Hey I just got an Xbox 360, and I've got a couple of questions

I'd like to do media sharing with my computer, but apparently I can't unless I verify my copy of Windows XP. Unfortunately It's not a 100% legit copy thus I can't use WMP 11. I was wondering if you guys knew any way around that.

Secondly I've tried to connect my iPod to a 360 and apparently it doesn't recognize all of the files. I have about 10K + songs, but it only sees about 8700.

My last question is whether or not you can connect USB hubs to the ports in order to connect more devices?
I just got one too, but I probably can answer a few of them:

1. Media Sharing requires WMP11 or a Zune, so if you don't have a legitimate copy of WinXP, you'll have to transfer that media to the console via some other method (CD/DVD, Music Player, etc.,)

2. I'm not an expert on iPod devices or anything, but I'd probably have the cause as one of two things:

a. Since you have over 10,000 songs, the 360 might not be able to recognize it all, meaning trying to scan all the files left some of them unread due to overload of resources

b. If any of the songs on your iPod are .acc or are riddled with DRM, then they likely wouldn't be recognized since Apple and Microsoft are rivals and IIRC, the Zune and the iPod do not recognize the proprietary formats of either one (.acc and .wma respectively).

3. No idea. In theory it should work, but I don't know, maybe someone else around here does.

Also, my answers may not be 100% correct, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

--edit--
Also, Hello thread! Just got a 360, the one in the middle (Not Elite but not Arcade...is it Premium?).
Games: Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed, Ace Combat 6, and there were two games includes: Forza 2 and Marvel: UA.

So I was reading some pages back and I noticed IKARUGA is coming to XBLA. Any news on when that comes out?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Important Question, Skills: Using TVersity for example, can I send over songs on my computer over to the 360 so that they are now on the console itself (Instead of just being Streamed)?
Or would I have to use a USB device or DVD/CD?

There's nowhere I can't reach.

There isn't a way to do that, and reripping them leaves you with horribly compressed WMA audio on the console, and takes up hard drive space there.
Well I was just going to take a CD-RW or DVD-RW, put a bunch of high quality mp3 files, burn the disc, stick it in the 360, and transfer the music that way. If nothing else works.

You're saying the 360 doesn't support mp3? ... and why on earth would I ever use WMA?

It won't read a data disc full of music and say "transfer audio". You can stick an audio CD in there and it'll rerip it with it's own WMA encoder, but there's no way at ALL to do what you're proposing.

Streaming like a normal person is by far the best course of action.
Well shit... guess I'll have to make playlists ahead of time to play on the 360

Minor annoyance I suppose, but you'd figure they would be more supportive of such a universal format. Oh wait, this IS microsoft we're talking about. Nevermind.

How ya doing, buddy?

I thought the slower response time for the Blades was intentional, to give it a 'thicker' feel (that each blade has some weight to it), but the faster time is a definite improvement.

As neat as the xbox game downloads are, I don't have THAT much space (20GB Hard Drive, only 13GB USEABLE ), so I'll probably pick up Crimsons Skies on regular in-store version. Nice look on the page itself though, like looking back at the Xbox 1's GUI for a second.

Actually what I wouldn't mind seeing is that they eventually replace all of the tiny Icons for the games with the full covers. Have this done for all the Arcade, Xbox Originals, and so forth. Better then a thumbnail IMO.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Give me an option to turn off disc autoplay already.
They already have that for starting up the console, unless you're talking about something else.

To change the settings for Startup:

From the Main Blades, Navigate to System -> Console Settings -> Startup -> Xbox Dashboard.

Only up startup. If it's already running, and you put in a disc, the disc autoloads.
Hmm, well typically when I put a game into the 360, I want to play it.
When I do NOT want to play a game, I leave it in its case. Its a simple system and it works.

Maybe this crazy & bizzare behavior is just something I do

Does anyone know if they're gonna be making MGS 2: Substance backwards compatible? Ever since I got my 360, I've been waiting and waiting and still no MGS 2. Anyway, has anyone even used the Friends of Friends thing?
You can find MGS2: Substance dirt cheap in the bargin bin @ gamestop for the PS2. I'd go with that, unless for some reason you don't have a PS2

I haven't yet, but I should, given all the GFF people I could be playing on Ace Combat and Call of Duty 4.

Also in case people don't read my journal: I recently picked up Crimson Skies [Xbox], and Call of Duty 4 and Bioshock [360]. I think I'm almost done with Bioshock, but I'm not sure.

Only reason I'm not jumping out of my chair about it being brought to live is that
I still have Ikaruga for the Gamecube. Since I'm not a collector per se, seems a bit pointless
to get it again for Xbox Live. Unless they included online Multiplayer...

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Which they have, which I have mentioned specifically in an above post.

Reading comprehension, man. >=(
Bah, I'm tired.

Anywhoo, since this now makes purchase a possibility, how much is it supposed to be, or is a price even announced?

I like the sound of being able to set online status before I'm signed in. Much as I love playing with people online, some days you just want to play single player and it'd be easier to appear offline than to seem rude refusing game invites.
This.

That's the reason is why I am not farther along in the missions on GTAIV. Everytime I get on its all "So-and-So would like to Play!".
I like Multiplayer as much as the next guy, but I wanna get to Time's Square one of these days!

Sweet, If this goes through, maybe that'll kill any load times from Lost Odyssey and GTAIV (Or at least reduce pop-in occurrences)

Huh. Guess I'm the only one who made avatar based on myself. Oh well.

So how much space does each game installation typically take?

Thanks for that. I'm a little disappointed though, I was planning on doing an HD Install for Lost Odyssey to cut down on the random battle load times, but it takes a grotesque amount of space. Looking at the chart, what's surprising for me is that of all the games for the system, Halo 3, heavily marketed by Microsoft, is said to be worse!

No data for Ace Combat 6 yet.

I don't suppose Xbox original games would take advantage of this feature?

Is that the same Controller Stick that they had available for Skills Ace Combat 6 fans? Or is it that one that looks like an actual coin-slottan Arcade game?

Ok guys, tomorrow I'm probably gonna get one new game. I'm looking at Mirror's Edge (Its sharp! ...ok, bad joke), but anything else I should consider? Console titles only for this time, any new PC games are too demanding for my old laptop.

Contracts, if you do get a new 360, you might get one of the new models with the "Jasper" motherboard in it, which is supposed to reduce RRoD errors completely (And feature a 256MB built-in cache, for what I can only assume is the new XBE/Dashboard). The revisions were supposed to get put in during late august / september, but I think by now they should start circulating into models available for purchase.

Then again, they might give you an old model in an effort to clear them out >_>

So for those of you who are fans of fighting games, TAKE YOU FOR A RIDE* was released onto Live today. 1200 m$ points is the price. Its pretty much a faithful recreation of the original dreamcast game (As that is the version upon which it was built from), and the main attraction for the long term is online multiplayer.
