I wasn't really introduced to anime until I was a sophomore in high school. However, a notable series that I remember enjoying was:
Record of the Lodoss War (OVA) The story was pretty solid fantasy and everything about it hit the run-of-the-mill RPG cliches, leaving me hooked after the first episode. The action scenes were also memorable ranging from the party taking on a dragon and watching the duel of the kings. My only gripe about it back then was that the animators took a lot of shortcuts. Instead of having a dragon flapping his wings across the screen, it was more like sliding the dragon. Goes to show just how far animation has gone since the early 90s. Jam it back in, in the dark.
