I think that this is a little harsh. As a former shy person who has made a full recovery, I can tell you for certain, the majority of these people do no wish to be the way they are, and would give anything to be able to relate normally to other people. Yes, they do lack self confidence, but condemning them as having severe character flaws really isn't fair in my opinion, and it certainly doesn't help them overcome their problems.
