With regards to the cat and the MIKURU BEAM:

Just to clarify it a little there:
Spoiler:
this is when Mikuru first uses her MIKURU BEAM, not later when you see the crappy special effects. If you remember her first confrontation with Yuki, Mikuru fires the beam but there is a sudden reaction from Kyon, as if he was hit, and the camera blacks out for a second. Then the scene shows Yuki pounce on Mikuru as if she wanted to beat her senseless. It is said somewhere that perhaps Mikuru actually fired a MIKURU BEAM because Haruhi expected her to in the movie. LOL!!

The cat is a stray which Haruhi found and made Kyon adopt, giving it the name "Shamisen". It lives with Kyon and is the playmate of Kyon's little sister who affectionately nicknamed him "Shami". During the filming, he suddenly started talking during an exchange between Yuki and Mikuru, most probably because Haruhi unconsiously wanted him to (though for what reason I'm not too sure since a talking cat wouldn't make much sense right there and then, unless Haruhi thought a witch had to have a talking cat?). You could hear Itsuki in the background telling the cat to stop talking.

This anime series was a great surprise for me. Like many others, I only managed to start seeing the show after the last episode had aired, so was able to watch them all in a short period of time. The order in which they were released was confusing at first, but I just shrugged and watched them as I downloaded them and thought how really cool the show was. Kyon made me laugh the most, since it's usually him who needs to face the eccenticities and absurdities that come in form of Haruhi and her brainstorming.

Oh yes, the Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu entry at wikipedia is an awesome source of material on everything Haruhi. It has the episode guide and a trivia link as well which explains some points not obvious in the series but mentioned in the novels, such as when Haruhi asks Kyon if they've met before in episode 2:
Spoiler:
.....they had, in the novels. Not sure of the details myself but apparently Kyon has timetravelled to 3 years prior to starting High School to meet with Haruhi. He used the false name John Smith.

Something else to think about.....
Spoiler:
Quote:
From SOSdan wiki:
There are two date-related lines in episode 2; "In the process, we reached the first day after Golden Week." and "So that makes today Wednesday." Considering "the first day after Golden Week" is May 6th that is Wednesday, the year of the story is estimated as 2009, thus "Three years before" is 2006. The anime The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya became a big boom in 2006, and we actually saw the "information flare" caused by Haruhi Suzumiya on the net (like this page or Youtube, for example).

Just wondering if anyone is following the novel translations? (I know Saka and Acer are). So far the stories have been truly memorable, and occassionally hilarious as well. Most of the stories are covered one way or another in the anime, but some of them clearly explain details you never thought about before but knew were there. Other volumes are great too.

I'm dying to get through volume 4 but they're still in the process of translating the story (chapter 3 is still only 96% done, and there are still another 3 chapters to go!) This has got to be the best story so far, "The Disappearence of Haruhi Suzumiya".

Any thoughts?

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Since you mentioned something is happening on Dec 22nd (as per the english website), I'd think you were right. After all, according to the novels, from Dec 18th....
Spoiler:
....everything was fixed and back to normal 3 days later, thanks to Kyon, Mikuru and Yuki's intervention.

Volume 4 of the novels was pretty good, and the event of December 18 is taken directly from this volume. Volume 5 was also good and I hope volume 6 will be finished soon. I just started reading the first few bits of volume 7 and volume 8 as well. Good thing the novels (like the anime) are not really in any chronological order so reading different bits doesn't spoil anything.

Well, I remember reading in Wikipedia (or the SOSdan wiki) that when episode 8 "Mysterique Sign" was aired, the Japanese website changed to mimic what happened in that episode.
Spoiler:
.....the SOSdan insignia Haruhi made and Kyon added to the website became all fuzzy looking in the episode, and on the actual website too. Only afterwards did it change back. I read that looking at or changing the code causes the message "data corrected by Nagato Yuki" to appear somewhere on that page as well.

