I'll have to watch again for a more decisive conclusion.

Vincent: Left-field for his voice, although it fits. I got used to it as the movie progressed. The english voice sounded more in touch to his character, but the japanese was audiably cooler. I'm mixed on this one =\

Marlene & Denzel: Pretty much sounded like how they should. Marlene's english dub seemed like a lower pitched version of the japanese, meaning they matched up well.

Yazoo: Definetly better then the Japanese, as I hardly remember that one

Kadaj: As others have said, the english vocal was superb. The ONLY complaint I have is that he didn' have enough emotion/energy about shouting "MOTHER!" when Rufus tossed the case off the building.

Loz: No doubt, I liked the japanese vocal better... it was deeper and more menacing. I did like it when he was all "I'm NOT crying!". The english sounded ... generic.

Aeirth: I didn't think they could do it, but they mangaged to capture (Although not quite as well as the japanese vocal) the sort of 'erethral' other-wordly tone to her voice, as if she wasn't there as a person. Mena Suvari gets a prop for that job.

Zack: Uh, no complaints.

Red XIII: OH why did he only have one line? =x
Excellent english line.

Rufus Shinra: Oh of course I liked it, but as withy a few other voices: Suprising. A second watch will have to get me to decide.

Rude: I'm indifferent about his vocal. The japanese had this 'bass' quality that I liked, but the english was... 'crisp'.

Reno: Spot on, contender for best vocal along with Kadaj. I liked how he was talking smack throughout the movie.

Now as far as the DVD itself goes: They overdid it on the trailers for the movie, and the 'Reminiscense' was lacking in content.
I liked the Making of featurette though. A shame they didn't interview the english vocal actors.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Southjag:
Spoiler:

From what I can gather:

Cloud uses Blade Beam against Loz/Yazoo, Climhazard (or a variant of) on Bahamut Sin, Blade Beam 2 and Omnislash 5.0 on Sephiroth (Blade Beam 2 is where the beam splits, I forgot the proper name).

Barret used Big Blow a few times

Tifa probably used a few of her slot attacks (Meteo Dive I recognized), while Cid I think did High Jump.

Spoiler:
Also, Was the part where Vincent swept up Cloud with his cape a low level limit break or just a trick of some sort?

As I said a week or so ago, I have done this, and now I have the time to actually present it. If I did any duplicates from wayy back then my bad.

Anyway, Take a look:
Spoiler:

First up at the beginning is a sign for 7th Heaven Bar, the only drink I could make out was Bourbon:

The Amino-D cola on Tifa's desk:

Turns out the kids drew Tifa and Cloud together. I like how Cloud is all >=| and tifa is drawn as all ^_^ by the kids.

On that note, another kid's drawing, this time of barret!

Right before the Bahamut fight, I saw this intriguing poster in the background, it seems to resemble Cloud's face/portrait a bit.

Everyone's favorite easter egg... I wonder if they call if the game console the PlayShinra? lol

Beginning of the movie again, a sign for something called 'New Honey" maybe a parlour shop?

close up of Elena's ID Card:

Inside the Bar, they apparently ward off Vampires

Jet Spice!

This is interesting for two reasons:
1. They name thier streets really weirdly.
2. They use American Weights and Measures, which is odd considering Japan uses Metrics, AKAIK

Another shot of the sign and "Silence Street" If you didn't notice, they go back and forth between Midgar and Midgul, phonetics/translation errors most likely.
You can also see a Loveless poster in the background... I didn't bother to see what it said, but
maybe you can

The W.R.O., now recruiting:

Behind Tifa you can make out Cloud's figure in the classic pose he's famous for

The Loveless Poster seen at the beginning of the movie:

I might have more later, but have fun with these for now

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

I'm not sure Gackt is very popular here in America, but maybe they'll keep him in since

Spoiler:
His character is only seen rarely in the game

So when does Dirge of Cerberus hit US Shores?

Its not though.
Spoiler:
Its not short for Gackt either, lol

Since Zack is actually in SOLDIER (The Elite Squad, not the member), maybe we'll finally see where it is they're trained.

I know what would sell like hotcakes: A mini-replica of Pre-Meteor-Attacked Midgar, as a giant like, Display. They could even add working lights and smoke coming out of the reactors XD

Actually though, If I did purchase ANY FF Merchandise, I'd like to get either Squall's Neckalce or Tidus's. Are there any US Online Stores that sell them? I wouldn't want to lose an arm and a leg in shipping fees If I did buy one

I am as much as a fan of Rufus myself, but I have to agree with the man on this: Square Enix is going overboard with this. It would be a much better business strategy to syphon out FFVII related products one at a time in a slower fashion, then this "ZOMG 34 & 1/2 NEW GAMES IN FOUR YEARS! ALL FFVII RELATED!!" thinking they seem to have lately.

However, I do understand that the fans HAVE asked for this for some time, and Square Enix is simply responding to fan demand.

Tetsuya Nomura was right: FFVII is a Pandora's Box. Now the box has been fully opened.

