You know, a long time ago I had envisioned a battle system where the enviroment could greatly dictate on how you attack enemies, with a seamless transition to battle.

For example: You see the enemy far away, by Climbing up on top of a roof, and then jumping down and attacking with a blade on an unsuspecting enemy, you can get the drop on them. Then by rolling to avoid counter-fire and then switching to a gun and firing at the enemy's support from behind a barrel or the side of a building, you can control the pace and flow of battle. Suppose you're at the side of a building. You can run around to the other side and take out the support with a suprise rolling grenade on the ground, or perhaps you throw down a flash grenade and blitzkrieg the enemy and force them into a CQC situation.

I think this battle engine, along with the heroine's dual Gun/Sword weapon, will make that long-ago idea, possible.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

and yes me too I want character that has they own ability. FFX was ok at first but when you were starting to go into the path of others character that,s were I stop and didn't wanted to complete the grid...

I don't like when all character are identical in the end, it just seem to take away from the character, because the way they fight is a part of what they are...
Well, it did seem a bit unrealistic when Yuna walks up to an enemy and does 999999 in one hit =\

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

and Before Crisis were no good.
Well given that they haven't even released the game in the US or any other region for that matter (As far as I am aware of!), I'd like to see the american perception before we just write it off as "No Good".

Well for a cellphone game what do you expect? Hopefully the port will get some beefing up before hitting stateside on the GBA.
The GBA?? Last I heard they were going to release the game through Verzion's V-Cast Network.

But getting back onto the discussion: FFXIII: Haeresis's Registration page can be found here for the curious: http://tarr.uspto.gov/servlet/tarr?r...Request+Status

And the "Logo" for the game:

How ya doing, buddy?

I tried to view the trailer and it crashed Firefox. :/ I'll see if Youtube has a link up, or maybe gametrailers.
1. Right-Click -> Save As.
2. Download Movie, View.
3. ????
4. Profit!

My thoughts on the trailers: I've always kind of wanted a Modern-ish RPG, and Versus XIII seems like it might deliver on that aspect. FFXIII's trailer finally gives us a good look at the Shiva summon, and overall on battle speed & progression.

I may have to get a PS3 at some point, this game looks interesting. However, final judgment will of course be based on a Demo or at least Gameplay footage. Some of the architecture of FFXIII reminded me of FFXII's Ivalice and VersusXIII reminded me of FFVIII a bit. Specifically Deling City. I want to see in-game footage now, but I bet it will be a while before that happens.

Not surprising, since the team behind Kingdom Hearts is working on VersusXIII.

The whole Emo/goth thing doesn't really bother me at this point (Or maybe I'm just ignoring it) because HEY A SLEEK LIMO CAR & A MODERN DAY CITY AT NIGHT :3

And even then, development is still going snail pace. MGS3 and GTA 4 have a set time and release of sorts, Square can't even try to think of one and claims both are 1.3 or 13% complete (Ha ha really witty...) Is it really nessacary to take this long to develop? Didn't FF12's massive delays and lack of marketting for a year teach them anything?
While I agree with you, I should point out that FFXII's delay was not a usual case of backups and testing and stuff. FFXII's producer, Yasumi Matsuno (FFTactics, Vagrant Story) fell ill and had to recover from his sickness, so while I'm sure there were other reasons, that was the main one, at least publicly. As a result of his illness (Nothing I could find mentioned what exactly it was) production got delayed and so it got released when it got released.

Apparently, the website he linked to (Ruliweb, a Koren Video-site apparently) contained some artwork for Final Fantasy XIII and Versus XIII.

Here's what was posted:

Strange, when I click the thumbnail, nothing comes up.

Anyways the graphics are nice to be sure, but I would definitely NOT say Photo-realistic. You can even pickout where the seams meet on the sword's texture mapping that the big ugly is holding. The skin in particular looks artificial, much like the character models in Doom 3, they have that forced 'wetness', which shows up here on the skin. Above all, the most obvious reason its not photo-realistic is the "Jaggies, as there is still a degree of Anti-Aliasing that needs to be done to the render.

Well seeing as how I have a 360, this is great news!

I don't see how everyone's getting so SERIOUS BUSINESS about this anyway. Sony messed up this generation, however they will learn from their mistakes (Hopefully) and move on.

Also as people seem to be forgetting: It will be BOTH systems, so no one is being left out of the main event. Certain aspects of the game might change a bit from PS3 to 360 (Such as Multi-Disc, Hard Drive Installation as optional (For loading time reduction & such) and Achievements ), but until we even know if such assumed things are going to be in it, its a little early to be getting upset over phantom features.

Having that said, I think the decent success of Mistwalker's RPGs might have had an influence on the decision to make it Multi-console.

Okay, Square Enix needs to lay off the Random Latin Name generator, because who's parents in their right minds would name their kid Noctis? Sounds like a venereal disease.

At least Stella is a real name.

Wow the music pieces on the site is pretty good. I really like the second track (the one after the piano piece) which sounds like a final/remixed version of the theme they used in the very first trailer. Who's composing for 13? If I remembered correctly, Uemastsu has no involvement so it can't be him.
Not entirely. Looks like Uematsu will compose one song for the game (Like how he did with XII), and Masashi Hamauzu is going to be doing main composing duties, or at least that's what it says on the Wikipedia entry.

The battle system sounds a little complicated written down, but it'll probably make more sense when you see it in action.

They'll probably release a system-specific demo later on for Xbox Live / PSN, I bet the demo that's included in Advent Children is an older build.

Its probably more-so wishful thinking then serious consideration of a release this year. Apri 2010 sounds about right. I mean, I'd like to play it sooner then later, but if they need more time for final tweaking and localization, then so be it.

Hindman already noted down the date, but a bit more info:
Gamasutra - News - FFXIII Gets Japan Release Date, International Launch 'Spring 2010'

Quote:
Square Enix will release much-anticipated Final Fantasy XIII in Japan on December 17 for PlayStation 3, the publisher confirmed today, with a Western window targeting Spring 2010. Including tax, the game will be priced at ¥9240 ($100), one of the higher prices thus far charged for a console game release, even one as long-awaited as FFXIII, the thirteenth main installment in the publisher's seminal RPG franchise.
Japan usually pays higher prices anyway, but $100 is still a lot. However based on that, I'm guessing it'll be $59.99 when it comes out here.

Well now, being that the game isn't the Wii, I'd say the chance of getting the game when it is released here in the States will be slightly higher, but since its Final Fantasy... well its still going to be hard to find at first I bet.

On a different note, can someone clear up something quick for me? As I understand it, the 360 version is going to be released later on AFTER the PS3 version in North America / Europe, correct? ...or is it both systems at once?

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Oh okay cool, I thought the porting process would make the 360 version come out later (making the US PS3 edition sort of a 'timed exclusive') but if its only a couple days apart well that's not much of a wait.

I'm gonna have to be careful about avoiding spoilers come December though.

That's uh... well on the one hand I want to say the cover looks bland and 'empty', but on the other-side of things, I like its simplicity: Main character & title of game (FFX did the same thing but at least it had some sort of a background). I feel conflicted about this more then I should actually.

I was speaking idiomatically.