There is still speculation that a second season is coming. Whether it's true or not, the SOS Brigade website going down on Dec 18 looks really fishy. Afterall....
Spoiler:
.....there wouldn't be a website if there wasn't an SOSdan in the first place.

For those of you not in the know, please read volume 4 of the novels found here.

EDIT: Oh wait, I just realized that "3 days after December 18th" would actually be Decemeber 21st!!

That's pretty nifty. So they have been going along with what the novel's been getting up to, by handing out these nifty hints via the website and such? Cool way to keep people interested!

By the way...
Spoiler:
.....what did you press to get through the escape program? I just pressed <enter> but nothing happened. It says to choose another key but everything else doesn't work either.....what are you supposed to use?

That was so cool! Totally awesome, I am so impressed that they took the time to make a full dance version of the ending. All the extra dance steps and song just blew me away. I just love it.

Hope the 2nd season is really coming. And coming soon!

What's up with the ASOS Brigade site? There's something about an invasion hidden in the middle of the page on the right-hand side (you need to press CTRL-A to see a few hidden messages as well). Before, the message mentioned waiting 111 days, then a few days later changed to 11 days and now it reads 1 day. What's gonna happen?

ASOS Brigade

EDIT: It's happening today, whatever it is...... looks like there'll be another video or something too......

Talking

That's fucking awesome! Thanks for the link, Kairi. It's gonna be a great time when this airs, coz already it looks like it'll be great!! The newspaper article alone has me going all giddy:

Supposedly, that is....
Spoiler:
.....3 years previous to the setting of season 1. Kyon hears from Kunikida that there was an incident while Haruhi was still in Junior High, where she made some strange symbols on the field as a message to aliens. Actually it was revealed in the light novels that.......

(close this spoiler if you don't want to be spoiled!!)

..........it was revealed that someone helped her make the symbols (or she stood on the side and made that someone do all the work). Yup, that guy helping her is Kyon, who time travelled with Mikuru Asahina 3 years into their past.

Heh, I really want to see this story animated!!

And this image made me LOL:

Konata ecstatic that Haruhi has a season two (and maybe Aya Hirano too as she is able to reprise the role that made her a household name)!!

I can't wait!

I'm kind'a confused about the date on the newspaper though....
Spoiler:
...isn't that date supposed to be 2006 instead of 2007? I read somewhere that due to something Kyon says in the anime (some comment about Haruhi's hairstyle after Goldenweek and it being a certain day) it was established that the anime takes place in 2009 - so the "event" which happened 3 years before was supposed to have happened in 2006, right? Or am I totally confusing this with something else?

Hey, just saw this message under Nagato Yuki's profile page on the SOS Dan website. Anybody know what it means?

http://www.haruhi.tv/02order/5.html

Something to do with the 4th novel as well?

Has anyone heard anything new about Haruhi2? Was hoping there would be more news but no one seems to know anything. Doesn't seem to be any mentions in the mags or whatever.

By the way, anyone seen the Haruhi related comics over on the SOS wiki?

Caught this a while ago, unfortunately the links mentioned in the article are no longer working. At least it's noted in detail what was shown in regards to December 18th.

Does that say that season 2 is cancelled? Seems to mention another season though as well...

Pretty much what we know already, the new series will focus on Tanabata and the events of the 4th novel.

Check out the details of what happened on Dec 18th on the Darkmirage website. Be warned that if you haven't read volume 4 you're gonna get spoiled!!

Off topic, another Haruhi strip. Can someone explain to me this thing Yuki has going for Kyon? Kind'a weird....

Or is it simply another case of Yuki innocently copying an interaction between Kyon and Mikuru?

Right, gotcha! Thanks for pointing that out! (wonder why I didn't catch that bit in that description.....?). It makes sense now that they will change the title in reference to the 4th novel, though I had always assumed it would remain as ...Yuutsu since I always thought that would be more well known...

Now if only we knew for sure when the new season will start.....

Regarding Nagato and Kyon, their interaction in these comics are hilarious no matter what they're upto...