Southjag echoes my feelings about the sales: Yeah, I could have easily not bothered to buy it, but I enjoyed the movie and wanted a (legal) copy I could call my own.

I want to see this happen:
A. Make the damm remake and have it be the last 'project' for the Compilation (Aside from the hinted 'ending' title for the entire series)
OR
B. Not make the remake, but Tie up the entire story in a RPG Sequel, a FFVII-2 PROPER
(Yes DoC was a PS2 Sequel of sorts, but it was more like a Side-Story that happened to take place AFTER the main story-line, instead of during it as most Gaiden Games do).

Or more likely, a combination of both: Fix/EXPAND the story in the remake and then have the final title wrap up stuff as an RPG title. Its obvious that they're gonna try milk this for a lot, maybe for all its worth, so might as well go out with having the series bone dry.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

You sure about that? It was the other-way around I noticed in the past.

Also, from Wikipedia:
Quote:
"Famitsu is known worldwide for its extremely harsh grading of current videogames. Video games are graded in Famitsu by a panel of four video game reviewers. Each reviewer gives a score from one to ten (ten being best). The scores of the four reviewers are then added up with a possible score of forty. Famitsu reviewers have long been considered unmercifully tough, though in recent years their average review scores have generally taken an upswing. Several recent Famitsu scores have been subject to controversy, and the magazine has been accused of "selling out" to appease advertisers and the larger entities in the industry, such as with their score for Dirge of Cerberus. However, it is still extremely difficult for a game to receive a perfect score of forty from Famitsu's reviewers. Famitsu Wave DVD does not grade video games."
You might have been referring to the bribes companies have given them, but generally they still have a reputation for harsh scores. I do agree that they may have caved into pressure from the larger companies, but then again they did change thier scoring system to decide based on the Genre that the game is placed in, instead of going against every game ever. That may explain the two recent 10 scores (FFXII and Nintendogs), because they were exceptional in the RPG and a uh... Virtual Pet Simulator genres.

I think they were a bit unfair in the wikipedia entry, because Dirge of Cerberus is in a sort-of unique position: Take the fact that all the previous media entries in the series have been RPGs or Film/Animated, whereas DoC is a Third Person Shooter. Its hard to do a Storyline series and change the genre (So it would be like having Xenosaga 1 being a RTS, where Xenosaga 2 was a FPS, but with all the story still there) without making everything shit. In that regards Squarenix did an geat job because it largely stays an interesting game, despite the genre shift. That may have influenced the score of the game, as they might have considered the story, and GAMEPLAY elements that transitioned to a Third Person FPS (Like the Use of Materia in battle), and how well they did in regards to that. Taking that and comparing the game itself against other Third Person FPSs (Max Payne for example) you would then being evaluating the game.

The most important part, and one that often goes unnoticed it seems these days, is that while Reviews/Scores and all of that are a good way to get a general impression of the overall funfactor of a game, its all about what you think once you play it. You don't need to rely on a Gamespot score to know that Super Mario 3 is a well honed example of the Side Scroller Genre, but a lot of games out there are not so simple in seeing if they are great to play or not, and in this respect I can see the use of Game Scores.

Anyway... Does anyone know the release dates for Crisis Core, and the PS2 Port as well?

I just saw one of the phones that MIGHT be able to play Before Crisis today on the bus, the swivel kind I mean.

The thing is: Japan is LIGHT YEARS ahead of the rest of the world in terms of general technology, and specifically Cellphones. So while we're just NOW getting streaming video (Over Verizon's V-Cast) for the 3G Spectrum, its the same kind of network that DoCoMo Corp. uses for moble phone games, such as Crisis Core, as well as the DoC 'Lost Episode'.

I'd wait for the Soundtrack release to make a final judgement, but I didn't mind it that much myself... besides sometimes the trailer versions of songs differ widely from the final in-game version.

*Awaits "Zack's Theme", as a rival to "Cloud's Theme" (aka World Map)*

Also it looks like you get to fight summons, that's neat.
I wonder, would you be able to battle Summon against Summon, ala FFX? That would make for an interesting debate.

Or who knows, with the new characters, maybe they'll retroactively throw in a couple new summons (As they did with Bahamut 4 in AC).

Quote:
if it's going to be an RPG, I hope you get to talk to other soldiers. I doubt you would, but I kinda hope so. :nerd:
Well considering that they had cutscenes with Zack and Cloud interacting, I imagine you might even have a mission or two with him alongside, if they go the route of 'missions'. I doubt it would be a stretch to have other SOLDIERs (Not related to our resident FF Freak) in battle. Since Angeal's uniform is... well, uniform with Zacks, I'd guess its the BTU of SOLDIERs for Shinra.