She wore glasses in the beginning of the series....
Spoiler:
....up until she fights and defeats Ryoko Asakura. When she returns the classroom and it's surrounding space back to normal she finds that she has forgotten to recreate her glasses. She goes without glasses for the rest of the series, supposedly due to Kyon's recommendation.

She has glasses above because.....
Spoiler:
....in the changed world Kyon wakes upto (the premise for the new season of the anime) she is just a normal highschool girl (albeit a shy bookworm) who supposedly never lost her glasses and was never a part of the data integrated (aliens) whatever. This is the version of Nagato depicted in the above photo.

Sorry if the explanation was unnecessary, wasn't sure how much you did or didn't know from your question...

But so far it rocks!

Downloading a.f.k.'s episode 2 right now, can't wait to see it!!!

Get it here:

a.f.k.'s Episode 2 - Suzumiya Haruhi Season 2

Always wanted to see how "Endless Eight" translates to anime. I wonder if we'll see the frog suit?

EDIT:

Well, not bad. It did turn out a little differently from what I remember when reading the light novel chapter...

Warning: differences in anime and light novel ahead. And probably spoilers to next week's episode too....
Spoiler:
...before Haruhi calls him the first time, Kyon actually was about to reach out and pull his cell phone towards him. He then wonders if a) someone installed cameras in his house and were watching him, and b) if he was suddenly psychic.

They skipped the riding the bicycle parts. I guess it wasn't really necessary to keep them, but I would've liked to have seen Kyon silently complain about how Koizumi gets to leisurely carry Mikuru while he has to slave to transport Haruhi and Yuki (though he suspects Yuki has probably somehow turned her full body weight to zero to help him). And with his luck he had to carry Haruhi and Yuki both to and from the pool.

They actually manage to get through the whole 2 weeks without any problems! In the novel they only get half-way before something happens and they (everyone except Haruhi) realize that something's seriously messed up. In the anime, it looks like we'll only see that event in next week's episode.

All throughout the activities, both Kyon and Koizumi get weird bouts of deja vu, or just strange feelings that something is amiss, but the thought disappears as quickly as it comes. Also, Kyon gets the feeling that Yuki is not acting like herself, or that she displays looks that only he notices.

No biggie really.

One thing I miss from the first season is the next episode previews. I guess they're not needed any more since there's no differing episode order, but Kyon's correcting Haruhi and hearing other characters talk was just plain funny.

And a.f.k.'s subs still rock!

Next episode:

Kyon: 15,498?!

heh, I can't wait...

Yeah, I was kinda' thinking that as well....but then I started wondering how they would fit all that other stuff into just one more episode? Unless Endless Eight is actually a 3-parter?! Or maybe I'm just thinking too much and expecting a lot of crazy stuff getting packed in there...

Well, guess we gotta wait and see.

Holy....

Well, now I guess everything in Endless Eight could end up being much better, now that I know that they're giving more air-time to it. I'm actually looking forward to it quite a bit now...

Just wondering, us novel readers know what's going on so we just took the first episode of Endless Eight in stride. But for those who haven't read the novels, like Sakabadger (where is Saka anyway?), I wonder what they thought of that episode....

Could they have found it incredibly boring?

Kairi, we sell the First novel in my bookstore as well apparently. Didin't realize at first because as you said, the cover was freakin' red. And yes, we keep it in the young adult section of the store (next to Twilight and all them shit). Looks like the higher-ups consider light novels as kiddy fare? I hadn't looked through the book yet, but if the translation is as good as you say, I may take a good look and consider getting a copy myself.

Nice. I gotta hand it to them, they went about this pretty well. Should've known they would try to present the events in a way that the novel couldn't. I can't wait to see the next episode now.

But...
Spoiler:
....they mention that the loop has occured 15,498 times already, so shouldn't this have been the last time? Or am I mistaken and in this episode it was a number less than 15,498? Maybe I gotta go have another watch....