Needs more Rufus

I like how the sword in Hantei's post above is mislabeled. It was supposed to be called the "Tsrugi" or something like that? This is the buster sword, by the way:
I know its likely not of much difference when you get right down to it, but I like things to be accurate if you're going to have them all displayed up nice like that. Of course, If I am wrong and the English translation IS "Buster Sword", then never mind! ^^;;

Also in other news, (If it hasn't been posted already), A few bits of info about Crisis Core, taken from http://www.adventchildren.net/

Quote:
Official Crisis Core Website Open
Square-Enix has opened the official Crisis Core website. There are sections for Story, Characters, Download, and Info. The opening storyline can be found in Story, information on Angeal and Zack in the Characters section, a PSP and desktop wallpaper in Download, and merchandise and staff information under Info. Sections labeled PV (Promotional Video) and System are listed but unavailable.
Further more, they (same site) have a translation of the site, or at least of the "Story Portion", you can read that bit below:

Spoiler:
Quote:
STORY

Going back seven years before "Final Fantasy VII"...

Thanks to their monopoly on "Mako Energy" and a strong military force, the "Shinra Company" is quickly exerting their influence around the World. Construction is also rapidly advancing on their base, and symbol of prosperity, the Mako city of "Midgar", which will soon become Shinra's seat of power.

---

The Shinra Company possesses an organization of soldiers with powerful combat ability known as "SOLDIER", and amongst them, the especially excellent SOLDIERs are known as SOLDIER: First Class, inspiring respect and envy from the masses.

One of the young people yearning to be First Class is the SOLDIER: Second Class, Zack. He works hard at his daily duties with his senior, Angeal, a SOLDIR: First Class and an excellent leader.

At that time, the "SOLDIER Mass Disappearance Incident" occurred when, during combat operations in Wutai, the SOLDIER: First Class Genesis went missing without a trace, along with many other SOLDIERs.

---

The Shinra Company's top management assessed the situation and decided to send out SOLDIER in order to bring an end to the war and clarify the scandal, and so, Angeal and Zack, as well as the SOLDIER: First Class Sephiroth, whose name would come to be known through the world as a hero, were dispatched to Wutai.

What is the truth behind Genesis' disappearance?
What is the secret concealed by the three First Class SOLDIERs?
A struggle of cruel fate awaits Zack.

CHARACTERS

Zack Fair
SOLDIER:2nd of the Shinra Company. He joined SOLDIER because he yearned to be a hero.

Quick to act and overflowing with vitality, he has a bright and cheerful disposition. As he sets his sights on 1st Class, the fates of many whirl around with him at the core.

Angeal Hewley
The First Class SOLDIER who is often in action together with Zack. His true character is stoic and serious, and he gets along well with the 1st Classes, Sephiroth and Genesis. He owns the enormous Buster Sword, but rarely uses it for some reason.

And finally, some gameplay & general game information:

Spoiler:
Quote:
Crisis Core Gamaga Information
The upcoming May issue of Gamaga, to be released on Friday, includes some information on Crisis Core, most of which seems to be along the lines of the other recent magazine articles, and as such, there isn't much new information.

- Development is said to be 75% complete.

- There is also some information on the trailer that will be shown at Square-Enix Party; it will include a lot of completely new content, and some of the other scenes will have been changed completely. It will also be the longest Crisis Core trailer so far.

- Genesis is a character who specializes in magic, and fights with a sword that has a red blade. He uses a combination of magic and sword skill to fight.

- The Turk's designs are the same as their designs in Before Crisis. Reno doesn't have his ponytail, and Rude doesn't have any facial hair, and has fewer piercings.

- At the time of Crisis Core, SOLDIER was organized differently, and was seperate from the army that Heidegger controls.

- There will be a wide variety of materia. Materia can be both found and synthesized (as in Before Crisis), though the synthization method wasn't explained.

- After you've obtained enough experience and exceeded the specific value for leveling up, you will level up via the reel system.

Pretty much a confirmation, in my eyes. Browsed a few threads on other forums, and folks brought up all the dumbshit Nomura's said over the years that turned out false. Also, it runs counter to what SE is doing, which is remaking everything under the sun.
I've seen this pattern before:

1. Deny rumors of remake, piss off customers
2. Secretly make Remake
3. Release info that ReMake is being made, customers doubly happy again.
4. ????
5. Massive Profit

Then again, maybe even SE knows that a cow can only be milked so much.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I'm not sure if it's new or not but apparently Square-Enix is suppose to announce Endless Crisis: Final fantasy VII on PS3 at the TGS.

Most fan are already dreaming about the long awaited FFVII remake on ps3, but it could be another games in the FFVII compilation.

I thought that crisis core was the last game in that compilation though so i really hope it's a the reamke or I don't really know what else they could do in that compilation.
They need to just make the ehnanced remake already and be done with it, all this added extra stuff is driving from Enjoyable Fanservice to ... well whatever you call the yearly roster updates of Madden. That kind of overexposure.

Oh and I'm sure you know about this:

AC: Advent Children
BC: Before Crisis
CC: Crisis Core
DC: Dirge of Cerberus
EC: Endless Crisis

So,
FC: Final Crisis (?)

How ya doing, buddy?
